Post Game 8/10

Featured Replies

Starting this thread a little early.

Brad Hand collapses. Marlins strikeout 10 plus times again. A four strikeout game for Mathis. Stanton robbed of a home run. Plenty of chances to get back in it squandered.

This offense is an anti-clutch strikeout machine.

Surely major league hitters can make contact with the ball. This strikeout shit is pathetic.

Nah, he was decent it seemed, but got destroyed in the 5th.

Well, take the series against St Louis or sweep them. All I can say.

Hell at this rate, Atl, Mets, or even this Marlins team...can be in 2nd at end of the season. Nats are running away and Phillies are last lol place.

This would have been an amazing sweep but unless this offense wakes up we will be in trouble.

Too many chances to score given away and 10 strikeouts a game has become common. Striking out does not to help your team except staying out of double plays.

Rather small positive to take away from this game, DeSclafani with a solid inning with 2 K's out of the pen. I think that's where he's going to find his home in 2015.

A 3-3 week leaves the Marlins five games out of the second wild card. Meanwhile, they lead MLB in batter strikeouts (1,056) and are on pace to set a new record (surpassing 1,428 by the 2013 Tigers).

Well that sucks!

That's where his permanent home should be

I thought that was the point I was trying to get across. Whatevs, we agree.

I agree, especially because the Marlins starting pitching depth is pretty weak right now.

really don't get why people say that.

It's not people, its a single blowhard from Charm City.

While its not all A++++ prospects, we have more than enough above average depth at the position from the Majors down through the minors.

i dont understand when people say that. Obviously guys are injured now but we only need 5 of those guys to work out and 4 of them have pretty clearly already worked out in Fernandez, Alvarez, Eovaldi, and Koehler to some extent and we still have Heaney, Nicolini, Desclafani, Williams, and more. Plus thats just the in system guys and doesnt account for cheap free agents who we may give shots in spring. We have more than enough starting pitching. I would use some of it to try to acquire hitting for next year.

We have way more depth as an organization in the bullpen than we do in the starting rotation. If Desclafani can be a backend starter, why would you want him to become a reliever long-term?

I could easily say "you only need 7 relievers," as well. It makes no sense.

Disco has been successful in AAA this year as a starter so there's absolutely no reason to transition him to the bullpen yet.

People on here love the idea of moving young guys to the bullpen for some reason. It's been said about Eovaldi numerous times too, and Alvarez to a lesser extent. The more of these guys we have becoming competent starters, the better we'll be.

Who is saying that? Thats pretty dumb but I think ultimately his role will be a good late innings guy. And yes we do have a lot of bullpen depth.

I always thought the Eovaldi to the bullpen talk was dumb, but long term I think Disco works better in the 'pen. I do agree that for the time being that we need to see if he can make it as a #4 or 5 starter because obviously starters are more valuable commodities, but I feel when watching Disco that his stuff is better in short doses and he's actually a more confident pitcher early in starts when his stuff is going good.

I was talking about moving him to the bullpen when Gregg was the set up man and we really needed somebody to unseat him, but thankfully Bryan Morris stepped up and did that for us so I don't see the urgency to throw Disco to the 'pen just yet.

The Eovaldi to the bullpen talk, at least for me, was when he only had command really of one pitch, that being his fastball. I said back then, "if he can get a little more endurance and control of at least one more pitch, he could make it as a starter," and for the most part this year, he's done that, so I've taken my bullpen statements back and admitted I was wrong.

If Disco can get it going in the starting rotation, as well, that's fine with me, too. Just be successful somewhere on the roster.

I guess after reading this, I agree. It's funny, because I liked Eovaldi as a starter the whole time even though his command issues were worse than DeSclafani's. Maybe I had more faith in Eovaldi's stuff, I think Disco has a nice fastball/slurve combo but is there a third pitch there to suggest he's going to be a successful starter?

This is obviously a small sample size to base anything off of but I loved the way he looked coming out of the pen the other day.
