Brad Hand

So like, to my astonishment, he isn't that bad this year (small sample sure, but the stuff is clearly there). In fact, his peripherals are a shit-ton better than Tom Koehler (who sucks imo). His swkstrks are super solid and it appears he's developed a slider this year (throw it more dawg). If the FO knew anything about baseball (they dont) this guy should be our #5 SP next year and TK should be in the BP assuming (huge assumption) the marlins actually sign decent SP. Yeah I said it, I like Brad Hand. Come and get it vince! :)

no fuck that guy. Never forget june 8, 2015 at toronto. Scarred me for life.

I wouldn't mind Hand competing for the 5th spot in Spring Training, but by no means should the FO pencil him in and not worry about it. While he has looked good these past few starts, his history paints a different picture.

Let's see if it is sustainable over the rest of the season and survives the off-season.

It sure does. If Hand continues to perform good the rest of the season I rather bank on him than Koehler and use that $2-3 million that Koehler would stand to make and allocate it somewhere else.

^^^  What he said.

I don't disagree of course. My point is that Hand's success is actually driven by him pitching well (ground balls, swings and misses, low bb/9), where TK has been pretty damn lucky (which has caught up with him lately). He's really outpitched TK this year and if both continue to pitch like they have then the marlins FO should really hand the 5th SP job over to Brad, which they wont, because Marlins FO and all that.

Hand's change-up is still a hunk of junk though

Yet you still like McGehee.  Brad is 10 times better than Casey.  Hands down!

mcgehee has sadly underperformed as a Marlin this year

McGehee has perfomed to the best of his abilities, as everyone who knows anything about baseball was able to confidently predict.

Everyone knows how professional he is. Such a pro right there.

definitely a good #5 going into next year.

3.01 FIP, 19th best in the majors (70IP min). Brand Hand > Felix Hernandez.

Wait, so are you trying to tell me Casey was just never that good to begin with?

Oh, he was fine for a while, but since 2012 (aside from a three-month-ish purple patch), he's been horrible.

Brad Hand is the prototypical long reliever. The only time he should be in the rotation is injuries or a dumpster fire.

8 starts, 3.80 ERA, 8 walks

;)

Felix Hernandez has 45 walks in 26 starts.

Brad Hand > Felix Hernandez

Stats brah. Before this year, absolutely, but he's clearly figured something with his 2 seamer (his breaking pitches are also a lot more effective this year so 2 seamer could be working off of that) that is making him an effective starter. In fact, he's our "ace" in the current rotation (lol). Maybe the marlins pitching coaches actually did something right!
