Nice performance by Hand.

Struggled at RISP but we blanked Astros.

Just 4 games behind to .500

Yes, and gained a lot on teams ahead of us. Offense sucks. We need to make a quality trade and shake it up. Mcgehee needs a day off btw.

Mcgehee looked pissed. That being said he always looks pissed when he doesn't get a hit, even if he's on fire

Since Cishek's terrible blown save against the D-Backs on July 9th (and since the all-star break): 6 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 8 SO (5 saves just since July 20th!)

*sigh* I miss the Astros in the National League. Who else would let themselves be held to 3 hits in 7-1/3 to Brad "the White" Hand?

Hand was solid but the hitting with runners in scoring position was abominable. Would like to nationals to lose that would be great.

Six straight innings with a runner in scoring position less than two outs and we needed Jeff Mathis to bail us out where we were only in that situation because an error in centerfield.

Strangely enough I actually felt good with Hand pitching today. Even if the numbers haven't showed it 100% it seemed like Hand was pitching better this go around than any other stint he's had at the majors prior. Certainly has better stuff than Turner. While long term there's no place for guys like Turner/Koehler/Hand in the rotation, it's nice to have guys who can come in and give us 7 or so scoreless innings every so often like Koehler and Hand. These are definitely the kind of games you have to win if you want to finish the season over .500, and that this point that really should be the goal for every Marlins fan this year. Playoffs would be a shocking fun treat obviously, but the more realistic goal is to try and crack the 80 win mark. There's still plenty of parts that need fixing (SS, 2B, RP, back end SP, 1B, etc...) but overall the team's got enough talent to be competitive next season and possibly even give some other teams some trouble going into August.

However the season ends from here on out, everybody's got to admit this team is a lot more fun than last year's squad. It's nice to be able to enjoy watching baseball again.

Through August 31, 2013 we had 49 wins. We have 49 right now, 36 days ahead. I'd say that's damn good.

You can forget about SS. Seriously. The organization loves him and with him hitting around .270 and making the occasional flashy play, they are not going to make a change there.

Also, I predicted he would hit over .260 this year. Too lazy to find where it was.

I know it's cool to hate him here but I think we could do worse. (I know you guys will now post up some saber stats and tell me he's the worst player in the history of baseball)

.

Either way, did anybody see the Ken Rosenthal article on Stanton. If wanted to sucker punch him with two hands.

I think you need to restate that last sentence. Plus, what article?

Dont really see what is so egregious about the Rosenthal article. The Marlins never had any intention of keeping Stanton, which has been perfectly clear since the moment they refused to even consider giving him an extension that bought out arbitration and free agent years.

That article made a lot of sense actually.

Except for the part about Ryan Dempster. Of course we dealt him in '02, keeping him would have been retarded. Cliff Floyd, now he could have helped the team in '03 over... say... Todd Hollandsworth.

Yes, I know Floyd got us Pavano. Still, he was a beast in his prime.

Why would keeping Dempster have been so bad?

Where would you have put him in 2003? Plus I think he was a pending Free Agent.

Penny, Beckett, Burnett, Willis, Pavano, Redman.

He would have been a more expensive Redman.

Not to mention his ERA from 2001-2003 was a solid 6.00 +/-
