  1. 6 words - Mike Lowell Preston Wilson Charles Johnson All were thought to be franchise guys when they got their mega-deals, and all underperformed.
  2. Rich and Tommy really look like a couple of dweebs in those matching shirts. GO Fish - let's win this series today!
  3. Damn if they get ST Games in Homestead that sucks for me. That's what people in Homestead and Cutler Ridge have been saying since the Marlins started playing 50 miles north of them in 1993. I'm sure they won't cry for you. Amen. I live in Homestead and I'll be f***ing happy if they come down here. I can actually get to watch some games. I only live about 5 minutes from the stadium too. You know how much of a bitch it is to go to a Marlins games? Even if it's just Spring Training, I'll be happy that I can watch my Fish more than once a year. None of you people who live in Miami or more North of that will get my sympathy. It's about damn time we got something other than some races and a stupid ass Rodeo. No way would the Marlins locate all ST in Homestead - opponents would just not come so far for one game. I could see the Marlins playing maybe a ST series in Homestead, as a "payback" for county funding of the new ballpark. Would have to be sure the field and stands were up to ST "standards" - no rocks, cut grass, good concessions, adequate lodging and clubhouses. Consider - the Red Sox come in for a 3 game set March 10-12. WOW - what a coup that would be. I guarantee people from South Dade would come out.
  4. I'd like to see that 3B we drafted out of Miss State last year (?) move up. Coughlin or something like that. What are his MiLB stats?
  5. Was it a bad play? Pro - Yes. It was a rally-killer. Should have stayed at 2B and extended the inning. Con - No. He drew the throw to allow the run to score. He sacrificed himself for the run. Pro - But he was almost tagged out before the run scored. Bad baserunning. Con - He also distracted Harris, who is an inexperienced LF. Pro - He was a dead duck at 3B. No way he makes it on a hard hit ball to LF. Discuss.........
  6. Another thought that I had when reading this was the price mentioned as the cost of this stadium. 450 million, for a 32000 seat stadium, with no roof, in Fremont. And we're led to believe that 490 million is an accurate figure for a stadium 20% larger, with a roof, in Miami. I can sign off on the 33K, with the proviso that walkways and SRO would accomodate 36-38K for big games (WS, All-Star, Jankees, etc.......). Including fire-law clearance.
  7. Why not trade him to a team in the NL if they are willling to overpay? Dontrelle hasn't been dominating to any extent since 2005. I've never really understood the "never trade within your division" mindset. The reasonings have no ground at all. I spoke with Beinfest on a call-in show about 2 years ago and asked him directly if he would take "a little less" to trade outside the NL East. LB was uequivicable, saying that he would always seek max return, even if it means trading within the division. He's done it several times (Carlos/Paul to NYM, Cliffy to MTL, Hampton to ATL to name just a few).
  8. I can help, since I always bike to the stadium. I live just off Exit 49 of the Turnpike, and it's a 30-35 minute ride for me (not on the Turnpike of course... ). There is a place to park and lock bikes at the stadium; it's just outside of Gate H. There's no charge for parking for bicyclists. jm - are you the guy with the Beatles shirts? I know Mr. Beatle always bikes in.
  9. So I get home with the wife from running MDay errands, expecting to kick back & tune into the game at 2:20. Well, FSN Forida is snow on cable channel 46. Anybode else on Comcast South getting the game??? AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH -
  10. Vargas was horrible all last year - He was good in '05 (and as a bonus could rake).
  11. I actually like 145/146 better than 149/150. While the latter are directly behing HP, there's a big screen that's annoying (at least to me). I feel the game better with an unobstructed view. You can move about freely until 30 minutes before first pitch. Go out to RF bleachers and maybe catch a long ball. Or hang by the dugouts for autographs.
  12. I'm not so sure keeping the over-weight diva is a better idea than keeping the all-effort, all-the-time, all-community guy.
  13. Did anyone see a letter offering Police tickets to STHs? Field seats $250 103-144 $110 Club Level $95 Not sure if this is an advance offer, or a break from regular prices. Anyone in? Bueller ??
  14. & 11-31 = .262 (sorry - had to do it)
  15. I've sat in BB several times. It is amazing - you are closer to the batter than the pitcher (50' vs 60.5'). Got autos from LaRussa, Renteria, Leyland, & Eric Davis there. The BB advantage is really that you can get access to both teams. I think FF are down the lines, so really you only get one team. Whatever you do, get there as early as possible and go straight to your seats. The players basically disappear about 45 minutes before first pitch. You can also pick up on conversations between the players & coaches - but be sure you're not afraid of a bunch of off-color words/phrases/jokes.
  16. While I hope we do well - Tomko = Moyer Gotta get him early - bunt him silly - make him work -
  17. Back in the day, the favorite sports hangouts were - Purple Porpoise Joe's Deli Orange & Brew Great Southern Music Hall The Rat Any of those places still around?
  18. Unfortunately, Ks are like empty calories - They don't move runners, and they don't drive in runs (like a SF or a squeeze) - I can see all the Ks I want by cueing up my old PDub memories from 2000 - Now THAT guy knew how to K........
  19. I'd like to see them try $2 night, but it could be very bad news if only 500 extra fans showed up. Kind of a negative message to local politicians. As far as Sunday goes, I'm convinced the 1:00 start time is a MLB mandate. Otherwise, you bump into the inevitable 4:00 thunderstorms, and the visiting team (and Marlins on get-away day) can't fly out until after 10 PM on the only real day an early flight is workable (assuming a 1:00 first pitch). Of course, this would all change if we had a new ........
  20. Is Wiley still available? How about Rosenthal? Wiley is a special assistant to the GM in Colorado, but he is at every Marlins game Would he come back if we offered? And would Colorado have to release him from his contract? I dunno, he seems pretty happy with his gig So, what is his gig? Hanging at JRS while on Rockies payroll? What exactly does he do for them?
  21. AS with any top-tier pitcher, my key to victory are - Bunt him to death - make him run If he's mowing us down around inning 6, make sure he gets on base & cooks out there in the heat Go Marlins!
  22. Blaming Owens for the 6th run would be mean. I don't blame Hemry for those bloop hits, but I do blame him for not backing up Cabs. Run 6 should not have scored on that play. he was backing up cabs....he was at the correct angle for amezagas throw but the ball hit the runner and went to his left...bad luck I was there, and I disagree. If Owens was even close to where he was supposed to be, why was it that Cabs ended up with the ball after the runner crashed into him? I maintain that Owens was badly out of position. He will learn from this, but he is accountable this time.
  23. Blaming Owens for the 6th run would be mean. I don't blame Hemry for those bloop hits, but I do blame him for not backing up Cabs. Run 6 should not have scored on that play.
  24. I keep remembering how lost Luis Castillo looked in 1996. And he turned out OK. I'm not saying Eric will turn into Luis, but different players do mature at different rates. Assuming other skills are above average, age 26/27 is about when you give up on a hitter.
  25. Moyer is the 2007 version of Denny Neagle. Junk, junk, & more junk. But it works.............. especially against the Fish. Maybe a little bunting to make him run / field his position.
