Realmuto isn't starting tonight. I don't understand why they would bring him up if he wasn't going to start. They could have just brought up Brantly to back up Mathis.

First of all it has nothing to do with service time. It has to do with playing time. Realmuto was finally having an offensive break out season. Why bring him up to sit? Brantly, and Skipworth could just as easily sit on the bench. Second of all, he might not be a Heaney level prospect but he is a very good prospect. He was a high school shortstop and has made a smooth transition to catcher. So much so that he is now considered a very good defensive catcher. That's probably why his bat has taken a little longer to develop.

Some of you are overrating Realmuto quite a bit. He's about as mediocre as Rob Brantly.

I never said they are calling him up to sit. I just said don't complain that he's not starting everyday. He isn't ready for the majors yet but he is the best option out of our catchers right now. They have said they want to contend and he is the best option out of our catchers. He will catch a few games in his time up here and go back down.

Stop with his clock nonsense he won't even be up until next year at the earliest and probably not even till the end of next year so his clock really is not an issue at this point. If they are calling him up towards the end of next year after the end of this year at AA and then next year at AAA until september then it won't matter. If they were planning on calling him up in the middle of next year, which is unlikely, then it would have been a problem but they are most likely going to want to bring him up towards the end of next year for good in which case it won't matter.

 

Brantly should not have been the one brought up because he can't field or hit. Brantly should never be the one brought up unless he significantly improves.

It's a week. Who gives a crap if he can hit or field. They brought Realmuto up to be a seat filler until Salty is healthy. It's a waste of time. Especially since he actually has a future with the team and needs to continue his progress at AA or AAA.

The team is still trying to win games this year and Jeff Mathis, as awful as he is as a hitter, calls a good game and is a good defensive catcher. Realmuto is not a stud prospect. He had an .OPS under .700 the two years before this one, and he's repeating a level this year. It's nice that he's doing well, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

 

Also, Realmuto will get some playing time. He's expected to start on Thursday. I'm glad they didn't call Rob Brantly up because Rob Brantly is terrible and has an annoying face.
