November 13, 201411 yr Idiots. Regarding the keystone, Hill and Jennings expressed comfort in the team’s internal options, naming Derek Dietrich, Donovan Solano, and Enrique Hernandez as possibilities to battle in camp. Though the power-hitting Dietrich has had his struggles, Jennings emphasized that“nobody is giving up on him.” The team will not be impacted by the uncertain timing of the market entry of players such as Jose Fernandez and Hector Olivera, per the front office duo, in part due to their familiarity with that pair of Cuban stars and in part because a plausible internal solution is already in place.
November 14, 201411 yr I mean, if we're going to stay within the organization, at least the comments toward Dietrich are positive. I would love to see a Dietrich/Hernandez duo.
November 14, 201411 yr I still think Hernandez will solidify the position. His offense will be spotty but with the boost in BABIP from the ballpark I think he has the potential to be a very positive player for us. If Dietrich could also get that boost from the park we could potentially have two fairly solid offensive second baseman.
November 14, 201411 yr the uncertain timing of those Cuban prospects makes it really hard to determine when exactly the Marlins won't sign them

November 14, 201411 yr Dietrich should have been sent to Winter ball to work on his defense, however it seems the Marlins new FO does not believe in that, as you can observe by so few players actually playing this off-season I know they had a working agreement with Ponce who recessed this season but there are many other Winter League teams
November 15, 201411 yr I'm not for a big spending binge, especially with the extra taxes this transaction would command, but the infield is arguably the worst in the National League right now, and free agency has nothing else. Moncada will be a young, dynamic piece that you can hopefully plug in for 2016. If the farm wasn't so terrible It would be easier to pass, but Miami has to look at this right?
November 16, 201411 yr The reason The Marlins may not make any move of significance is that they believe the status quo can hold down the fort until Avery Romero is ready to take over at 2nd base. It appears the FO is convinced Romero is close right now. A solid half season at Jacksonville will translate into a quick call up to the parent club

It appears the FO is convinced Romero is close right now. A solid half season at Jacksonville will translate into a quick call up to the parent club Romero is going to be very average if we're lucky, too. I wish I understood what makes Avery Romero a prospect worth projecting as a major league starter. The tools aren't very loud. Production has come on slow. I don't get it.
November 16, 201411 yr The book on Avery Romero... Developing into a solid defender, Strong arm, not great speed but good base runner solid bat control projects as a good hitter, fast bat many believe will develop power but right now is an excellent contact hitter
November 16, 201411 yr http://www.fishstripes.com/2014/7/23/5926999/miami-marlins-prospect-update-avery-romero Nice profile on Romero
November 16, 201411 yr I wish I understood what makes Avery Romero a prospect worth projecting as a major league starter. The tools aren't very loud. Production has come on slow. I don't get it. I agree completely. His ceiling is Omar Infante, almost identical comparison as far as his tools go. But that would be a BEST case scenario. Shaky defense and all, Dietrich is more exciting than Romero... OPS > BA

November 16, 201411 yr I personally don't see anything wrong with Omar Infante although he came up as a SS and is a different type of player than than what I read about Romero. Romero seems to be a high OBP guy with gap power that the Marlins do not have in their lineup right now

Romero seems to be a high OBP guy with gap power that the Marlins do not have in their lineup right now Well, he did finish the year strong, so he's probably the best 2B prospect in the system, which isn't saying much. He projects as...Austin Barnes? Lol.

Romero seems to be a high OBP guy with gap power that the Marlins do not have in their lineup right now I never said there was anything wrong with Infante, he's a league average 2B in almost every way. I think Romero has a chance to be that league-average 2B, but in a perfect world. Realistically, he's not really very exciting, and probably won't amount to the career Infante has had.
November 17, 201411 yr The Rangers and Cubs have a lot of middle infield talent, so Starlin Castro and Elvis Andrus are being floated around. Either is worth a look.

November 17, 201411 yr Think I'd rather have Castro at this point. Andrus has a heavy contract for a bit and not doing too well on offense.
