April 5, 20197 yr if anything , the Mets should worry more about getting players who know how to bunt properly...
April 5, 20197 yr one follow-up note: if they want to truly improve the fan experience for us couch commandos - they'd find a way to get Hollandsworth the hell outta there. There is not a more annoying dude broadcasting for a team out there. Yeah - he was alright at first, I feel, but now he just rambles on and on. He certainly does not subscribe to the idea of "less is more."
April 5, 20197 yr Author Yeah - he was alright at first, I feel, but now he just rambles on and on. He certainly does not subscribe to the idea of "less is more." This is my big problem with him. He is trying to make one point and goes so far off that he often never gets to that point and suddenly the half inning is over.

There is not a more annoying dude broadcasting for a team out there. The Rays and White Sox color commentators say hi. With a little luck, P. Wilson has gotten more comfy working for the 'stros and found his voice. I know alotta people here hated him. I couldn't stand Eduardo and his mouth full of marbles but he is a great analyst.

I was hoping with the dimelo thing and all the changes they made (including bringing back Tommy for pre/postgame last year) that they'd bring back Rich and Tommy in the booth for this year. I’d love it if once in a while they had the radio guy do the television broadcast DVH or Glen Geffner?
April 5, 20197 yr I was hoping with the dimelo thing and all the changes they made (including bringing back Tommy for pre/postgame last year) that they'd bring back Rich and Tommy in the booth for this year. I think they could bring Hutton back into the booth, but isn't the play by play broadcaster the decision of Fox Sports Florida? I could be wrong here of course.

I know alotta people here hated him. I couldn't stand Eduardo and his mouth full of marbles but he is a great analyst. Eduardo was by far my favorite of the people they were testing out. I never got the mumble mouth thing that some of you complained about. I didn't have any issues understanding anything he said. Hollandsworth is just way too over-the-top without the country-ish sounding colloquialisms that Preston was so fond of using. I know the dude loves his energy drinks but he just doesn't SHUT UP. EVER. I never thought someone more obnoxious than Preston would be in the booth but wow, Hollandsworth sure did top him, easily. If Preston has reigned himself in a bit then props to him - just another example of a former Marlins succeeding elsewhere ?

Of the names they threw out there as candidates to replace Rich last year, I liked Scott Braun. He's a younger guy, but whenever I've heard him fill in on MLB Network Radio on various shows, I've always liked him. I think they could bring Hutton back into the booth, but isn't the play by play broadcaster the decision of Fox Sports Florida? I could be wrong here of course. Probably technically, but I'd find it extremely hard to believe the team doesn't have input/a say in who covers them on the broadcast.
April 5, 20197 yr 23 hours ago, SilverBullet said: The biggest miss here is there is one giant difference here between the Marlins, and other non-contending teams in 2019 - New ownership/Rebrand. Rebrands are common place within the business world. Whether the current message was getting stale, or there was turnover in the executive level (I’d say new ownership qualifies), rebrands are a great way give your team/brand a fresh look and start a new chapter. What the marlins are doing via social media, park renovations, etc happens all the time with your favorite potato chip/candy/soda brands. Not only is it smart, but it’s completely necessary. But because it’s the Marlins, we get this lazy statement lumping baseball ops moves into how they are rebranding from a business development standpoint. Go home Kevin, you’re lost
April 5, 20197 yr Severino I think is ok, the problem is Holly sounds just like him. The changing color commentator sucked. Eduardo didn't have mush mouth often, I think it's just his voice. He was understandable but irritating. He's perfect on a show as a voice. Holly is like Leiter... he likes to hear himself talk sometimes. If I were Fox Sports, I'd look into getting Conine and a SP into the booth. Let the three of em have a "Hang out" type of feel to the telecast. Conine was another one when he got rolling was impressive. Maybe even get D-Train as a field analyst like the A's do with Dallas Braden.
April 5, 20197 yr Why can't it be both though? Getting the right players and teaching them right takes time so why not work on the fan experience along the way? And the people who work on the fan experience aren't the one who work on the on field product so it's not like working on either should take away from the other. I hate the insinuation that working on the fan experience means they aren't working on improving the on field product. You’re absolutely right that organizations can do both and new ownership is doing much better after a train wreck start however, keeping Deitrich would have gone a long way with the Marlins fan base. He could have started Opening Day in Miami.
April 5, 20197 yr I am a big proponent of letting kids in free. The money right now is in TV, but real fans are made by experiencing the game action in person. If you get them early, they will become fans for life. That is how you build a fan base. Plus if kids are coming, then you still make money off their parents and concessions. I don't really see the downside. Outstanding idea. I never thought about it but you’re dead right.
April 5, 20197 yr As far as fan experience goes, I would argue the Marlins have more work to do than they have to do in player ops. The parking is $20-30 per game, that is a terrible extra added expense for fans. You’re right. But I hope everyone here doesn’t pay that. I payed $10 to park across the street from the Shell gas station. I do it all the time.
April 5, 20197 yr We payed $50 at the Braves game last year to park. That’s not apples to apples, though. I’ve also paid the $50 for the Red Zone parking at Suntrust park BUT if you spend $50 anywhere in the Battery that day and get your ticket validated, they waive the $50 parking fee.
April 5, 20197 yr You’re right. But I hope everyone here doesn’t pay that. I payed $10 to park across the street from the Shell gas station. I do it all the time. I always park at that little tan colored plaza across from the laundromat for $10. It always has spots, is an actual lot (not someone's "no blocky blocky" driveway), and the guy stays there the whole game. The only time I'll park in the garage now is the rare occasion they have a discount garage ticket or maybe if it's raining (I've also thought they should have built some sort of cover from the garages to the stadium). That’s not apples to apples, though. I’ve also paid the $50 for the Red Zone parking at Suntrust park BUT if you spend $50 anywhere in the Battery that day and get your ticket validated, they waive the $50 parking fee. So....either way you're spending $50. Though that way it may be on stuff you'd buy anyway, not parking.
April 5, 20197 yr Author I’ve also paid the $50 for the Red Zone parking at Suntrust park BUT if you spend $50 anywhere in the Battery that day and get your ticket validated, they waive the $50 parking fee. Ooh I like this idea. This is a win win all around... I imagine this still counts as the parking being paid for as well so in this scenario the parking gets paid, concessions gets paid, and the fan feels like they're saving money as well.
April 5, 20197 yr Author I park one block away in an open lot on the road between the yellow and green garages, normally just $10, it was $15 when I went last Saturday (gotta see if it stays up like that) ,it's a very short walk for the same price as some of those that are much further away, feels safer than going deeper into the neighborhoods at night, it's not one of those where they trap you in between other cars, the guy/guys stay there all night and are actually friendly. I've parked in the garages numerous times and I don't hate it but if I can save some money parking at this lot I do it. Getting out of the garages on a busy game is a nightmare though. That's something that needs to be addressed. I'd be scared to park there in a sold out playoff game to take an hour to even leave the garage.

He could have started Opening Day in Miami. DD wouldn’t move the needle in any positive way. If keeping Realmuto didn’t help in 2018 DD wouldn’t this year
April 5, 20197 yr Author however, keeping Deitrich would have gone a long way with the Marlins fan base. This is an odd thing to say. What would have changed had Dietrich stayed?

When my dad had a 2 seat 20-game plan in 2012, he got a parking pass too, and it was always terrible getting out of there.
April 5, 20197 yr This is an odd thing to say. What would have changed had Dietrich stayed? He had been with the team since 2013 and was a mid level fan favorite. He’s also better than Herrera.
