November 19, 201411 yr Without pitching a single inning this year? I don't know about that. Didn't JJ get an option with the Padres? Or something?
November 19, 201411 yr Didn't JJ get an option with the Padres? Or something? Yes and they declined it.
November 19, 201411 yr Yes and they declined it. . Wasn't it a really cheap option just in case he had gotten injured?
November 19, 201411 yr Interesting nugget pointed out by Rosenthal on mlb network -- Jennings drafted shields back in TB
November 19, 201411 yr Interesting nugget pointed out by Rosenthal on mlb network -- Jennings drafted shields back in TB The only interesting nugget to shields is who pays the most years & $$$$$
November 19, 201411 yr LMAO, I swear to god I was thinking of former Angels reliver Scot Shields for some reason....HAHAHAHAHahahaha
November 19, 201411 yr I hate 4 years for 32 year old pitchers. How is Cole Hamels deal? He would dominate in Miami.
November 19, 201411 yr Author trade for Cueto anyone? I think he's a FA after next year. If I'm going to have to overpay a pitcher on a long term deal, I'd rather not have to give up assets. And that's also tough to do with the Shields deal, because I don't want to give up the 12th pick we would have to give up to get it done. Would we still have to give up a pick for Lester?
November 19, 201411 yr I hate 4 years for 32 year old pitchers. How is Cole Hamels deal? He would dominate in Miami. $23.5m through 2018 w/ a 2019 option. Its a good deal but the phillies are notorousily stingy (they want one dollar for every 50 cents) traders so good luck getting him without giving up EVERYONE
November 19, 201411 yr I guess Samardzija could be available if the Marlins are interested in dealin...
November 19, 201411 yr I wouldn't deal for smardizja. Unless I remember wrong, advanced metrics say it's all smoke amd mirrors. I would deal for a young controllable infielder
November 19, 201411 yr I wouldn't deal for smardizja. Unless I remember wrong, advanced metrics say it's all smoke amd mirrors. I would deal for a young controllable infielder IDK everything trended positively metrics wise for him. He'd probably be quite expensive prospect wise of course
November 19, 201411 yr Loving all the post-Stanton optimism. This is still the Marlins. What's Mark Hendrickson up to these days?
November 19, 201411 yr Loving all the post-Stanton optimism. This is still the Marlins. What's Mark Hendrickson up to these days? Hitting his head on door frames, probably.
November 19, 201411 yr Absolutely go after the guy. 4 years is not a bad deal. Cosart and Alvarez are great, but Eovaldi is not going to develop into anything better than a 5th starter. The rest of the guys from last year aren't a solution. Consider trading them or keeping them in AAA for seasoning.

November 20, 201411 yr Much more likely: Meanwhile, the Marlins have expressed interest in several free agent pitchers, including right-handers Jason Hammel (10-11, 3.47 ERA for the Cubs and Oakland last season) and Justin Masterson, who battled injuries and was 7-9 with a 5.88 ERA for Cleveland and St. Louis last season but was much better in 2013 for Cleveland (14-10, 3.45). The Marlins also have interest in Arizona left-hander Wade Miley (8-12, 4.34) if the Diamondbacks trade him. November 20, 201411 yr I could live with 2 of those 3. Hoping Miley wouldn't cost too much in terms of a return.
November 20, 201411 yr Hammel and Masterson are both risks, but one is buying high and the other low. I'd be fine with Masterson in Marlins Park.
