Dominican team
I have no idea about the A-Rod situation, but in most international sports, it can go back to where your grandparents were born.

Damon's comments could have stemmed from ALCS
When will Damon learn to shut his mouth!! 845921 You don't even know what HE said! 846000 I read his comments on ESPN.com, was not referring to what his wife said.

No Baseball at 2012 Olympics
Most of south and latin america like the rest of the world play football, but still the top football players in the world dont play in the Olympics, its pretty much an U23 event. I don't see just because MLB players may not participate it shouldn't be there, I'm sure a minor league futures team could have played, and maybe even provided levity to the event. Oh well, who knows, Cricket could be added instead, thats a world wide sport!!!!! :whistle

No Baseball at 2012 Olympics
The Olympic committee in their infinite wisdom, have decided that baseball/softball will not be an Olympic event at the 2012 games, recently awarded to London. Ironically on the plans for the 2012 bid, the baseball diamond was the nearest thing in the image. Was hoping that with the World Cup now looking like a reality, MLB players at the Olympics might have been less of a long shot. Here is the article on ESPN.com: Link

Question about Hanley Ramirez
They have Andino in AA who they say has a ML ready glove and Josh Wilson has been in our system for years now. There's also the possibility of a trade for a young, inexpensive player like Ramirez. I just hope we don't go with the Royce Clayton's of the world. 845735 What is Andino's bat like, I heard that he was starting to produce at AA?

Pavano to miss a start
This was recently added to ESPN.com The MRI taken on Yankees right-hander Carl Pavano's sore right shoulder on Tuesday was negative, though it is uncertain when he will pitch again. Pavano was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, and New York brought up 20-year-old outfielder Melky Cabrera from the minors. Cabrera began the season with the Thunder and hit .267 with nine homers and 44 RBIs in 77 games. He was promoted to Triple-A Columbus on June 28 and batted. 324 with three homers and 11 RBI in nine games. With Bernie Williams' defense in decline, New York has struggled to find a center fielder, trying Hideki Matsui, Tony Womack and Bubba Crosby there. Pavano missed his last start after complaining of discomfort in his shoulder. Pavano is 4-6 with a 4.77 ERA in 17 starts. One candidate to take Pavano's place for his scheduled Saturday start is left-hander Darrell May, who was acquired last week from the Padres in the trade for Paul Quantrill. May, who went 1-3 with a 5.61 ERA for San Diego, tossed seven solid innings of one-run ball, striking out seven in his first game with Triple-A Columbus on Monday night. "That's a possibility. If we don't have Pavano, we can look at some options," Torre said on Wednesday. "Sturtze is one, but it really hamstrung us, having to go through the whole bullpen. We'll look for a starter for Saturday if it's not Pavano." Link If the return date for Pavano is unknown, and he misses more than a couple of starts, will the Yankees pull the trigger on a trade for a starter? :plain

How about Chris Resop?
He really helped the rest of the bullpen out after last nights game and with Leiter stepping back into the rotation. Well Done!!

ChiSox interested in Burnett
Surely the Marlins would be just about in the same postion they are now, except they will have to pay Schmidt more, and he hasnt pitched as well as AJ AND give up young players/prospects. If there is to be an AJ deal, we should not give up any top/higher rated prospects in the deal. I think time will tell, and as teams become that little bit more anxious at the trading deadline, if we do decide it is right for the organisation to trade AJ, we could get a really outstanding package for him, as AJ>>Schmidt this year, the only other 'quality' pitcher likely to be traded at this point in time.

regressing back towards the mean
Yeah if the events are independent, and the nats winning a lot of one run games arent independent, just as when they start losing one run games they arent independent. A losing streak will come, it just depends how many games and whether the marlins are playing good ball at that time.

Jeremy Hermida report
An excellent read, does anyone think that moving to AAA will help this kid improve, the pitching/altitude in the PCL may be detrimental

De Los Santos
Of all the experiments this year, he has done the best by far. Our bullpen is improving and pitching better. Mota is on the mend. Jones continues to be very solid. If Alfonseca can come back and be effective we'll be in pretty good shape....not spectacular perhaps, but decent. 837572 I agree, VDLS is performing admirably, Mota is looking like the pitcher we traded for, Bump is what he is - an innings eater who gives up hits but can get out of trouble with the big DP. The only current disappointment is Mecir, who though coming into tough situations, isnt performing up to the standard that we need. I think Alfonseca will be effective when he returns, and I don't believe there is any need to comment on the amazing Monsieur Jones. Give it a couple of weeks, and I think this team will be in great shape. If only we werent paying Lowell $7mil this year................

Updates on our Ist rounders
Thanks for the info, anyone know how long it will be before Volstad & Thompson finish the "piggybacking" and can show what they can really do?

Aranda Signs As Free Agent
Former Aggie signs free-agent deal: Former New Mexico State baseball star Mark Aranda has signed a free-agent contract with the Marlins, the university announced. Aranda will join the club's Single A team in Jamestown, N.Y., next week. "I don't know much about Jamestown yet, but I don't care. I just want to go play," said Aranda, who finished his final season of college baseball with the Aggies last month. "After sitting around the last two weeks waiting for that call and kind of wondering if it might be time to move on, it feels great to get this opportunity." Aranda, who could play either first base or outfield with the Jamestown Jammers, was named a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference outfielder this season. He also led the Aggies and the rest of the conference with 22 home runs and 85 RBI. Link Why wasn't this guy in the draft, anyone know much about him?

Quick question about Beckett
And further more I asked for politness in the responses, I have never been mean or judgmental about anyones ideas or feelings. I wish some people would follow my lead because when it comes down to it, we all love this team and want to see it win. I have expressed my ideas and I will politely step off my soap box. :whistle Couldnt agree more, everyone is entitled to their opinions, even if you believe they are wrong you should respond politely. Just because someone is new to the boards does not make their opinion less valid. :cool

Good Start to long road trip
I think he was trying to make the point that from now on its a normal sized road trip, with only 9 games left, ignoring the three we have already played.

If Dontrelle starts the All-Star game...
to be honest, I hope he doesn't start. I rather have our pitchers rested and ready for the stretch 809098 You do realize he'll only be in there for 2 whole innings, right? Starting in the All-Star game will be a huge confidence booster for him and he'll be a better pitcher because of it. As long as he doesn't get knocked around like Clemens did last season, it's all good. 809271 Dont forget what happened to Pedro a few years back 2000 maybe? He started, and got himself so wound up he injured his shoulder, and has never had the same velocity since.
