March 26, 200917 yr We already have Amezaga and Bonifacio, we don't need Andino anymore. I would like that trade if it happened.
March 26, 200917 yr What am I missing here? It seems both Koronka and Meyer have been solid out of the pen this spring. Why wouldn't both of them be good fits in the pen. Actually, Pinto scares me the most because he is capable of entering a game and walking a bunch of people.
March 26, 200917 yr In Beinfest we trust! I like Paulino if we can get him for Andino or some minor league pitcher thats fine I am ok with Rabelo right now anyway. I don't see Ohman happening at all. Meyer is perfect for our bullpen. I don't know how they gonna fit in Koronka

March 27, 200917 yr I don't see what part Andino plays in this really other than the two were once linked in a story somewhere. The Phillies have a much more seasoned utility-role player in Pablo Ozuna and if they don't have room for Paulino he may just get cut or (not knowing his options status) sent unhappily back to the minors. Andino's options issue doesn't disappear if he went to Philadelphia, they are in the same carry him or cut him position the Marlins are. I thought Paulino was an interesting look-see guy earlier in the off-season but has really underachieved this ST. There's the constant snide comments about his playing shape and attitude that I don't know how credible they are but do cast suspicion too. Rabelo been used sparingly this spring, I don't know if he's injured or playing regularly in the minor league camp (which is what I hope is happening) but he certainly hasn't been a failure this spring either. If he's injured or recovering slowly that's one thing, but nothing Paulino has done in 2009 appears to put him a notch above Rabelo. When you can't beat out Chris Coste for a job your value at the major league level has to be somewhat limited.

So as excited as I was about the Paulino trade at first, there are concerns here. Anyhow, to be in the position to be able to sign a Paulino type player this late in ST is somewhat exciting. Again, increasing the faith I have in this FO in getting things done for our team.
March 27, 200917 yr Koronka got roughed up today. I hope they go out and get Ohman this upcoming week, it could make a world of difference. Paulino would be icing on the cake.

Couldnt agree with you more man, Im hoping Ohman settles for like 1 Mil plus incentive type deal... Not sure if the Marlins would even offer that to him... hes looking for 2 mil so I not sure if that type of deal is possible... Ronny for Andino would be sick!
March 27, 200917 yr Not that I wouldn't be surprised if the Fish went looking for relief help by gee aren't we overreacting a bit with Koronka, who until today had appeared in six games and the same number of inning, yielding a single run in those appearances? His ERA after today is still 3.86. I don't know that I'm ready to write him off quite yet.

Both would probably slip through waivers though and be reassigned to AAA, so it's no big deal. But still. We need some better options. --- Can't you just wait for next year, when this is our problem. SP - Johnson, Nolasco, Volstad, Miller, and West, Thompson, Vanden Hurk, Trahern, Sinkbiel, G. Taylor, Winters, and Allison fighting for the 5th (ditching Anibal for salary reasons) RP - Lindstrom, Nunez, and Tucker, Ceda, Owens, Leroux, C. Martinez, Wood, Badenhop, random FA arms, and all the SP above fighting for the bullpen (ditching Kensing, Pinto, Calero, and Proctor for salary). 1 year and this shenanigans ends. The stockpile finally becomes MLB ready. That is 21 legit arms we already have in the organization that will be at the AAA level or higher by 2010. And this isn't including whatever we get back in moving at least 5 of Uggla, Anibal, Amezaga, Ross, Hermida, Cantu, McPherson, and some of the relievers.

