October 14, 201213 yr Eh I love this time of year on the forums. It's just after all the typical bandwagoners with extremely stupid theories and comments leave for good.
October 14, 201213 yr I say that about Reyes, when he play for the mets everyone on here say bad things about him and he could never touch Hanley, the team sign him and you would never believe it was the same guy from the posts.
October 14, 201213 yr Please explain. As I said referring to you, or, rather, to state it more plainly, as you said, "It's just after all the typical bandwagoners with extremely stupid theories and comments leave for good." I continue to agree.

I don't think people were saying that he was a bad player. People were saying he wasn't as good as Hanley. But that was true at the time. Hanley had the best OPS of any SS from 2006-2010 while Reyes was 4th. Over the last two years, Hanley was 11th and Reyes was 3rd. More has changed than just what uniform they wear.

Reyes was one the most hated players on this board. The hate was ridiculous. Now he's a Marlin -- with an overpaid contract -- and the board adores him. Most fans root for uniforms, not the people in the uniforms.

October 14, 201213 yr That happens with ever team, not just the marlins. Favre to the Vikings? Chad Pennington to the Dolphins? Jason Taylor to the Jets and then ack to Miami? Johnny Damon to the Yankees? We hate the player when he's our rival, but the moment he joins our team, all is forgiven.

Most fans root for uniforms, not the people in the uniforms. Those are two different issues. One is basically calling people hypocrites for acting like his play is different because he's a Marlin instead of a Met. I disagree with that assertion. Most of the hate for Reyes spurred from "the media" acting as if he was the best shortstop while most of us believe our shortstop was obviously the better shortstop but that "the media" was just being biased. It wasn't that he was a bad player. The other is saying that the way Marlins fans treat him is different now that he plays for us instead of arguably our most hated rivals. Of course that's true and as it should be.
October 15, 201213 yr Wow, they spared no expense in matching realism, even down to the number of empty seats there'll be in the park next season.

I didn't like the Jets, but I respected him a lot as a player.
October 21, 201213 yr I really hate to be this guy, but with rumors swirling that the Marlins are going to cut payroll for 2013 I am considering renouncing my fanhood for this team. I have been a fan all of my life, but I am losing patience with the way this organization is run. Loria is incompetent and incapable of properly running a Major League Baseball franchise. Manager after manager comes through the door, and all the while the man who is most responsible for the Marlins failures in the last 9 years gets to keep his job (Beinfest). Unbelievable. He calls Freddi Gonzalez a "colossal failure" even though he managed winning teams with scant payrolls. And now they're talking about reducing payroll to between $70-80 million because they've "lost money". If that is the case, this team is doomed for more failure in 2013 and beyond. They've already got $65.5 M committed to 8 players and likely around $10 M for the rest of the guys. That leaves them with $5 M , at most, to fill a number of holes. This team looks to be in bad shape for a number of years and frankly, I don't know if I want to put my disposable income and time into a team that is run by a bunch of buffoons. I am going to let the offseason play out and see what happens, but if Ozzie is replaced by a guy like Bo Porter or Mike Lowell, Beinfest retains his job, Heath Bell stays on the team, and payroll is cut ... I am likely done with this team. Puma you have been on here even longer than I have been and I hope the team cuts payroll next year. The product we had this year just plain sucked! I can't wait for the minute Ozzie Guillen is gone! This team had no fight from the get go...The few players I would keep include Brantly and Solano, also I am not ready to give up on LoMo (The centerpiece of this lineup of course would be Stanton) There are quite a few young arms that are able to move this team forward. The price for getting more young bats and a few more young starter would be Reyes, Zambrano and Buehrle...maybe even JJ. I amwilling to go throgh it one more time but this time to build a team I can love for a long, long time, not to save Loria's coins...I miss Edwin he had fire and the team played for him in that manner...If not Edwin than someone who will guide a young team and be able to teach it how to win... I like someone like Dave Lopes, Mike Lowell doesn't want to manage but he would have been perfect...Why not Joe Espada???
November 14, 201213 yr Author So remember what I was saying about the Marlins ownership making it hard to remain a Marlins fan?
