April 27, 20188 yr I think there will be a blockbuster trade that will happen. With the Braves and Phills good, I think someone will have to overpay.
April 27, 20188 yr they got a great deal for yelich, and brinson will be fine. Diaz and Harrison will be studs, and Yamamoto has a chance to be a rotation arm or bullpen arm. I saw the same flaws in Maybin’s swing/approach in ‘08 so, like I’ve said before, I really hope you’re right, I just don’t see it happening. Unless he makes some changes to his mechanics along the way he’s gonna be what we see now. Nothing to do with being optimistic or otherwise, I’ve just been around too much baseball in my life to not see that his current swing can’t handle major league pitching. I repeat, I hope you’re right though. As for harrision, he is a lot quicker to the ball with his swing so I can see him being a contributing major leaguer soon. I’m excited about Diaz too but not holding my breath on Yamamoto. I just don’t believe that low velocity translates well from minors to majors. The outs you get in double a from a cheap curveball cause they haven’t learned to hit the offspead pitch yet will not be there and most have trouble dealing with the realization that since they don’t throw 95+, they can’t just put the guy away. Meanwhile, Yelich is being full-blown Yelich in Milwaukee.
April 27, 20188 yr Author Realmuto doesn’t want to play baseball for Miami anymore. A couple of fun wins and losing 17 games this month (and April isn’t gone yet) didn’t change his mindset that he made clear to the media after the firesale. He’s just playing nice now with his comments (likely at his agents request). And I think your view on Brinson and his early results is very short sighted. He should have never been brought up this soon. That’s all on Jeter and his band of boobs. I don’t mind Brinson or the return for Yelich. Still too early to assess that trade. Either way, I wish Realmuto would stay.
April 27, 20188 yr Author not necessarily. I think they will become that, but they dont need to. I think all 3 of them have all star potential. They all have bust potential as well to be fair. Guys with such high strikeout rates are risky. Again, too early to assess the deal.
April 27, 20188 yr I’m inclined to keep JT but not for the reasons a lot of you are saying. His current form isn’t sustainable. It’s a hot streak. He’s a career 282/324/435 hitter. He’s a really nice catcher to have. He’s not a center piece. Out of curiosity I looked to see how old Piazza was when the Mets acquired him. He was 29. But JT is no Piazza. That’s OK though. He’s also not a defense only Molina brother. The catchers that got a lot of value from pitch framing are a thing of the past. JT’s not one of those guys. He’s an all around solid baseball player that plays his position well, it just happens to be catcher, a position that can be feast or famine. I think a player like JT is extremely valuable to have there and even post arbitration can be retained at a reasonable price. Trading him feels almost impossible though. The Marlins should be asking a lot but teams won’t part with the type of prospect we want for a guy who is a steady catcher. We’re better off keeping him. But I don’t expect to keep him and have him hit 3-5 and be a key cog in a potent offense. What we saw last year is about his max. Unfortunately I don’t think we have anymore exciting trading chips left except maybe Strailey. Strailey at this moment in time wouldn’t command enough to move him. If he returns and has an outstanding season then maybe we can entice a team really looking to make that final push to send a prospect over. That’s a best case scenario though.

I actually agree with this too. Although I will say I think Realmuto can be a consistent 3+ WAR catcher, which is pretty valuable. My reasons for keeping him aren’t about the hot streak either. I don’t think he’s a superstar, but I also think he’s currently a top 5 catcher, arguably top 3.
April 27, 20188 yr Jeter has made it known he wants to build this team from the ground and establish a good foundation. Players like JT do just that. Building off a player like him is essential. I agree in taking this year and accessing where the team is at and where JT feels the team is going for him. Kinda like what the Marlins did with Stanton except sooner. We can't expect all the trades to work out be our hope is that many of them do. Trades like Yelich and Ozuna would be wonderful if they worked out. In the mean team re-establish the new core of players that will be coming through. JT at catcher, Brinson in the Outfield in hopes of Harrison and Sierra turning into the players they are projected to be.
May 17, 20188 yr How much do you guys think JT Realmuto is worth? Would you give him a 5 year deal worth $50-$60 million total? ???

May 17, 20188 yr He will be traded soon for nothing, don't worry. If they wanted to trade him for nothing, they already would have done that.
July 8, 20188 yr Author I actually agree with this too. Although I will say I think Realmuto can be a consistent 3+ WAR catcher, which is pretty valuable. My reasons for keeping him aren’t about the hot streak either. I don’t think he’s a superstar, but I also think he’s currently a top 5 catcher, arguably top 3. Even I was underrating him a couple months ago. Correction: The Miami Marlins have the best catcher in baseball, and his name is JT Realmuto.
July 8, 20188 yr Even I was underrating him a couple months ago. Correction: The Miami Marlins have the best catcher in baseball, and his name is JT Realmuto. JT is the without a doubt the best hitting and baserunning catcher in MLB. JT has elite pop time as well behind the plate but he is below average (that’s being nice) at blocking baseballs and (correct me if I’m wrong), pitch framing. With th all that said he’s probably the best overall catcher in MLB.

Haven’t checked recently, but I believe he’s gone from one of the worst to above average at it.
July 16, 20188 yr https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/07/nl-east-notes-realmuto-nationals-eovaldi-anthopoulos.html "The Nationals could be willing to “revisit” talks with the Marlins about J.T. Realmuto, according to Fancred Sports’ Jon Heyman. The Nats have long been connected to Realmuto, though GM Mike Rizzo seemingly threw cold water on the potential of a trade a few weeks ago by saying that his team wasn’t willing to meet Miami’s very high asking price for the star catcher. Now, there is some belief that Washington could be open to dealing star outfield prospect Victor Robles, though Heyman notes that this is unconfirmed. The Nats were firmly against the idea of dealing Robles or Carter Kieboom to the Marlins for Realmuto, which is what brought talks to a halt in the first place. Robles entered the season as a consensus top-10 prospect in baseball, and after making his MLB debut in 2017, there were whispers that he could emerge (likeJuan Soto has) as an everyday option in Washington’s outfield this season. Instead, however, Robles has missed almost the entire year due to a hyperextended elbow, and has only recently begun a rehab assignment. He’ll have only a couple of weeks to fully return to action and prove his health prior to the July 31 trade deadline, though one suspects that Robles’ stock is high enough that he would have to appear drastically limited (or suffer another injury) to lose too much value as a trade chip." My point was, which player would boost our playoff hope the most in the future? a great catcher or a great OF (suppose Robles really become a great player)?I think the answer was very clear that a catcher would make much bigger contribution than a OF,so even we got Robles in reture we still lose in this trade and that would only happened after JT refused to stay here long term,so I don't think we would trade him before an extension contract was offered to him and convince him to stay here would be the biggest goal they need to reach.
July 16, 20188 yr Take Robles if JT doesn’t take the contract Jeter offers. Looks like the first moment I can recall where you, I and taiwan all agree.
July 16, 20188 yr Is it just Robles for Realmuto? 1 for 1? if so the answer is no. plain and simple. The question for me is what else is included in this proposed trade. I kind of got the impression the discussion starts with Robles or Soto, but it doesn't stop there.

July 16, 20188 yr Yeah package starts with them. What would need to be included to get it done? Keibloom? Romero? who else?
July 16, 20188 yr I don't care which one was better in Robles and Soto because I never want to deal JT,but I just wonder which one was better ?
