Wow... Stallings

I think with all the Avi hate I allowed myself to be blinded by the fact that Stallings needs to be DFA'd.

He legit is not a Major League hitter and makes Jeff Mathis look like a silver slugger at this point.

just fucking WOW.

I am shocked he has been this bad. What a shame. When we made that trade I thought we had our catcher problem solved for a while.

Yea, I don't think any of us expected him to be this bad.

Besides the offense, even his defense is dropping off. He has 2 passed balls already this year and it isn't like he is calling amazing games either.

Is he still paired with Sandy?  Maybe it's time for that to end.

Marlins are trading outs at the plate for defense with Stallings. If he gets a hit its an unexpected welcome surprise.

When they got him, they probably assumed he'd hit .250 but he can barely hit above .150

Maybe we should get Jorge Alfaro? 😄

Ng, wake up.

He is one of the worst defensive catchers in baseball and has hit either at or below .200 in four of the last five years. If he were a Marlin, everyone would want him gone.

Believe me: I live in NJ and watched a TON of Sanchez while he was with the Yankees. There is a reason why no MLB team wants this guy on their roster.

Paul McIntosh is a 25 year old catcher playing at Double-A for the Marlins right now and hitting .286/.368/.551 with 7 walks and 12 strikeouts in 57 plate appearances. He has a 148 wRC+. I don't know if he's any good defensively, but neither is Stallings at this point and at least McIntosh can hit.

I'm convinced.  Bring up the apple

but back on topic, Alfaro was so bad defensively that I was willing to happily accept even a .220 avg with minimal pop from Stallings as his defense was supposedly top flight.....he's literally the lowest energy ballplayer I've ever seen. He's just shit at his job and they literally need to make Fortes full-time (yes, even for Sandy) and try out other guys until they find one that works (or Fortes gets his shit together as even he is still better than Stallings - but not by much)

Fuck you Sherman and Ng for not bringing JT back.

No thanks.

per MLBTR:

Though he once seemed like the top offensive catcher in the league, he’s hit just .195/.287/.394 since the end of the 2019 season, striking out in 29.5% of his plate appearances.

Sánchez joined the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats for the past month but has hit just .164/.319/.182 in his 69 plate appearances there.

Of course nobody knows for sure only JT and maybe his agent, but if we look back to 2018 offseason:

Do you think there’s a chance that JT Realmuto just really does not want to play for the Marlins at all, even if they had offered him a huge contract. Again there’s no way to know for sure and it’s easy to say things like “Well, I’m sure if the Marlins had offered him a bigger contract than the Phillies he would have put aside his differences.”

But I don’t know, it wasn’t that much time between when he left and when he became a free agent. It could be that he just really really under any circumstances did not  want to play on the Marlins, maybe he had his mind made up that he would never look back.

So perhaps he had just as much or even more of the blame of why he didn’t return. Again I could be wrong here, and no one but him knows what’s going on in his mind. But I mean, when guys like him and Yelich and Stanton and others were really adamant even emotionally about leaving the Marlins it seemed to be mainly because they didn’t like the direction the team was heading and honestly it’s not like it really got that much better after he left. So maybe he just thought something like “I will literally play for any other team than the Marlins, but preferably one that isn’t going to have a losing season every year.”
