Nolasco is just a stud

Featured Replies

Definitely had all three pitches working tonight, and when that happens he is nearly unhittable. Nolasco IMO is the key to the season. If he can pitch well all season, we have a shot at this.

Nolasco can be really good when he has command of his pitches. You saw that tonight.

What I really like is that he threw a bunch of fastballs early, and the second and third times through the line up he started to mix in the breaking stuff more and Arizona was looking fastball by then.

Incase you were wondering, Baseball Tonight was unaware that Ricky pitched. I know this because they didn't show him once.

Now that is just messed up! No love for our Marlins

I can't believe Baseball Tonight. Webb loses and they're still enamored with him. Why not let the world know how well the Marlins battled against him. Gave him his first lose.

But no, Webb gets the special segment. We get a, "Who the hell is Nolasco?" brief discussion.

Anyways, great game. Hoping for the sweep tomorrow. ^_^

"Who the hell is Nolasco " is justified for now. :mischief

I saw it and I wasn't going to comment but I'm glad someone else did.

Hopefully they saw it in the clubhouse.

The chip just grows bigger.

Ricky was a stud for today but i've wanted to strangle him more often than not this year. ESPN should have shown some of his highlights but we all know they suck and have to snub our guys on a daily basis. Don't worry, when our team is in the playoffs they'll be forced to show our highlights and talk about how they knew our guys would make it that far all along.

Incase anyone is wondering, Nolasco also got snubbed on SportsCenter. They did mention him though, saying that he out-dueled Webb.

Yes! Nolasco was just crazy today, when he's on, he's got amazing stuff. That uncle-charlie is FILTHY!!!! LETS KEEP IT ROLLING BOYS!! SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!

A lot of this has to do with Treanor, mind you.

It amazes me how Treanor RARELY gets credit for his game-calling on this board, and in general.

Why? It's not as though we haven't had good pitching performances with Rabelo behind the plate.

There was already a thread about this. We've won more games when Treanor starts than when Rabelo does. Treanor's Catcher ERA is also lower than Rabelo's, which simply means that our pitchers put up better performances when Treanor starts.

I was talking to bobbob about this before, and while we both agree that CERA is a terrible stat, due to everything that is out of the catcher's control, we also agreed that there might be something to this Treanor vs Rabelo thing after looking closer to the games that were called.

I'm not sure if it's Treanor is responsible for the better games or not, but the fact is that we have pitched better when he starts. I've felt that the games have been called better by Treanor than Rabelo.

Check out the difference in ERA's when Treanor catches.

Andrew Miller's turnaround in May...basically, every game has been caught by Treanor.

As well as Andrew Miller's outings in April when Rabelo started the season on the DL? Or do we not want to talk about those?

Yes, Treanor has a lower CERA, with 2 more starts this year. If anyone wants to, I'd like to see the breakdown between them by pitchers. After all, the idea that you'll have a lower CERA if you catch Olsen and Hendrickson more shouldn't seem too farfetched.

Did they even know it was Marlins vs D-Backs? I didn't see Baseball Tonight or SportsCenter but going by what everyone else on this board said, they only seemed to know that Brandon Webb pitched and lost.

I wonder if they're even aware who the first place team in the NL East is.

I think the key is Anibal and Volstad coming in and throwing bullets in July. Ricky is Ricky. He's going to end up in the pen soon even if there is the occasional dominating start.

Don't forget Ryan Tucker. At this point you have to say he has passed Volstad as our best pitching prospect (I am extremely high on Volstad). And yea, Ricky is Ricky, but what I meant was...if a Ricky Nolasco can find a groove, be somewhat consistent as a starter and mix in dominant starts like tonight, that is the key. We can be a dangerous team if that happens.

There is no doubt in my mind that Treanor should be the starting catcher for this team. He is a complete defensive catcher but his offensive game, while it will never be anything to write home about, has been much improved.
