Ok, let's try to sign him long term one hundred more times until he finally agreed to…

"JT. What about 6 years and $72 million?"

No.

"How about 6 years, $72,000,001?"

... no?

*25 attempts later*

FINE FINE I'LL SIGN!

"So that's 6 years, $72,000,026."

Whatever.

I watched the movie "Game Night" over the weekend (actually enjoyed it quite a bit), and there was a scene similar to this where they're trying to pay off someone and he Starts with a $10, then adds a $5, then very slowly offers a $1, and even more slowly another $1.

"Can you give her the hundred?"

Well how much did you have?!

"... $17."

Love that movie. lol

so Jeter only has $17 ?

Don't forget all the money he saves on the electric bill by keeping the roof open during games.

Is my Mom Derek Jeter? The windows have been open for like three weeks at her / my house.

It will be interesting to see the reaction after he gets dealt.  Last winters deals were executed fairly quickly.  This one is dragging on for so long that I feel for people who are following along, a sense of relief will be larger than any excitement or disappointment.  As for the fans who haven’t been checking in regularly, I wonder about their level of awareness.  Certainly everyone knows the team is trying to move JT, right?  So when this gets announced can we skip over the shock of “Here we go trading our big name players again.”  We need old takes exposed to go back and grab old tweets from last winter where people online tweeting about the Marlins AAA roster can be asked in the present about why they’re so upset the Marlins just traded a “AAA catcher”

Nah, people are going to do that regardless.

I disagree.

Fans will either be excited or disappointed.  It’s the Marlins,  and their long track record (that dates back well before Sherman/Jeter) of trading top tier talent will cause disappointment for most.

This whole waiting game is the new modus operandi in baseball so get used to the waiting.

I was listening the the EW podcast this week and they were discussing how we react to signings.  There’s a sense that we want signings to happen now so we can talk about them, but once the signings are over then what?  If everyone signs in November then a general dissection of new rosters and projections can take place over the course of December.  Then what happens in January and early February?  So in a way there’s more content for writers if Bryce Harper and Manny Machado sign in February than if they sign in November.

As it relates to the Marlins, if JT had been traded at the winter meetings I’m sure we’d find something to post about, but it would be less pressing .

Would packaging Wittgren with Realmuto increase the return?

Might the tentative teams finally give in to the Marlins demands if Wittgren is included?

I would thinks so, no?

It seems inexplicable to me that they'd just let him go for nothing with some of the other guys on the roster.
