I'd rather us take a college bat, but the guy from Stetson, and the guy from South Florida are great first round picks. Please no more high schoolers. So ignore high school kids?

Because I don't have time to go through the failed high school kids from the first round. I'm not saying don't take them later in the draft, second round, fine, 3rd and 4th round great. With that said they are less likely to make the show, and with the money spent on a first round pick its a better bet to get only college players.

It’s the nature of the draft. It’s a bit of a crapshoot. I mean I understand what you’re saying, but you still have to take who you feel is best player available. Hopefully Denbo and crew have more success for us.

He was a first round projection earlier this year and is 2nd round now.
June 4, 20188 yr Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t we regularly in the last not draft guys who’s signing bonus was going to be too high (I know I’m not using the right terminology)? Yeah but in recent years they've been pretty good about making up for it with above-slot signings. They spent the max amount possible on the draft (without having to pay overage penalties) in 2016 and 2017, and were fairly close to the max amount in 2014 and 2015. So if/when they target below-slot guys early in the draft, they're offsetting the difference with above-slot signings later on. Many of the recent above-slot picks have been bad (guys like Casey Soltis, Nick White, and Justin Cohen from the 14/15 draft classes have already been released), but a few are still relevant prospects (Roy Morales, Chris Paddack smh, Thomas Jones, Colton Hock).
June 4, 20188 yr Every pro sports draft is a complete and utter crapshoot, but the mlb draft is a crapshoot X a million. Anyone getting too pissed if they get a player they dont like on draft night is just nonsense to me.
June 4, 20188 yr What a dumb thing to say. Sure, there is tons of uncertainty with the draft, but some players exhibit higher upside than others based on scouts who have evaluated their skill sets. Or some are safer picks than others. I admit there's an incredibly high flame out rate, but it's totally absurd to pretend that some picks can't seem much smarter than others. The key point there being "seem" much smarter than others. Obviously everyone has their few players they might like for whatever reason, but specifically in the mlb draft and with so much more going into it than just the best player available, getting too upset for any particular prospects barring a huge reach is just a waste of time.
