Posted June 6, 200717 yr We are now only 4 losses behind atlanta. Josh Johnson is on his way back in about 2 weeks. And we have 15 of the next 21 games at home. The 6 road games are at kc and at the white sox, both who have losing records. Mike Jacobs could be back at the end of the month as well. I think we have a chance to get right back in the mix.

June 6, 200717 yr Atlanta was a great series, no doubt. Beating them says a lot more than sweeping the Cubs. Let's hope they can keep winning and don't have any more stumbling block series like the Brewers series.

June 6, 200717 yr To make the playoffs we'll have to win the WC because we're not catching the Mets. I wouldn't worry too much about the Braves and Phillies. I think the WC will probably be one of the NL west teams. The Phillies willl win 85 or so games and the Braves will have to score a ton to win and Chipper will be out several weeks and that's a death blow to that team.
June 6, 200717 yr If this road trip has proven nothing else, its how resilient this team (and inconsistent) can be. After being swept by the Mets, they come back to sweep the Cubs and then lose 3 out of 4 to the Brewers only to win 3 out of 4 from the Braves. I think that once JJ gets back and can get back to having a healthy starting five, we should hopefully start seeing more consistent play from this team. But yeah, things are looking up.

I don't think we will catch the Mets, but given how many times we play them never say never. I know they have pitched very well so far (at times) but I still don't trust that guys like Sosa are going to continue to get them wins. Also when Pedro gets back who knows how well he will pitch, he could completely implode (and it wouldnt surprise me) Very very unlikely, but not impossible IMO.

Wild Card is just fine for me. The west teams have good records right now, but they will all be playing eachother.

June 7, 200717 yr marlins always play outstanding baseball at home right around the time of year interleague says hello
June 7, 200717 yr Just imagine how much better this team would be with an actual catcher as well. and imagine a sweet hitting centerfielder as well who can be a top of the order catalyst. or hey how about an inexpensive stud top of the rotation guy, say hmmm ... Jake Peavy or Johan Santana or how about BOTH!!! OH mY g@wD DiD u KnwO WE haD JOHAN LOLZ
June 7, 200717 yr Just imagine how much better this team would be with an actual catcher as well. No doubt man. I know he isn't the best option but I would love to see Mr May get more looks. At least he puts together more quality AB's.
June 7, 200717 yr Olivo got 3 hits the whole road trip, i think 2 of them came in the Brewers series i believe. he continues to be way too agressive and instead of adjusting he is just playing into the hand of the opposition. its one thing if ur giving us quality AB's its another if ur going up there with a mindset of swinging at anything that comes out of the pitchers hand. i rather have Treanor go play everyday for right now, at least u know he will give u a better at bat and very solid Defense behind the plate.

Yea Treanor needs to be seeing more time. Better defence, makes contact, and can DRAW A WALK.
June 7, 200717 yr I say this in a half joking manner, because it probably wont happen but at the same time wouldnt surprise me... Olivo is the one player in MLB that wouldnt surprise me if he swung when a pitcher was checking a guy at 1st.

June 7, 200717 yr Olivo actually got off to a pretty good start this year with the majority of his RBI coming early
June 7, 200717 yr think I mentioned it in the game thread, but he has the lowest on-base % of any player in the entire NL with enough at-bats to qualify for stats. And he's second to lowest in the majors. Granted, batting 7th or 8th you don't need a great on-base %, but we're getting down to the .250 range which is just terrible. He's not hitting the occasional home run either.
June 7, 200717 yr the chickenman is pleased with how the team is doing. Can't wait to have Josh Johnson back.
June 7, 200717 yr I believe we're the top team in the NL in runs scored. I think we're fine offensively. We just need better starting pitching, which is actually starting to come around a bit.
June 7, 200717 yr Yes, the team has looked good. I think we need to give Olivo Friday off, that way he gets extra rest. He's really been struggling at the plate. The Marlins would be closer to the Mets if they didn't lose all those games due to rookie mistakes.
