Admin....what's your opinion of a "fair deal" in dollars and number of years-wise?

Why are you asking when you already know the answer?

How would I know the answer? Admin may have written a figure earlier or declined to offer a figure..but whatever his opinion was...it can change with time and place. Admin answered, and for now he's sticking with "fair".

.

If you want to express YOUR opinion in numbers go ahead, for a hypothetical 5, 6, 10 year contract. And don't say the Marlins don't do 10 years. It's a hypothetical. Let's assume they do what you may think is crazy and offer 10 years. How much is fair?

The point is that everyone knows 10/200 is the figure. We just have to pray that Stanton accepts it...

No way in hell he signs any contract here. Why would he? Loria cant be trusted, The team may or may not be winning in 4 years, who is to say he wont be dealt to a club he doesnt want to go to, if he does sign a long term contract? I wish it was different.

I'd say the fact he's going to get traded is more of a reason to sign.

I would always take the guaranteed money. If the team feels like trading me later on, trade me. Win-win for both parties involved.

Because it's 80 million dollars.

The team didn't exactly suck in 2005 after we signed Delgado (wasn't great, but some strides there), and everyone was gone after that year. Can't assume if the team was even remotely good (just over .500) that we would have kept them.

500% chance it won't happen, but I wouldn't be surprised.

google YOLO

Post of the year.

F*uck it, post of the decade.

IMO, if the Marlins offer Stanton a fair deal, with a ton of money guaranteed, he will sign. Winning is important, but financial security for the rest of your life comes out on top.

That plunk to the head from Hernandez might work out to our favor... That is how close he came to losing everything. One pitch. Im sure he has been/will be thinking about that for a while.

Of all the players we've seen leave, all for various reasons, this is the guy you absolutely can't let leave. Do whatever it takes.

20/10,000,000,000

And let him be governor of Florida.

I think if a reasonable contract is presented he'd sign it .... I think his long term future is in doubt though ... sounds like Loria is getting the last year on the cheap and not loading any contract restraints into a potential trade .... after this season he'll start to get a little more expensive

As a player if you are under club control, you're under club control ... not much you can do .... so do you sacrifice a year or two of free agency and the uncertainty of the arbitration process to get a guaranteed dollar amount and the long term financial security? I would.

In fact, I'd be upset that I wasn't getting a raise going into this year.

He's a young guy. The whole play for a winner or grabbing max dollars at this point in time doesn't really resonate as much. This isn't a lifetime contract and he's already under club control. If the marlins offered a good 5 year deal next offseason, he would still be a free agent in his prime and in position to sign one of those crazy 10 year contracts that will guarantee him getting paid until he's almost 40. If the marlins aren't winning by 2018 there is a good chance he'd get moved at that point as it is to a contender

How much of a contender do the Marlins have to be in 2-3 years for you guys to think Loria might consider keeping him?

Like if this young group blossoms relatively quickly, lets say theyre close enough in 2016, and Stanton is still here after '15, do you think Loria is automatically pushing him out or do u see Loria at least making a push to keep him.

well if he is still here after 2015 under this contract going into 2016 then the question goes beyond if loria wants him .... that dynamic is a lot different .... at that point he's a year away from free agency .... if he makes it through the season he has a full option of paydays to choose from .... if he wanted to stay with marlins how long would he do it for? .... would you trust loria enough to sign a 5 year deal going into 2016? .... I'm not sure I would - I definitely wouldn't do it without some sort of no trade clause

with the contract structure today Loria has the leverage ..... the opposite side of that coin is that by the start of the 2016 season the leverage would start to move towards Stanton and I'm not sure how happy he'd be at that point playing out his entire low value years and then going through the arbitration process
