Michael
Netherlands moving on. Winner of Japan vs Cuba tomorrow morning will face them, loser will face Taipei.
nico1270
WBC may need to review some of the rules. Korea was winning the game 3-2 and needed to score like six more runs. As they were the home, they could not bat in the ninth. Top of the ninth: I thought they might walk all Taiwan batters to tie the game. And then try for six in the ninth, but they did not. Korea pitched well and finished the game winning but losing.
Michael
It's based off runs? That doesn't make sense. I figured Netherlands would move on because they won their game yesterday and beat Korea in game one. Hmm.
nico1270
Here's what WIkipedia says: In Round 1, ties shall be broken in the following order of priority: The winner of head-to-head games between the tied teams; The team with the highest Team's Quality Balance (TQB=(RS/IPO)–(RA/IPD)) in head-to-head games between the tied teams; The team with the highest Earned Runs Team's Quality Balance (ER–TQB=(ERS/IPO)–(ERA/IPD)) in head-to-head games between the tied teams; The team with the highest batting average (AVG) in head-to-head games between the tied teams; Drawing of lots, conducted by WBCI. So, they all finished with a 2-1 record Taiwan finished with a 0.235 TQB Netherlands 0.000 Korea -0.
Michael
Hmm. Interesting. Alright then.
nico1270
May be modifying a rule, that lets the home team bat in the bottom of the ninth is enough.
Anonymous
There were DOZENS of fans at the Cuba v China game last night. Consider this a preview for the Marlins 2013 season. Too many fans. At least the stadium will look good when it's empty.

Rabbethan
I always thought Cubans supported their baseball team There seems to be a split there. Some Cubans support the Cuban team because, well, they're Cubans. Other Cubans despise the Cuban team because they see it as Fidel's team. That's probably one of the reasons the Cuban teams haven't been scheduled to play in Miami despite all the Cubans here; a lot of people would protest. Michael
Well, Cuba beat Japan, so, yeah. Round two from overseas is as follows at the Tokyo Dome: Game 1: Netherlands vs Cuba Game 2: Japan vs Chinese Taipei Game 3: Game 1 Loser vs Game 2 Loser [i'll say Netherlands (0-1) and Taipei (0-1)] Game 4: Game 1 Winner vs Game 2 Winner [Cuba (1-0) vs Japan (1-0) again oh my!] Game 5: Game 3 Winner vs Game 4 Loser [i'll predict Taipei (1-1) vs Cuba (1-1) this time] Game 6: Game 5 Winner vs Game 4 Winner [Japan (2-0) vs Cuba (2-1) for the third time, Japan taking this one in extra innings, I'll say 11th] So, basically ... Japan 3-0* Cuba 2-2 Taipei 1-2 Netherlands 0-2 *Advances Round 1 Puerto Rico, Round Robin: Venezuela vs Dominican Republic (Thursday March 7, 6:30 pm) Spain vs Puerto Rico (Friday March 8, 5:30 PM) Dominican Republic vs Spain (Saturday March 9, 11 AM) Puerto Rico vs Venezuela (Saturday March 9, 5:30 PM) Spain vs Venezuela (Sunday March 10, 12:30 PM) Dominican Republic vs Puerto Rico (Sunday March 10, 7:30 PM) I see Spain getting swept, and any two of the other three can move on - this is going to be, arguably, the most exciting round. I predict DR and Venezuela advance. Round 1 Arizona, Round Robin: Italy vs Mexico^ (Thursday March 7, 3:00 PM) Canada vs Italy^ (Friday March 8, 2:30 PM) Mexico vs United States (Friday March 8, 9:00 PM) Canada vs Mexico (Saturday March 9, 2:30 PM) United States vs Italy (Saturday March 9, 9:00 PM) United States vs Canada (Sunday March 10, 4:00 PM) ^Salt River Fields at Talking Stick I say USA and Mexico advance here, Italy gets swept, USA does some sweeping.
