10/1 Phillies vs. Marlins 1:05 PM EST
If there's anything MLB players do not want to do, it's extra innings in a meaningless game #162.

Sept. 28 meeting postponed - What's going on????
Can anyone shed some info on this matter. Does this add more fuel to the City of Miami Stadium front? Does anyone know the date on which MLB "forgives" $15 million of Loria's interest-free debt to MLB? five years after Loria took ownership. Which comes out to September of 2007. I'm pretty sure Loria took over in Feb 2002.

Tickets and events on fan appreciation day
Once again this year, I'lll be working with Nancy Olsen & MDA ("Jerry's Kids") on the Jersey Raffle. The prizes are game used, autographed Marlin jerseys. The players (prelim list) are: Amez, JoBo, Cabs, Jeremy, Jake, JJ, RickyN, Olivo, Olsen, HanRam, Anibal, Tank, Matt, Ugs, Hammer, & DTrain. Buy your raffle tix at every gate and 100, 200, 400 levels. $5 each, or 5 for $20. Winners will be announced after the top of the 8th. Good luck to all - buy tickets and contribute to a great cause.

Marlins Marketing
They DO give away tickets, like at school events where an actual player goes to see the kids. Also, QAM and even 790 give away tix all the time, both on-air and at appearances (like the Big O at Kendall Toyota nearly every Staurday).

Who's fault was it why we did not make the playoffs in 2005?
Where is the "why didn't we make the playoffs in 1996 poll?" 1996 - best slogan ever - "Locked Cocked and Ready"

Miami Arena owner sues to stop sale
I'd hesitate to say they both "want to bring in the Marlins". That could easily be posturing by Straub - just because he's basically doubled his money in two years deosn't mean he's done or satisfied. I would say they both want to "maximize their profit on the transaction". It's the American Way (cue Pink Floyd's "Money").

Saturday night's game
Berardino is possibly the worst local writer. He does pay attention, but has lost all contact with the team - they cut him off when Torborg was fired and he never regained any insider contacts. I think of him as Ken Rosenberg's local lap dog. Mike was OK up until he started a weekly show with Goldberg about 4 years ago. Fat Hank turned him against us, and he's been Debbie Downer ever since. Yeah, the Herald's writers are not so great, but occasionally Cote (or even DLB) will write a fair, balanced, positive piece. Bob Rubin used to be great, but he's long gone.

The Cro Fired
Cro is awesome. He brought enthusiasm to the table every single time. Knows the game from the inside. I, for one, will miss his show.

Arguing Calls
You don't argue for the play just called - you just want the ump to know he better not blow the next one. I think Joe under-argues. I even though he might've even been napping on a few back in May.

It's Cowbell Night at Tropicana Field
I like that idea - only those wearing Rays gear got a give-a-way. That should be done at DS too, especially during Mets/Yankees/Cubs/etc series'. Give the prizes to the loyal locals wearing at least one item with Marlins logo, not the "opponents". Screw 'em if they don't like it - they're not on our side!

Cookie Rojas to do color commentary Fri,Sat,Sun
Rojas is, of course, the Marlins manager with the all-time best winning percentage. Also loved him as our 3B coach in the early years - Mr. Windmill!

Off day discussion - Girardi next year
First of all, I want Joe here. But, if he wants out, you've really gotta let him go. The 3 year deal was a smart play by Loria - it would give us leverage to "trade" him for a top-level MLB-ready player or two - Pie anyone?

Check this article out
This is a time-honored tradition at ballparks all across this great land. I'm not saying it's right, mind you, just that it happens, especially on a hot weekday afternoon.

Speaking of grand slams, did you know obscure pitcher Tony Cloninger (Braves, circa 1968) hit two in one game?

tonights crowd
I went Saturday night - third row Sec 449. My observation was that Marlins dressed fans outnumbered Sawx about 3 to 1. Surprisingly, the Yanks were next, about 1/3 of Sawx. Sawx fans make about 3X the noise of Marlins fans. So, noise-wise, it was about equal. Almost everyone stayed for the blowout, to watch the excellent fireworks. Sawx fans were not abusive or over-celebratory. Everybody got along real well. I did wish I had made up a sign that said "2 Rings - 97 & 03", just for the enjoyment of our rivals.

Burgess will not leave County
GB is a career MD employee - not like Shiver and some of the others who were political appointees. He is still relatively young (50ish) - and MD has an excellent retirement program, which he will qualify for in a few years. I say he stays to finish the stadium and a few other pet projects. He's a solid guy and a credit to the community.

Key For Fish vs 3 Games Home Series Bos
Block out the (unfortunate) pro-Sawx crowd and just play the game the right way.

Ladies Night
About 5:55. The XLs were gone. Plenty of Ls & Ms were still left.

Ladies Night
So far this year, the first 100 females get a free Marlins T shirt. They are pretty nice - my wife got a Vargas (pink) in May and a Willingham (yellow) in June. The players name & number is across the back. Men can attend, but can't get a shirt (wouldn't want one - it says "Ladies Night" below the Marlins logo on the front). Also, there's a free raffle (one winner gets to toss the first pitch).
