June 2, 201412 yr Author Realmuto isn't starting tonight. I don't understand why they would bring him up if he wasn't going to start. They could have just brought up Brantly to back up Mathis.
June 2, 201412 yr Sucks. I like when they start a call-up right away. course you don't want to break up that great Mathis wolf pair
June 2, 201412 yr If you're going to use a guy as a backup, you don't call up a prospect. This front office just doesn't know how to baseball.
June 2, 201412 yr Yeah, Brantly should've just been called up if they were looking for someone to ride the pine.
June 3, 201412 yr Not in the lineup again today. This is just a joke! god marlins fans are obnoxious. Why is it a joke? he isn't a huge prospect where we are worried about service time right now he was just the best choice for a week rather than the awful skipworth or Brantly. I understand the marlins front office doesnt exactly endear themselves to fans trust but stop acting like they are completely incompetent and have no idea what they are doing and act like you could do a significantly better job or know more than them.

June 3, 201412 yr After pretty much every move this front office makes....their competence comes more into question. To people on a message board. Yet they have an incredibly small payroll and are a game over .500 in june so they must know something.

First of all it has nothing to do with service time. It has to do with playing time. Realmuto was finally having an offensive break out season. Why bring him up to sit? Brantly, and Skipworth could just as easily sit on the bench. Second of all, he might not be a Heaney level prospect but he is a very good prospect. He was a high school shortstop and has made a smooth transition to catcher. So much so that he is now considered a very good defensive catcher. That's probably why his bat has taken a little longer to develop. You know what's obnoxious ? Not knowing anything about our farm system or prospects and pretending you do. Obnoxious? How about giving the FO a free pass because they got a couple moves right? Yes, they deserve some credit because we are over .500 but they sure do get a lot more wrong than they do right. Remember this is pretty much the same group (FO) that has put together three consecutive last place teams in a row including a 100 loss season. Give them all of the benefit of the doubt that you want, but I for one won't.

He is not up here for long Salty is out for maybe a week or 2 at most and in this time he is going to get playing time so chill out its been 3 games. They get more wrong than right according to you, a guy on a message board. No team gets everything right but to act like this management is incompetent is stupid. Cheap, yes, but they are most certainly not incompetent and know a hell of a lot more than the people on this message board. They have said they want to contend and they think having him as the backup for the next week or so rather than swing and a miss Skipworth or the all around awful Brantly will help more. He is still going to get playing time so stop acting like they are just giving him 2 weeks off. Nobody is giving the front office a free pass, its just incredibly annoying that people on a fucking message board consistently act like pompous pricks and act like they know everything or at least more than people who get paid to run the team. Im not a marlins front office apologist, I'm just sick of people acting like they know more than these guys or have more information than them.

Im not a marlins front office apologist, I'm just sick of people acting like they know more than these guys or have more information than them. You contradict yourself. If they are just calling up a player to sit, what does it matter if its "swing and miss Skipworth" or the "all around awful Brantly"? Instead they take a kid who looks like he has been putting it together with the bat and take it completely out of his hands for no reason at all. Realmuto should have been given every single flipping inning while he has been up if for no other reason than to not stagnate his bat. And lest we not forgot, Jeff Mathis is one of the worst hitters in Major League history, so its not like its imperative that his bat be in the lineup.
June 4, 201412 yr Some of you are overrating Realmuto quite a bit. He's about as mediocre as Rob Brantly.
June 4, 201412 yr I think that is a pretty big exaggeration. He's not the next great starting catcher, but the season he's been having at AA at his age is incredibly promising and he is quite obviously the best catching prospect in our system. The bigger issue here is that Brantly should've been the guy who got called up if they were only looking to start somebody once or twice before Salty is healthy, let Realmuto get a few starts at AAA and Barnes at AA before putting everything back where they were when Salty is healthy again. Starting Realmuto's clock so he could ride the pine is pointless, and the week without playing could potentially stunt the growth he's shown at AA this year (however unlikely that seems). If anything it was just a pointless move.

I just said don't complain that he's not starting everyday. He isn't ready for the majors yet but he is the best option out of our catchers right now. They have said they want to contend and he is the best option out of our catchers. He will catch a few games in his time up here and go back down. I understand we all like to complain about anything the front office does but this time it is incredibly pointless and you guys are complaining for the sake of complaining.

If anything it was just a pointless move. Stop with his clock nonsense he won't even be up until next year at the earliest and probably not even till the end of next year so his clock really is not an issue at this point. If they are calling him up towards the end of next year after the end of this year at AA and then next year at AAA until september then it won't matter. If they were planning on calling him up in the middle of next year, which is unlikely, then it would have been a problem but they are most likely going to want to bring him up towards the end of next year for good in which case it won't matter. Brantly should not have been the one brought up because he can't field or hit. Brantly should never be the one brought up unless he significantly improves.
June 4, 201412 yr It's a week. Who gives a crap if he can hit or field. They brought Realmuto up to be a seat filler until Salty is healthy. It's a waste of time. Especially since he actually has a future with the team and needs to continue his progress at AA or AAA.
June 4, 201412 yr The team is still trying to win games this year and Jeff Mathis, as awful as he is as a hitter, calls a good game and is a good defensive catcher. Realmuto is not a stud prospect. He had an .OPS under .700 the two years before this one, and he's repeating a level this year. It's nice that he's doing well, but lets not get ahead of ourselves. Also, Realmuto will get some playing time. He's expected to start on Thursday. I'm glad they didn't call Rob Brantly up because Rob Brantly is terrible and has an annoying face.

June 4, 201412 yr To people on a message board. Yet they have an incredibly small payroll and are a game over .500 in june so they must know something. This front office has signed Carlos Marmol, Henry Rodriguez, and Kevin Gregg.... I'm sorry but there is a reason that these guys are free agents (because 29 other front offices know they are pitiful).
