RUMOR PIERRE NEXT
wow this would kill me. I love JP and i HATE the cubs. Man this would help them so much too. With a smaller CF and the desperate need for a leadoff hitter it would fit perfectly with them. Oh well, at least i'll be able to sleep knowing that no matter what the cubs do they will still suck.

Will Cabrera and Willis DECLINE to sign long-term now?
I think Dave or someone said that it has been against Marlins policy to make long term deals. I don't think the Marlins will even be able to offer them competitive long term deals (we are talking about one of the top hitters in the league and a CY Young runner up). Also, I can see both of them going for contenders. Heres some food for thought: Where could you see the 2 of them ending up if they were FA's this year? I could personally see Cab's going to St Lous. THey need new OF's and could use a 3b once Rolen's contract is up. Willis is basically the highest bidder. Maybe back to Chicago?

Tommy Hutton comments on the Beckett trade
im glad McKeon left when he did. I wouldn't want him to have to put up w/ the crap we're going to field next year. I don't care if they are all "talented prospects" they are STILL prospects. Hell, we'll have a lot of everyday players who haven't played in the majors before this year. 1998 all over again.

Do we offer Enc, Jones, and Gonzalez Arbitration?
ok, this is nonsense. OBVIOUSLY the team does NOT want to spend money on veteran talent. not to mention they just got a major league ready SS in Hanley. So WHY would you post something like this? It doesn't matter what you would "like" to see (we'd all like to see beckett, delgado, lowell and the whole 05 roster plus some new bullpen help on the field next year). We should focus on what the Marlins WILL do. And I can garuntee you, signing new contracts for vets is NOT one of them. Kill the pipe dreams buddy.

Vicious Cycle
cabs and willis are gone. the team does not sign long term deals. and even if they do they don't honor them (delgado). don't kid yourselves. the only reason they are still here is because they are the biggest names on the team and getting rid of them will get rid of almost all attendence. cabs and willis will be gone when they hit arbitration or their contracts are up. to think that we will be able to afford cabs (one of the better hitters in the league) and willis (poised to be a perineal all star) is ludacris. sorry folks.

Yankess WILL NOT part w/ Canoe. they love this kid and he's already shown he can play at a major league level. stop talking about him because it is NOT going to happen.

If this franchise were to relocate..
wow, everyone is saying yes. what connection do you have w/ the team anymore? the initial connection is that they are from your home town ( for most of you this is the case) hell, 2 years after relocation they won't have any of the same players on the roster. so there goes that connection. how is there a connection that will force you guys to still root for them?

R.I.P Florida Marlins
Let me preface this by saying I'm not automaticlly signing off on next season. I still support the Marlins but not as "die-hard" as I would have if this news hadn't come out. The team has lost any and all legitimacy it has gained since the '97 fire sale. Players and franchises have no respect for this organization seeing as how they not only dispense young/cheap talent, but despense players who picked to play for this franchise over another. Being a verteran for the Florida Marlins means 1 thing, you have the job security of someone on The Apprentice. I love this team. I tried my hardest to make it to as many games as possible (I didn't miss a home series this season, my first season in South Florida since 2002). But I understand what the team is doing and why they have to do it. With no stadium and quite possibly the worst fanbase for any professional team in America, I want them to move. They need to find a stadium somewhere and people who appreciate a major league baseball team. In order for there to be a "team" there must be 3 things: Franchise Players (players that you can count on to be there and perform and which the FO makes it a point to keep them there), a community devoted to the team, and a team devoted to the community. To me, there is no "Florida Marlins" left. Although the team has shown devotion to the community over the past decade, the community has not reciprocated these feelings. Hence the team has been forced to discontinue its support for the community. I no longer feel a tie to the Florida Marlins and have begun the grieving period. I have to accept the fact that I can no longer call them "my team" because the only thing that connected me, the hometown spirit, has been taken away. Its hard to say this, but its something that I have to come and realize. The team is leaving me just as the community has left them. I hope that by the stroke of a miracle the Marlins can get a stadium in the heart of downtown Miami. I hope by the stroke of a miracle that they can stay here and somehow field a team that is competitive every year. But it will require just that, a stroke of a miracle. Admin and Dave, I'm sorry. I'm sorry this community could not support your quest to legitimize this team after its historicaly embarassing moments (fire sale '97, constatnt change of ownership). I'm sorry this community has put you at the bottom of the priority list. Good luck in finding a community that will nuture and support you in your never ending endevore to create a world class baseball organization. Marlins Fans, don't be upset. They are doing the right thing and you know it. Our community, whether it is the placement of the stadium, weather paterns, political redtape, or plain citizens, just cannot support a baseball team. We have had 12 years to show that South Florida can be a legitimate baseball market and we have failed. We have been awarded 2 Championships in 10 years. More than the Miami Heat, Florida Panthers, and the Miami Dolphins have awarded us in more than 30 years. We show little or no support for teams outside of the Miami Dolphins unless they have high priced talent (see: Heat, Panthers). It is a shame that the Florida Marlins, who arguably have the best management of ANY professional sports team in South Florida, cannot be shown the same respect as these other teams when they do infact sign high priced talent and do field a team that can be a legitamate contender for many years to come. It's sad, but it's the way it has to be. R.I.P. Florida Marlins. Thanks for the joy, the heartache, the championships, and giving this community a chance.