And this isn't including whatever we get back in moving at least 5 of Uggla, Anibal, Amezaga, Ross, Hermida, Cantu, McPherson, and some of the relievers. This is all very good for the future of the team. And maybe the best part is that we don't have to freak out about having a similar stockpile 2-3 years behind these guys. Why? Because with the stadium coming in 2012, we can afford to keep some of the guys who we'd like to hang onto, at least during arbitration years. Also, if our positional prospects pan out anywhere near what's expected, we'll be stocked at the ML level for a nice handful of years. And, because of that we can just totally load up on sick pitching prospects in those trades to either bail out injuries, or maybe even pass by a couple of these talented arms and earn a spot on the ML club down the line. At this point, I feel like at most positions, we shouldn't even be trading for low-ceiling talent. This might be a bit reckless, but with Maybin, Stanton, Raynor, Cousins, Petersen; Gaby, LoMo, CC, HanRam, DoMing; Bake and Skipworth - we have really good position depth with a lot of guys who look like they will be good to very good (or great). Even if a guy like Stanton doesn't become great, he should still be decent, and I'm not sure why we'd want more guys like that, except for "organizational depth." But most guys would be totally blocked at just about any position on the field on this team. Maybe if we traded for a 3B who's already at AA/AAA he could play before DoMing, or a right-handed catcher to back-up Bake until Skip is ready (FTR this is the position where I'm the most nervous about quality MiLB depth). But, unless you're elite, you're 100% blocked in CF, RF, SS, and 1B. And 2B is stocked pretty well between CC and EB. And in LF, between Raynor/Cousins/Petersen/Hermida, we are a near-lock to have a quality ML-player there over the next couple of years. So, basically, 3B for the next couple of years, and right-handed C for the next few. And that's it. Otherwise, you have to be an elite prospect to have any realistic chance of starting for this team. And with the bench, assuming 4 spots available aside from the backup C: 1. 2nd best of Raynor/Cousins/Peterson/[eventually] Galloway, or even Jai if he can put it together 2. CC/EB, whoever's not starting 3. 1B/3B - Gaby? 4. Additional utility man Out of those 4 spots - you have to be a very solid prospect to crack either of the first 2. #3 may be competing against a solid Gaby Sanchez. I'm not sure off the top of head about the exact organization depth as per filling spots #3 and #4, but, I mean, that's slim picking for potential position prospects we might pick up in trade or the draft. I guess we could target an upper-level 3B/1B, and a righty catcher, and maybe another utility type, but wow, there's not too much reason to trade for anything other than pitching. And, oh yeah, we have a ton of that already. P.S. That's why I wanted Max Ramirez so badly - he fits the right catcher to split time with Baker, while also being a 3B to bridge the gap to and provide insurance for DoMing, not to mention killer power off the bench, while also pushing Gaby/McDallas at the corners for playing time.
March 28, 200917 yr Phillies traded him to the Giants for Jack Taschner. The good news to be taken out of that is that it's one less team in the Ohman huntings.

March 28, 200917 yr I knew getting Paulino fron Giants was a possibility since they are set at C. Great pick up for us.
March 28, 200917 yr Author Giants acquired RHP Hector Correa from the Marlins for catcher Ronny Paulino. Correa, a 2006 fourth-round pick, emerged as one of the Marlins' better prospects in 2007, only to miss most of 2008 with shoulder issues. That this essentially boils down to Jack Taschner for Correa makes it a good trade for the Giants. Correa is still a legitimate prospect, albeit one with probably no more than a 20 percent chance of making a real impact in the majors, and Taschner is someone who could have been non-tendered back in December. Correa will likely start his Giants career at low-A Augusta. Rotoworld
March 28, 200917 yr Our catching scenario has changed significantly. Paulino can catch and has the ability to provide a bat off the bench
March 28, 200917 yr Author Marlins acquired catcher Ronny Paulino from the Giants for RHP Hector Correa. Now we're talking. Paulino may have been an upgrade over Steve Holm for the Giants, but it wasn't going to make much of a difference. He's a much, much better fit for the Marlins, who originally attempted to acquire him back in December. Paulino has been terrific against lefties throughout his career, and the Marlins just happen to have a left-handed-hitting starter in John Baker. A platoon of the two could end up being quite productive. Mike Rabelo and Brett Hayes figure to end up in Triple-A now. More Rotoworld. And they shockingly get it right for once. Baker vs RHP .327/.417/.487 (.904) Paulino vs LHP .355/.417/.498 (.915) Marlins catchers 2008 (and this includes Baker) .251/.323/.340 (.664) These guys are going to sleepwalk a 100 OPS upgrade over 600 PA. Let alone their potential to do some serious damage on top of that.
