EricOwens!
Has any pitcher ever come back after at least 2.5 years due to a shoulder injury and morbid obesity and been any good?

Morbid obesity is a stretch. Not unlike the stretch in his waistline, but a stretch nonetheless.

Confirmed morbidly obese. His “severe health condition” was late-onset acute lethargy. Edited March 4 by EricOwens!

According to this chart, *I'M* morbidly obese. I can guarantee you that's not the case and you'd agree if you saw me. "Acute lethargy" is lack of exercise. That's not a health condition. If you exercise and put on any sort of muscle mass, BMI is an awful measure. Power lifters are usually in the morbidly obese category. According to this measure, I started becoming overweight when I started seriously lifting. Edited March 4 by Entendu
SirFishFan
BMI is inherently flawed as it does not take into account lean muscle mass. For someone my height a normal “healthy weight” would be somewhere in the 170-185ish range. I’ve gotten down to that weight once in the past with strict diet and exercise. Let’s just say it wasn’t worth it. Yes I may have been skinny enough to see my ribs through a t shirt and hear comments from people telling me that for a body type like mine I should put on more weight. But I think that because there are different body types that people have, some naturally slim and slender, some more athletic and some large, and then some with a combination of two types. The BMI might be useful as a very basic guideline, but yes the moment you start gaining muscle and some weight as a result you will probably end up in the obese category according to BMI but in reality you will be Swole according to your buddies. 😂 I think I look best in the 190-220 range depending on how much muscle/body fat percentage I happen to have. Reminds me that I need to stop eating chicken tenders and start exercising again. 😂😂😂😂😂 Fun reading if you want. https://www.sciencefocus.com/comment/bmi-we-know-its-flawed-so-why-do-we-still-use-it/ Edited March 4 by SirFishFan

EricOwens!
I understand the limitations of BMI. Point stands that he didn’t take care of himself after his injury which made the rehab process take much longer. Added 46 lbs of excess body weight as well. This all coming from a guy who the Phillies were already skeptical of due to his lack of work ethic. He vindicated their fears and now has to deal with a shoulder injury and years of downtime as a power pitcher. Am I supposed to believe he’ll be hitting 99-100 ever again? I doubt it.

I wish doctors offices would stop using these outdated type charts that are useless in 2023. There is no way I'd WANT to be at my 'idea' weight which is 175 or so (I think) I have more lean muscle mass than that! LOL
