Sixto Not Expected to Pitch Until Midseason

Featured Replies

Sixto Sanchez is healthy and "in the best shape of his life" but still won't be on a big league mound until probably after the All Star Break because of concerns surrounding his conditioning and arm strength.

Man seriously at this point I don’t expect much from him. Hoping he comes back strong but man this just sucks..

I just wanna know if this is normal considering where he's at or if this is considered a setback.

I see it as normal, I don't know if anyone actually expected him to be ready for the big leagues in April

Agreed, just when I see Sixto news my brain assumes it's something bad so its like I'm gonna need Skip or Kim to assure me everything's gonna be OK lol

Glad to hear it, this is very good news! Id rather give him plenty of reps in AAA to get his mechanics figured out

Get his arm stretched out and all that, absolutely. And even if he doesn't get fully stretched out to start MLB games, if his velo and movement are all there, big bullpen option for the second half.

Jake Eder, too.

Man if we can just stay in this race by July ...

Just thinking as well, if we do go to a 6-man rotation later in the year [with Sandy still going every fifth game] ...

Sandy

Luzardo [probably capped at 160 innings is my guess]

Cabrera [probably capping at 140]

J'Daniel [180-200? Let him go and see what happens]

Cueto

Eury [cap at 60 MLB innings]

Brax for some spot starts

Eder and Sixto can do 3-inning stints at times if healthy

Shoot ...

Let's rewrite that sad sack blurb:

"Sixto Sanchez has lost 50 pounds and he’s still building arm strength but isn’t expected to be ready until summer."

vs

"Sixto Sanchez has lost 50 pounds and is still building arm strength; he's expected to be on a big league mound by midseason."

I like this change.

So 2 1/2 seasons before he might return. How many outings before he needs TJ next?

Probably won't. It was all shoulder stuff for him so if that's behind him, might be OK.

i do agree he could be a massive boost, especially out of the pen - but as a pessimist i know he's gonna blow his elbow out after a few starts....just because....Marlins things

I still believe he may very well have the best raw stuff out of any pitcher on this team, so getting him back midseason would almost be like a major trade addition. Of course, he hasn't pitched since 2020, so I'm not sure how much we can actually expect from him if and when he does return this season.

Eh, he was pretty meh the second time through the order and when teams would see him again - he does have very good stuff. Not arguing there but I think Sandy and Lizard have better stuff overall imo.  I really do think Sixto's best value would be as a closer or high leverage dude from the pen.  I understand a starter has more value but he really was hit pretty hard when guys would see him again later on - especially the next time they met in another series.

Anyway, he should be a good upgrade either way assuming he hasn't lost motion and velo.  I'll be very interested to see what he can do post ASG.
