Who Should Be Our Ace For Next Year?

Featured Replies

Brian Moehler is due for a breakout year, guys. Seriously. He should be completely recovered from his Tommy John surgery next year and will be the comeback story of the year. I know most of you think I'm kidding, but whatever. He's got the psychological makeup to be an ace, and he will have the ability to go with it. Big surprise- you will see.

Agree. What people don't realize is that Moehler has an IQ of 165. That is by far the highest of the staff.

With that kind of intelligence combined with the makeup that a Brian Moehler has, you can easily compare him to a Greg Maddux type pitcher. Using common sense you can see that next year is Moehler's breakout year. He will be 35 in 07. Maddux at age 35 put up this line -

16-6

2.62 ERA

0.9 Whip

Moehler will be Cy Young in 2007. I voted other.

Did you just compare Greg Maddux and Brian Moehler?

:lol

sarcasm.

I actually didn't even read that post, I just saw the names Brian Moehler and Greg Maddux in the same parapraph and became outraged. Now that I actually READ it, the sarcasm has become quite evident. Thank you for that.

You can count on Johnson to keep you in a game even on a day he doesn't have his best stuff.

The same can't be said about D-train.

I love this guy

:lol the sad part is he's dead serious.

:plain

My long lost brother, finally I found you! :)

I heard that Moehler has an IQ of 280. When he pitches, he can estimate the bat speed of an opposing batter by observing the weight of the bat and referencing it to the speed of his pitch. When he's bored, he takes out all the prime numbers that are factors of the bat speed figure, then multiplies them by eachother. He then takes that number and divides it by the attendance of the stadium.

Of course he does this all before the homerun leaves the ballpark. He's just that smart.

I also saw him float a baseball across the clubhouse with his mind. Dude is due.

Dontrelle Willis, barring trade, will be the opening day starter next year.

LMAO at all these kids who glorify Johnson's one (not even one) season of great pitching. This guy has absolutely no track record and we don't know if he'll crash next year. That's why there is a next year--to gauge his (and other sophomore's) ability. THEN you trade them to the Yankees.

The Marlins Ace Next Year will be....

Zito, with Preston Wilson Roaming Centerfield next year.

I got money on Loria opening his wallet a 10 million to make his ballclub a legitimate contender.

D-Train. He seems to go on and off each season, and next year that makes him due for another big year.

But that's not the reason - he is still the anchor and seems like the leader of the team. I think JJ is fantastic and the most consistent guy on the squad, but I don't think your opening day starter should be someone who hasn't even pitched an entire season as a starter at the MLB level. Make him the #2 guy, and I think it's just as good. If D-Train can relax a little more and be less wild next season, him and JJ back to back would be insane.

Go with the career numbers. And even if D-train has struggled this year, just remember that players do have off years. Just look at how Mike Lowell has come back this year.

Am I the only one who finds this post beyond stupid? What does it even mean. Are you asking who will start Opening Day...because even that has no real significance. The "ace" works itself out as the season progresses. The only real time a staff is truly ranked is prior to the start of the playoffs.

Were John Smoltz or Tom Glavine no longer "Aces" if Greg Maddux started opening day. I realize an active message board is difficult to maintain over the course of a long baseball season. But surely we can think of more intelligent things to disucss then who will be our "Ace" next year.

Who will be our most clutch hitter next year?

Youth ages, immaturity is outgrown, ignorance can be educated, and drunkenness sobered, but being a Marlins fan with optimism and nothing to show for it lasts forever
