April 9, 201511 yr There wasn't enough room on the 40 man for Canha, he didn't really have a position guaranteed so he was available in the draft, there are plenty of guys we could have protected but didn't.

April 10, 201511 yr Sooner or later, Crisp or Reddick would return from DL. If it happens, 25th player like a rule 5 draftee will be thrown out usually. It's too hard that a newbie overcome Career and Money in pro.
April 10, 201511 yr Marlins didn't believe in Canha. That was evident for some time. Don't understand why they didn't think he could succeed, but they didn't.
April 11, 201511 yr The Marlins don't believe in platoons, and, thus, don't believe in platoon players.
April 13, 201511 yr Always liked Canha's power potential. He hit .300+ with an .890 OPS and 20 homers in AAA. We didn't really "dump" him though. Rockies got him in the Rule V draft.

April 15, 201511 yr There's actually a really good article on FanGraphs about Cahna and why you shouldn't feel so bad about the Marlins not protecting him just yet. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/dont-get-too-excited-about-mark-canha/
April 16, 201511 yr There's actually a really good article on FanGraphs about Cahna and why you shouldn't feel so bad about the Marlins not protecting him just yet. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/dont-get-too-excited-about-mark-canha/ I didn't like this articles comps. essentially what I got from it is he has always been old for his league, and was never really challenged. The comps were not college bats and had much longer time in the minors and most of them had significant problems at some point in the minors. You can't discount a guy because he was successful at many levels and was never rushed through the leagues to see what they had.
April 16, 201511 yr I agree. I never pegged him as anything special but it's sort of silly to dump players that can be useful. I still don't understand why he was moved through the system so slowly.
April 18, 201511 yr Even if Canha because nothing but a decent bench bat, not protecting a guy worthy of a major league roster spot is stupid. Especially for a franchise desperate for offensive minded infielders.
