If not, what would be a reasonable trade for Trout? Imagine Trout and Stanton in the same outfield. Omg.

Yes. I always lean toward the position player though. With pitchers likelihood of blowing their arms out.

Yes.

Still not a reasonable trade. Not that there is one.

LOL. The Angels would never do that. If they would, then of course you do it in a heartbeat.

Maybe not today because Fernandez is a year behind Trout in establishing his career. But a year from now, if they both continued down their current career paths, that would be a very difficult decision for both clubs. If the Angels were in a bad way with their rotation and had the offense to spare, and the Marlins had a terrible offense and plenty of pitching depth... Hypothetically it would make sense. But neither club will probably part with either star. Trout is likely to see a huge contract this off-season buying out arb and free agent years... And hopefully Fernandez won't be far behind.

No. Wrong. Not even then.

Trout had one of the greatest seasons of all-time as a 20 year old, 10-11 WAR. And he's on pace for 9-10 WAR again. Definitely not a fluke. Fernandez has been awesome, yet is still on pace for 3.5-5.0 WAR, compared to twice that for Trout. It's not close. It doesn't matter how much pitching or offense either team does or doesn't have. No.

people on this board overvaluing Marlins players?

Honestly, it would be hard to pass up trout, but we have so many young outfielders that it would be impossible for me to say we need another outfielder more than we need pitching. If we were talking 2B, C, or maybe 1B talent that may be different.

Trade Stanton and maybe Ozuna/Turner or Eovaldi? Sure

Mike Trout is a Ken Griffey Jr from the early 90s style of player. Those kind of hitters/fielders don't come around every day. I'd trade Fernandez for Trout in a millisecond.

Will the Angels be able to lock up Trout? Seems like they are in a bad position thanks to those stupid contracts.

There isn't a salary cap to stop them...it just depends on how much the owner is willing to pay...which judging on recent history. ..will be a ridiculous amount

I would probably trade Fernandez for Trout, but I wouldn't feel any happier. Fernandez will be a great player.

We'd probably have to give up Fernandez + Yelich, and even then it's probably not enough.

Why is this a thread?

is that a yes?

Trout is like the next Griffey.

Fernandez is like the next King Felix.

How in the world am I over valuing Jose? He's a 20 year old ace. How many of those come along each decade? Quarter century, even?

Little early to put Jose's name with King Felix.

Not really... He just dominated the All-Star game against the best hitters in baseball, literally. At 20.

It was their first time facing him and he's pitched a half of big league season. He's not in Felix's league yet. Could he be that good longterm? Of course but IMO it's too early to say it.

It was also his first time facing the two best hitters in baseball right now and a former MVP... It works both ways.

Mike Trout is the most valuable player in baseball.

Pitchers have the advantage the first time facing someone I believe.

Mike Trout is the most valuable player in baseball.

I agree, and I'm not making the argument that this deal is even a little realistic.

Remember, I did say a year from now, if Fernandez kept up exactly what he's doing... Only then would this be an interesting question.
