November 17, 201411 yr The Rangers and Cubs have a lot of middle infield talent, so Starlin Castro and Elvis Andrus are being floated around. Either is worth a look. I'd be curious if the Marlins had the pitching needed to get Castro. At first glance, I'd say no.
November 17, 201411 yr any conversation for Castro starts with parting with Heaney.. big bullet we'd have to bite.
November 17, 201411 yr any conversation for Castro starts with parting with Heaney.. big bullet we'd have to bite. Absolutely. BUT! At the same time. If we're smart, we can pry a couple of players away, as well. Cubs need pitching. Their offense will be stacked, but they barely have any arms. I don't know how good their farm system is with pitching, but given their need for pitching, we could maybe get not only Castro for Heaney, but a couple others. At least I would think so.
November 17, 201411 yr I still think that would be a big trade going down between both clubs. Still don't know what Heaney can do at the major league level, I think he has good year in 2015. Castro sounds nice but I'd to see what we can find in the Winter Meetings before going down that avenue.
November 17, 201411 yr I think we could get Howie Kendrick for a lot cheaper prospects, i believe. (compared to what Castro is going to cost)
November 17, 201411 yr I think we could get Howie Kendrick for a lot cheaper prospects, i believe. (compared to what Castro is going to cost) Would love Kendrick but he is a free agent in one year and making 9.85 million. Also heard he has Marlins on 4 team no trade. Elvis Andrus also extremely overpaid and last two seasons have been quite bad.
November 17, 201411 yr any conversation for Castro starts with parting with Heaney.. big bullet we'd have to bite. I'm not ready to do that quite yet, especially because you know Miami will probably diminish his impact by putting him at 2B instead of moving Hech. I would lean toward keeping Heaney. It's enticing though.
November 17, 201411 yr I think we could get Howie Kendrick for a lot cheaper prospects, i believe. (compared to what Castro is going to cost) Fair point but I think with Giancarlo locked in we should probably try to get a younger core locked in. I'd rather take my chances with Hernandez/Dietrich/Barnes in 2015 than a one year rental veteran.
November 17, 201411 yr Honestly, the cubs might be willing to give something significant for Eovaldi. He has really good peripherals his actual numbers are where his problems are. Looking at what the cubs have done recently they might give us someone we could use immediately.

November 17, 201411 yr Author How funny would that be if the marlins moved the much better defending SS to 2b.
November 17, 201411 yr I think it's a bit unfair to Kike Hernandez that so many people are forming general opinions on him based on 40 AB's he had with us last season. Astros fans loved him and were sad to see him go. He's going to be 23 years old next season having just batted .337 with an .887 OPS in AAA last season. Don't get me wrong I understand the skepticism given his previous minor league track record isn't all that pretty, but at the age of 22 he had a great season in AAA and held his own in 80 AB's with the Astros. At the very least it feels like he could serve as a solid backup option going into next season. That being said Derek Dietrich should really be starting next season if they don't acquire somebody else. He's got the best chance to be a competent hitter in the majors at the moment and the defense issues should be relatively easy to fix. Hernandez would benefit greatly from another half season in AAA to prove if those 280 AB's last year were legit and Dietrich gets the one last chance he really deserves to prove himself. Also Solano should not be starting in the majors, let alone doing it for three seasons now.
November 18, 201411 yr We signed some guy by the name of Omar Artsen today. I don't know who he is but he plays 2B and seems to have speed so wooo.
November 18, 201411 yr he's coming over from some independent league. I'd be surprised if he wasn't in AA or lower to start the year.
November 18, 201411 yr Author I swear to god if Solano is our starting 2b (from barry jackson article)... ### The Marlins privately considered Kike Hernandez, acquired from Houston theJarred Cosart trade, to be the front-runner for the second base job, but an abdominal injury sustained in Winter League play has left his status for spring training in question, according to the team.Donovan Solano will have a chance and the Marlins have inquired about a few outside options, including Emilio Bonifacio. Derek Dietrich, another option at second, played first base in the instructional league and is now a viable option to play first in 2015, Marlins’ vice presidentMarty Scott said. The Marlins ideally want to upgrade over Garrett Jones (due $5 million) at first but didn’t want to approach the Mets’ two-year, $21 million forMichael Cuddyer, who liked the Marlins.
November 19, 201411 yr The Marlins have no idea who is going to play first, second, or third base as of right now. That seems very clear. I don't even want to speculate because there are SO many different things that can happen. Annoying.
November 19, 201411 yr Boni at 2nd, Hech at ss, Hanley at 3b. Boni and Hech is an offensive disaster.

November 19, 201411 yr McGehee is a shoe-in for 3b, unfortunately. Absolutely not. He's a shoe in for a corner. If they sign Panda, over he goes to 1B.
