I hate Loria

IMO the location is sh*t for Marlin Stadium they're going to average less fans then they do now its in the middle of the ghetto and to far for anyone to drive to If Loria had half a brain he would have put the stadium next to the hockey arena in sunrise and created a whole sports complex with shared parking and it would be more centrally located and it would create more revenue for the sawgrass mills mall but the people behind the deal are F ing idiots

So Sunrise and Broward were going to pony up the cash?

I've had to hear people like you complain about this thing for over a decade now....GIVE IT UP!

This arguement is pointless. Broward wasn't willing to partner with the Marlins...Dade was.

Living in Palm Beach County, the OB location isn't ideal for me either, but the OB site is a hell of a lot closer then San Antonio or Las Vegas.

As for hating Loria....why? He is has been the most successful owner we have had. His teams are almost always very competitive on the field and he is the only guy that stood by this franchise long enough to complete a stadium deal and save baseball in South Florida. You may not like the business model he has put in place, but he has done a lot of great things for the Marlins over the years.

Southbound traffic from Broward to Dade for a 7pm Game= MINIMAL REGULAR STADIUM TRAFFIC.

Northbound traffic from Dade to Broward for a 7pm Game= DAILY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC.

If the stadium were built in that location, the team would basically be inviting all Dade County fans to keep watching from home. It's been studied several times and a majority of Marlins fans live in Dade County.

Is the drive going to be a bit longer for Broward fans? Yes. Just be grateful that the traffic you are going to have to deal with is regular stadium traffic, and not the daily rush hour out of downtown...

Panthers' Attendance figures have shown that fans will not make that trek unless the team is succeeding. While you can use the same argument for Dade fans in the OB location, it still remains that the Marlins are almost guaranteed a good number of walk-ups given its location in the middle of baseball-loving Little Havana. Chances are they will draw more, even if not performing well, at the OB than in Sunrise...

I'm going to start with this one... Why the should Loria give a flying frick if Sawgrass Mills gets more revenue?

Second one, how are the people behind the deal (Loria, Miami, Miami-Dade) "F ing idiots" for not building a stadium outside of Miami-Dade?

Third one: Most Marlins fans live in Miami-Dade. How is that too far for most of them to drive?

Fourth. Little Havana is not a ghetto. You know what is a ghetto? Miami Gardens, where Dolphin Stadium is located. Most ballparks are located in low income neighborhoods, because people with nicer neighborhoods would freak if the city was trying to build a stadium near their houses, as it would kill the value.

Fifth point; Sunrise is not centrally located. It only is in theory, assuming that the population is spread out evenly amongst SoFla. It's not.

And finally, 6) No one in Broward wanted to pay for a stadium.

Good day sir.

I SAID GOOD DAY!

It is kind of funny all these people who are critical of the location tended to people who were against the stadium . Maybe there were better locations but none of the better locations were options. The OB was the best option and I am glad the stadium will be built there .

have you taken a look around the area that Dolphins Stadium is located? It's not coral gables. it's miami gardens.

Loria has been the best owner this team has. Huizenga broke up the 97 team for no reason and signed us to the horrible deal we have now with the current stadium. Henry tried to build a stadium but left when it got too hard. Loria has been saying since day one that he wanted a stadium and he got one. he signed pudge in 2003 and we won the world series. he signed Delgado (largest Marlin contract at the time) in 2005 and unfortunately we choked. after '05 he was fed up with paying high amounts in the players and not recieving much money back in the revenue so he cut the payroll, which btw was not a bad decision. look at the players we've recieved in return. and now Loria has accomplished what Huizenga and Henry said they would do but didn't have the guts to actually do it.

Not a ghetto-lower income does not equal ghetto which implies dangerous to go to. Secondly, you received more respect and responses than you deserve-SO GO AWAY.

Also, Braman just sued Wild Card or something...

The lawsuit was thrown out because his lawyers failed to go through the chair.

He has filed an appeal.

I laugh at those that continue to deliberate the location of the stadium. I live within five minutes of Dolphin Stadium and usually attend games in the spur of the moment. The O.B. site will now be farther away from me, but you know what; my team has a HOME!! I am guaranteed that baseball will exist here for the next 40+ years. I true fan will enjoy baseball in any location within reasonable driving distance and Little Havana is not that bad compared many other neighborhoods.

I would like to know where the topic creator lives. With his/her worry about being near the BAC/ODC/NCRC/BCCA and the economic impact on Sawgrass Mills, I would guess Sunrise.

If that's true, this person could go f*** themselves, because, with traffic and all, I it takes me about an 50 minutes to drive from my house to the BAC to see the Panthers play and I don't bitch. From that direction to the Marlins Ballpark, it would take 40 minutes according to Google, which makes sense since there is no traffic in that direction during that time.

well played, *golf clap*

I agree with the OP that next to the hockey arena would've been the PERFECT place for the stadium. The problem was, Loria didn't want to pay for the stadium, and Broward wasn't willing to pay for it, so Loria went to Miami and they were willing to pay for the stadium. Not the ideal location imo, and the teams gonna lose a lot of people who used to go to the game from Broward. All the hardcore marlins fans are gonna go crazy saying "BUT AT LEAST WE HAVE A STADIUM AND I CAN SEEZ GAMEZ!!!!!", well, look at it from a realistic standpoint, from the people who don't go out and buy season tickets. The stadium will be in the middle of nonstop traffic, and once again will be in a terrible city with high crime rate.

and Rab, a large percentage of people who attend marlins games are from Broward, so yes they are losing a large income.

I once met an old man from little havana who used to catch several buses to make it to the Marlins games. He was saying how he couldn't wait to have the stadium that would just be a couple blocks distance from his home. I'm sure there are plenty of others that live in the same area that would be able to attend more games with the stadium right there. I know I'm going to get season tickets. Its not that far of a trek for me so I will be there. I would not spend any kind of money on season tickets for the current facility, except for now that there is priority involved with the new stadium tickets. I have to drive through some of the worst areas on my way to Dolphin Stadium. I can either waste more time and traffic getting around the bad areas, or just drive straight through them. I choose to drive through them to get to the stadium on time. For any Broward fan that drives down to Dolphin stadium to go to the games is obviously an avid fan. What's an extra 20 minutes on I-95 going to be? I used to work in Broward and get off of work at 6, and I would make it to and from work in 20 minutes, because the traffic was always going the opposite direction. I think this would allow fans from Dade to make the trip because it would be much closer in the north bound traffic of the late afternoons. Although the 836 does get real congested, I'm sure fans can find alternate routes.

Through the chair, I move to establish a country-wide "Rochambeau Brahman Day" and propose a bond measure to support the issue.
