October 17, 20232 yr As a fan, I just can not do anything, would only witness them do everything by their own....
October 17, 20232 yr the problem with the team was shitty baserunning, shitty situational hitting, and shitty fielding. not kim ng. kim ng didnt need another boss to improve the team. the reason they lost wasnt kim ng. it was the fact they couldnt score unless they got 3 or 4 hits in an inning. and hoping sandy recovers as well, he was pitching all year hurt.

But she did her job and thus earned better than just one more year. I have no clue how the team can make the playoffs within her initial contract period and then your conclusion is that she doesn't get the credit for it.

That's just a manipulation tactic to deflect, he knew Ng wouldn't want to report to a new person so to say the 'we wanted her but she chose to leave' is bullshit. They knew the result if they did this, and a lack of a extension is more proof they had no desire to keep her. Skip was Kim Ng's guy so I don't see Skip and Bruce ever being best friends and it seems Bruce loves his friends over anything, so I imagine them making Skip's life hell so he can 'choose to leave' and then Bruce will be like "we wanted Skip back but he chose to leave 😢" A whole lot of assumptions in this post.

But my big confusion with it is this: if a team has a GM under a PBO then what GM duties does the GM actually do? Like when the Marlins had Dan Jennings as GM under President Mike Hill, when a trade was proposed, do other teams talk with Jennings or with Hill? One would assume Hill so it made the title of GM sound silly. If Kim had stayed GM here but a PBO came in, would Kim even have GM duties anymore? Like I get the promotion and titles and pay raise aspects, I just think it's really weird to say you're the GM of a team when you aren't actually the leader of the team building department. Yeah, that's my point - the PBO in effectively is still the "GM" with a higher title, so the "GM" is then basically an AGM with the GM title. Like why?
October 17, 20232 yr I said above, I think she should've been offered a 3 year deal, even if she had various issues in her management style. I think she earned an extension to keep steering the ship because of this year. A one year deal a year after they made the playoffs for the first time (full season) in 20 years was insulting from her perspective. And, on top of that, they wanted to effectively demote her. That said, the Astros let the guy that won them the World Series go right after they won it....so....there's that.....

They picked up the option for 2 reasons, Bruce did actually want her to stay as part of his restructured front office and secondly by picking up her option the departure becomes her choice and if she leaves they didn't fire her which would have been even worse than what happened today. I thought the reason for the option being picked up was clear. Oh, I for sure agree. It makes perfect sense why he did it. I’m saying was a shitty move in the broader context that made the entire thing lack integrity. That’s what peeves me.

Maybe dumbbell Romanian deadlifts if I’m too lazy to load the plates on the bar. I nearly pulled my hamstring yesterday doing 1.5-Rep Dumbbell RDLs. Thankfully no harm done!

October 17, 20232 yr Bruce would sell the team soon, he just have no the needed money to play the game even with the revenue sharing.

Originally the trend was designed to make sure that Assistant GM's that were being poached by other teams couldn't leave for a "Better Job" by giving them the "TITLE" GM, but in actuality answering to the real GM, PBO. It was just a way to prevent people from leaving the organization, and keeping the same Hierarchy of power/ decision making. IIRC, wasnt Mike Hill the PBO, Jennins the GM... and same before with Beinfest / Hill when Hill was an attractive GM candidate?

October 18, 20232 yr In this clip, Mish presents it as Bruce wanting Kim to continue being the GM (aka building the roster through trades and free agency) but wanted to bring in someone else to oversee scouting, drafting, and player development and that Kim didn't want to share those duties with someone else, someone not brought in by her. Presented this way, again Kim has every reason to leave... but the Marlins have been bad at scouting, drafting, and player development since new ownership took over so I don't think Sherman was out of line in wanting to have someone new to help improve those areas. Seems like the thought was fair but Bruce fumbled the execution and presentation of this plan. Whether or not Kim should have agreed to share and/or hand over those duties is the debate from there.

That would temper my frustration. But why would such a person be considered above Kim and given the “better” title of President of Baseball Operations? Seems like that role could be Director of Scouting or something like that, either under or co-equal with Ng’s role. I feel like we’re still missing something. Plus she still deserved a multi-year offer IMO, and there’s no indication one was made.