Funniest/Most Annoying Encounters...
I have video of cubs fans getting kicked out of the first game of that series (July 8th). I sat next to a braves fan one time and he was awesome. man we talked strategy the whole game. i have a new respect for braves fans. especially since i live close to chicago and cubs fans love to remind me what being an a**hole is all about.

MarlinsBaseball.com Says Thank You to Jack
As one of the few who stuck w/ Jack all season long I want to say thanks to Jack. You know what, he left the club in better shape than he found it and thats all we can ask of a manager. He got us a WS and 3 winning seasons which is more than anyone in the Marlins organization has ever done. Yeah, the preseason expectations got to him a little and maybe he did put too much pressure on his squad. But squads who have strong veteran leadership in their locker room use that as motivation and maybe jack didn't have that. Oh well, enough reflecting. Thanks Jack. and i'm glad you're still a marlin.

Whats going on here?
It seems as if Mike Lowell and Dontrell Willis have switched postions. At first Lowell couldn't hit the ball for his life. And Dontrell Willis was pitching lights out. Not Lowell is finally hitting the ball and Willis is falling into his usual MO "Can't pitch in the second half of the season. I had a feeling Willis would kind of fall off during the second half of the season. I just hope this isnt another typical dontrell season - pitch great the first 80 games and then below average the last 80 games.

Miguel Cabrera
yeah he may get recognition but honestly it is D-Lee's to lose at this point. Like him or not, he has been the leagues best position player so far. 873323 hes got to beat pujols and lee first. its their's to lose.

Dont look now but....

For anyone who wants a reason why not to have Furcal, see the 03 NLDS. 869959 just judging on the 2003 playoffs? this guy has been to the playoffs every year of his career and you are picking one year and one series? wow. I am just amazed of how REDICULOUS that sounds. :lol id say playoff experience is a great way to judge someones talent. you dont want one of your better position players choking during the most important time of the season. where is else someone put on a stage to display his talent more then in the post season? im assuming thats what the mets based on there decision to sign beltran, that huge post season he had last year (and yes obviously he is a much better talent then Furcal). 869987 wow, way to negate 162 games and 6 months worth of game play.

damn, i need to learn how to formulate better sentences. I ment Furcal is having an off year at the plate (.251 where he's hit around .290 the past 2 seasons) and you can expect around 20 errors from furcal a year

Dear Front Office
I'm not bashing AJ but... - he is 6-6 this season with a 3.68 ERA. - he was 7-6 last season with a 3.68 ERA. - he is 43-44 lifetime with an ERA of 3.80. - the last three seasons he is 6-13 4.38 ERA on the road. - 2004 he was 1-6 5.09 ERA on the road. - this season 0-3 4.00 ERA vs Braves - this season he is 2-4 4.17 ERA vs Nats, Phillies and Braves combined(games in September) 869713 I agree w/ your post. But since I agree I'm going to give a different opinion. Wins and Losses are not the best way to determine if a pitcher is good or not. Think about the team he's been playing for, not what you would call an offensive juggernaut. The ERA's are somewhat average. Anything above 4 is cause for concern and anything under 3 is spectacular (at least thats my opinion).

he's having an off year at the plate?? Have you looked at his average? Sure, the power isn't there right now, but still. 869845 Off year at the plate?? have you looked at LOWELL's average? if you're going to say furcal just flat out sucks at the plate then you'll have to give lowell the same respect. everyone says lowell is having an off year (which he is) and so is furcal. and the power is there, he can easily hit 15 hrs this year which you can expect from him. 869849 Do you read? 869912 i thought you ment it as if i was understating his struggles at the plate.
-
Alex v other SS's
I answered correctly... you just didn't have him listed for some biased reason. 869916 i just threw the first 4 SS's that came to my mind that were worth being mentioned.

Dont look now but....
i go to school 3 hrs east of st louis and my best friends are huge cards fans. i've been to bush 4-5 times and love it more and more every time. i've already told my friends that if the cards and marlins meet in the playoffs we are camping out for tickets. they did it for world series tickets last year so i know they'll be with me this year.

one person has actully responded to the actual reason for this post; which SS would you take regardless of what team your root for and taking out the obvious choices of renteria and tejada. I think Furcal is one of the top 10 SS in this league. And I garuntee you I'm with the majority on this one. This is not a Alex Vs. the world debate (maybe i should have titled the post different. my bad on that one). I just wanted to see if anyone, given the oppertunity, would take another SS other than Alex putting team loyalty and fan bias aside. And what that other SS would bring to the table that Alex may not.
