I’ve learned over the years not to put too much stock into the ups and downs of a player in the minors and instead focus on the mechanics of the player.
 

That swing and his body mechanics are as compact as it gets so I have confidence that long term he’ll have no issues with the bat. The more compact the swing and mechanics, the deeper you can allow the pitch to travel which should help with pitch recognition in the big leagues. Typically the inability to lay off high fastballs and breaking balls out of the zone is what makes a rookie “struggle” when they come up so as long as he can improve that part of his game he’s good. Plus remember two things; we don’t know if they’ve specifically told him to swing at only breaking pitches when possible to work on a specific part of his game, and he’s gone through two tweaks of his swing recently so there’s always that adjustment period. I believe in him long term 

The fact that these players didn't play much if at all last year can't be overlooked as well.  I know we get further from that as time passes, but it's still going to take different players different amounts of time to get back into their full groove too.  I'm not too concerned.

Told y’all this kid’s hit tool is undeniable. I couldn’t believe how bad he was struggling compared to what I saw at Vandy. Playing in the SEC is like facing High A or AA pitching every night. You’re facing at least one draft pick a series and he raked. 

He is still only batting .198  I check the wahoos box score every night and almost every night I’m disappointed. That average needs to come up big time. This season is well underway and he’s still nit finding a groove. It’s weird too because all of our so called best hitting prospects are our worst hitters in the minors. How is that so? Bleday, Mizner and Burdick 

The top six picks in the 2019 draft were all hitters. Two years later, one of them (Andrew Vaughn) is already a fixture in an MLB lineup and another (Adley Rutschman) is mashing in Double-A. The three high school picks have all reached Double-A or higher and all are impressing at the plate. And then there is Bleday. The fifth pick in that star-studded 2019 draft, Bleday’s .198 average is seventh worst among the 48 qualified hitters in Double-A South. His .660 OPS is 40th among those 48 hitters. Bleday has yet to do damage as a pro, which is concerning as he was seen as an advanced hitter with plus power coming out of Vanderbilt.

Seems to me like its the product of the Marlins shitty hitting development staff.

It's not going to go from .198 to .270 overnight, especially this deep in the season. He's making the adjustments. Patience. If the struggles are still there mid 2022 then be worried.

But yeah, I’m not worried about Bleday more than I am about the coaching staff.  But it seems Lewin & Sanchez have eased some of my concerns there.

Oh yeah Jazz for sure.  I think Jazz struggles are linked with his personality at the plate.  To much confidence and not knowing his role as a lead off hitter.

to be fair he's also been squeezed with an abnormally jacked up strike zone both last year and this year.  I'm not sure what's going on there but it's not just us that's noticed it.  There have been tweets out there where it's been discussed. I think even Blaylock pointed it out for crying out loud. 

I also never saw Jazz as some dude who's gonna hit around .300 as much as I would love him to.

Yeah I agree, I think as long as he’s hitting .260-.270 with speed and 10-15 jacks to go along with hopefully more steady defense he’a a total win in my book.

I think he's more in the 25-30 HR range once he gets it figured out, honestly.

He just needs to chill at the plate, relax and stop TRYING to go deep.

Cooper bottomed out after 88 PA. Bleday bottomed out after 209 PA. Plus Bleday has been mediocre in the last 100 so his numbers are not rising very fast. Overall Bleday has 308 PA, so in order for him to recover like Coop, it would take at least 3 times as long to get there.

For sure.  It was almost an every bat occurrence.

Oh definitely, I was just saying where the floor would be for me to believe he was worth making the Gallen trade for. Dude has 30 homer power easily.

😆 Yeah bad example but it was pretty sweet how a player can either fall and rise and make up a lot of ground. 

Do you remember when Javier Vazquez had a 360 turnaround in the 2nd half of his last season with the Marlins?  I think Im getting that right.

Yes. He was god awful in April, slightly better in May, and then slowly but surely started putting it together ... June was ok, July was decent, August was good, September was great. It was amazing.

I remember not wanting him to retire, and hoping he would come back next season.
