That may be the case.  But that doesn't mean you don't try.

Remember too, that he played a year without Yelich/Stanton/Ozuna in 2018, so naturally he'd want to leave after that.

 

He was a free agent in the 2020-21 offseason, so he played 2 years in Philly.

 

We made the playoffs in the short season, the Phillies didn't.  We'd have had more to sell him on at that time too vs. when we traded him - hey look, we made the playoffs, things are looking up here, look at our pitching staff!

 

Like I said, you're right - he may not have wanted to come here anyway.....but to not even send an offer his way?  Dumb.

Acutally Kninzer might be a better defender right now, so at worse they might be a wash for the two worst catchers in all of baseball.

He allows tons of passed balls, is bad at pitch framing, calls a terrible game and is lazy behind the plate. Pitchers don't even like throwing to him. Gerrit Cole in particular wanted nothing to do with him.

Like I said: I watched him extensively throughout his Yankees tenure. The only saving grace of Sanchez is that he has a decent arm (and even his arm has actually declined rather significantly from his earlier days).

Got a feeling after they screwed his friends and teammates (Stanton, Yelich, Ozuna, Gordon) he said he was done with the mess and wanted out purely out of principle.

Yeah, and for all we know, JT could have very easily told his agent that he has no interest in playing for the Marlins ever again, so even if the FO had made him a decent offer it could have very well not even made a difference.

I know some people here have said that the Marlins looked in a better position after the 2020 season and making the playoffs. But if JT’s biggest issue was with the FO and ownership and that was the main reason he left, I don’t think that only 2 years later he would have changed his feelings on the subject much. 😂

But again only JT and his agent knows what he was thinking about all this. We can only speculate. All I know for sure is that there’s a 95% chance JT is not returning to the Marlins. Only way I see that happening is if he starts playing horribly for a season or two and has no trade value the Marlins might get him in a trade or he signs as a free agent like a year before he retires. Although both those scenarios still seem very unlikely.

The worst part is, there is no easy fix. This roster is so jacked and every player theyve pretty much ever signed or traded for on offense we're pretty much stuck with because theyre terrible and untradeable and were god awful cheap so we cant wont do anything about it. How they dont always do high dollar one year deals every year is beyond me.. but instead they give 2-4 year deals to obviously flawed (bad) players! It's incredible! They should have signed so many players like bellinger or who freakin ever every year for 1 year/10-20 mil then unload them. Every year. I know im repeating by myself.. but fuck! 

Its also incredible i keep investing my time and money but still (knowingly) get pissed off every. Stinkin. Year. For soooo long. God damn it this franchise

I'm still pissed off with this season because this team is STILL not going to make the playoffs and the SAME holes are here that were here last season and the year before. A team that struggles to plate four runs is just a boring team to watch. The mind-numbing stubbornness and cheapness to not just admit some guys just aren't helping the team and need to be cut still exists. There is NO place on this team for Stallings or Avi. Speed and contact should be what they build around in this park and yet year after year they don't. 

They're better but it's still not a good team at all and they're just pretty boring to watch overall.

I can't disagree with any of that but they're still better than ever it seems and it feels like if they could somehow add to this then there's potential to at least contend here. We're in it right now and that feels like a blessing. There's a reason to watch the games now and even glance at the standings. Feels like we've been out of it by almost every other May, not this year.

No, I'm with you.  I'm not pissed off, but rather simultaneously both disappointed and happy.

I'm happy we're actually competitive record-wise even if some metrics say we shouldn't be.  I still haven't been watching as much as years past, just because of my schedule, but I have tuned in more than last year already.

On the flip side, I'm also disappointed because the FO/ownership isn't willing to make the investments necessary to push us over the hill to where we'd be even better and more firmly competitive (i.e. not on a tightrope).  We have starting pitching that is underperforming, and we're still hanging in there....but they continually refuse to invest in the hitters they need that takes pressure off the pitching needing to be perfect every night.  Bruce needs to spend or sell, or bring in Rays FO folks to evaluate hitters if they're going to continue with the cheap path.

Agreed - how they can just largely ignore the same holes as last year aside from the Jazz in CF move is crazy.  They didn't bother getting a big bat, which they've needed for 2-3 seasons now.  The Arraez move was great, but doesn't fit that description, and should've been done in addition to a big bat move/signing.

They just don't feel like a winning team yet so as you said, although the record is there I feel it's largely more luck than skill to this point.

Yeah, it baffles me how year in and year out they can look at the offense that has for years now been abysmal (to be generous) and say "yeah, that's good enough!" and mostly count on "rebounds" from guys that were never all that good.

 

Meanwhile, BA is already only 2 HR and 6 RBI behind last year's total in less than half as many games, for a season total of 6 HR/22 RBI....and his replacement, Segura has a whopping 0 HR and 4 RBI.

Granted, Segura will probably at some point turn it around, an BA now hits in a hitters park, but still...
