June 1, 201412 yr What's up with his tweet? Did I miss something or did he get called up? Jacob Realmuto @JTRealmuto · 39m Got to call my family today and tell them that my childhood dreams were coming true.. Never felt so blessed! Thank you all for the support!!
June 1, 201412 yr I'm guessing it'll be Salty to the "DL" with an "ankle injury" or something like that. I can't imagine we'd carry three catchers.
June 1, 201412 yr If he got called up...Wow. He truly went from an almost forgotten prospect to the majors FAST. Really shouldn't be in the majors until 2016, but sometimes injury speed up stuff, and I'm pretty sure they'd rather give Realmuto the shot than bring Skipworth up again.
June 1, 201412 yr The good news with that also is that Barnes would get to move up to AA. He's been doing nothing but hit at A+ ball just like he's hit every stop of the minors. At 24 years old he needed to see AA ASAP (and to be fair he already got to AA last year, and posted an .930 OPS before getting sent back down).
June 1, 201412 yr Yeah, Skipworthless should just be organizational filler at this point. He has yet to do anything impressive since he started getting paid to play baseball.
June 1, 201412 yr I don't think Saltalamacchia is hurt but I could be wrong. Just don something about this damn bullpen.
June 1, 201412 yr Burke Badenhop's killing it in Boston this year. the Marlins need a couple of guys like that and it's a shame that Leo Nunez died in that horrific octopus accident, but Juan Carlos Oviedo is doing spectacular in Tampa. just throwing names out there
June 1, 201412 yr Maybe Salty actually is hurt. Since May 6th, he's 8 for 57. 140/246/281/527. Not his usual self. Since his 4-hit game 2 weeks ago, he's 4-31. His recent throws on runners were first mostly way off to the 1B side, then way off to the 3B side. He's lucky more of them didn't wind up in CF. He's thrown out almost nobody recently, 7 of 42 overall. He threw it into RF on a bunt on Saturday. 8 errors to date. So, who knows? Maybe a pulled lat or something else he really didn't want to mention? You play with a minor problem and it screws up your hitting and throwing and never gets better because you're playing and aggravating it almost every day. It's possible, and in view of his May numbers perhaps even likely. Wouldn't even be surprising considering that Fernandez is out and Capps is down for at least a month and he considers game-calling to be important and an injury doesn't affect that and he doesn't want to add another side-lining injury to the pile. We'll know soon enough.
June 1, 201412 yr we've known for hours now. Realmuto's coming up. he would not have made a tweet like that otherwise. Salty's definitely injured.
June 1, 201412 yr Ah, yes, it was obvious Realmuto's coming up. The question was is Salty really injured as some around here seem to think that injuries are routinely faked.
June 1, 201412 yr Joe Frisaro @JoeFrisaro #Marlins Jarrod Saltalamacchia placed on 7-day concussion DL; J.T. Realmuto (#60) recalled from Jax.
June 1, 201412 yr A little too soon but he's obviously the best choice. Hopefully he continues to hit and Salty is only gone for 7 days.
June 1, 201412 yr A little too soon but he's obviously the best choice. Hopefully he continues to hit and Salty is only gone for 7 days. A little too soon? He's 23 and been in our system since 2010. I think that's enough time.
June 1, 201412 yr A little too soon? He's 23 and been in our system since 2010. I think that's enough time. It's not about age. People develop differently. He's having a good 1/3 season in AA but hasn't been consistent since he's been in the org. Let's hope it's a positive week for him. I think catching depth is actually solid on the farm right now though. Wallach, Barnes, Realmuto, Brantly. Backups out the ass.
June 1, 201412 yr Seriously, don't count Wallach yet. Anybody can hit in Greensboro. Lol, I said he profiles as a backup. He was a college fourth round pick. He can be in the mix.
June 1, 201412 yr He was already on the 40 man so its not really a stretch to to promote him, he's been hitting fairly well as of late too. Of course there was last years opening day catcher Brantly in AAA, so he truly doesn't appear to part of any long term plans.
June 1, 201412 yr Author Seriously, don't count Wallach yet. Anybody can hit in Greensboro. I don't know about that. I know that we have a bunch of prospects hitting the ball well down there but we also have some pitchers in Greensboro putting up some nice stats as well. That means that the ballpark isn't effecting our pitchers so why would it effect the other teams pitchers? I know all about the PCL being a hitters league as it has been well documented but I had never heard that before about the Sally league or our park at Greensboro. Is this something that you read about or just a theory based on our hitters overall performance?

Is this something that you read about or just a theory based on our hitters overall performance? Just a theory. You get exceptions like Ozuna and Stanton, but look at Austin Barnes, for example. He hit 12 in Greensboro, 3 in Jupiter. Mark Canha, 20s in Greensboro, 5 in Jupiter. Etc.
June 1, 201412 yr You're just talking about home runs? Because Barnes has hit consistently at every level (even Jax, when he was there). I don't think people are looking only at the power numbers/home runs when they're talking about these guys. To put it into perspective, Barnes had 36 doubles at low A. This season he has 11 so far. If you project out to the 123 games he played in GBO, he'd have around 30 (30.75) doubles....so he isn't losing much there.

Mark Canha, 20s in Greensboro, 5 in Jupiter. Etc. Yes, but I've long heard that Jupiter is a pitchers park. I think your theory works but just in reverse. The way I see it is Greensboro and Jacksonville being the better barometers and Jupiter and NOLA being the extremes.
June 1, 201412 yr Yes, but I've long heard that Jupiter is a pitchers park. I think your theory works but just in reverse. The way I see it is Greensboro and Jacksonville being the better barometers and Jupiter and NOLA being the extremes. There's also the fact that Greensboro has a small ballpark - it's about 315 down the lines and barely into the 360s in the gaps. 400 to straightaway center, which is fine, but those gaps and lines make home runs relatively easy. But yes, Jupiter is a pitcher's park.
