Marlins Exploring Trades for C and SS

Featured Replies

I appreciate the thought but it'll be tough to get anyone at this point, not enough teams are willing to sell pieces off yet and it's not like the Marlins have much to offer in return. But yea nice to hear that Kim knows we need to be better.

Yeah, with us having had the same issues/holes in the offseason, and not filling them then, I don't have high hopes for us getting anything meaningful now.

Would be nice to pull the nose up on what's looking like the traditional May-June swoon and maybe a decent team in early July means they can add then. But six weeks from now sure seems like it's lightyears away and it'll be hard to improve with our injuries and offensive struggles. Would .500 in July be enough to be considered a contender?

I think so.  But as you pointed out, we're in our annual freefall out of contention to 10+ under before we right the ship and play .500 the rest of the way.

Kim probably thinks this is what we're supposed to do this time of year since it's just always been this way. She's probably like yesss we're right on target!

I legit have no idea where they plan to find a decent catcher this time of year though.

That might be a um.... difficult proposition.

Finding a SS will be easier but even still, a challenge.

Also not really earth shattering reporting here from ole Craig.  Just a quick scan of the offensive stats alone at those two positions makes you know they'd probably do something.   Add in the defensive stats and as Craig Mish likes to quote his self indulgent self, "Yikes'

What is wrong with calling up Jacob Amaya?  He's been hitting .345 at AAA the past month and looks perfectly capable.  He's young and we traded our last SS for him and is a legit prospect.  Has some pop in his bat and gets hits.  He's potentially miles better than anyone we have at the ML level.

Id take a flyer on Joey Bart for catcher.  Giants have two young guys they like better and he's probably not in their long term plan any more.  Pirates have a guy I mentioned, name escapes me,  who's path is pretty blocked to play.

well, finding a catcher better than Stallings really shouldn't be too hard.  Even if you found a guy who was strictly a defensive catcher he'd likely be an upgrade over Jacob.  I highly doubt they'll find anyone better than Fortes so just upgrading over Stallings at C2 shouldn't be too challenging.  Stallings has been so putrid that I have to believe almost anyone they put in there will be better, even if only marginally so.

This feels like Deja Vu all over again. I swear these exact words were what was said about Alfaro and how Stallings would be better.

.... and now I feel like @TaiwanMarlins ..."maybe this team is cursed".

And the past few days some members of this forum have been nostalgic for Alfaro and wishing he would come back and replace Stallings. 😂

It's like a never ending cycle of terrible catchers..

Tim Anderson + Grandal. Grandal is not good but screw it

Feels like something the dodgers will do though

Honestly, yeah. We're going to have to figure out this whole vegan thing since my meat won't be eaten.

If we still had Bryan Chorizo we could easily have gotten them plus more.

Are you implying it would be some huge haul because i don't think it would be. Grandal has zero value so he doesnt really count much.. hes already losing a lot of PT and is a FA after this year.

There's grumblings they may move TA. Andersons value has really fallen off a cliff. I personally like him but get the feeling they could move on, especially with a good SS prospect coming up. He's only got a club option in 2024 then hes a FA in 2025.

All depends if they hang around in the standings but i think itd be a great match. They have zero minor league pitching prospects so something  with Meyer, Eder or Fulton could make sense.

Meyer was pretty poo in his limited big league action and then blew out his arm. He has very little trade value at this point.

I don't see them moving Grandal and TA for even all three of those dudes at this point. I don't think any of them are even top 100 prospects unless Meyer is still hanging on at the very end for some reason
