This is still probably right, although both DeAza and Ryan were reassigned. Carroll might see some time just until Amezaga comes back, but I can't see him on the roster long-term. I think if we do have an injury to a starting OF, we might see Raynor, or maybe even Logan Morrison if it's later in the season and he's continued to hit. Not sure if that person would start or Gload would, though.

Catalanotto will surely be quick to land a bench job if released. April 1, 200917 yr Author Three posts in a row! Early Wednesday afternoon, the Marlins acquired Ross Gload and cash from the Royals for a player to be named. Adding Gload came shortly after Florida dealt infielder Robert Andino to the Orioles for right-handed pitcher Hayden Penn. floridamarlins.com So the Royals are paying part of his contract, which only makes sense. I really hope it's at least half (pending who we give up). They had such a logjam of talent at those positions, though, so they might not have had much leverage. Not to mention that Gload's not an amazing player, just decent.

April 1, 200917 yr this is a very weird move to make for the marlins. Im guessing the royals are picking up most of the salary... because if the marlins are, that would make no sense. Cant say im too excited about this, he's a decent player i guess. but i would rather have sheff/gonzalez/jenkins/caroll/gibbons/maybe even dallas over this guy. but sadly, none of those guys will be Marlins. (Caroll will spend most of his time in AAA)

He has been a starter throughout his career, but he will be popped into the bullpen these next few days and the Marlins will see if there's a fit. Penn worked closely with former Orioles pitching coach Mark Wiley and no doubt will be pleased to have a reunion. It was Wiley who, upon joining the Marlins for the 2005 season -- his first go-round with the organization -- who told Beinfest if he ever had a chance to acquire Penn, he should do it. April 1, 200917 yr honestly ive been saying this a lot but Jay Gibbons would have been perfect. Gload does play some solid first base and he does not strike out a lot. Look at his numbers and off the bench for the Royals he has been pretty good.

I'm cool with the deal and I doubt we gave up a top 30 minor league prospect.

And at that price he's expendable if either the roster spot is needed or he doesn't work out or whatever other scenario develops. (And not to turn this into another Dallas McPherson thread but since he's making $500k guaranteed which the Marlins are on the hook for, if (assuming someone does) he's picked up the acquiring team has to pick up roughly $400,000 of that so really we're dealing with very small numbers as the front office tries to better fit together the team the way they want it.)
April 1, 200917 yr I USED TO WATCH HIM EVERYDAY AT BREVARD COUNTY! THE GUY CAN FLAT RAKE AND WOULD BE AN ASSET TO EVEN THE YANKEES BENCH. I think he's in the Kevin Millar mold as a hitter. I like this Beinfest acquisition just as much as the Leo Nunez one. Good job!

April 2, 200917 yr well, our bench is currently extremely weak imo. Adding any kind of bat is helpful, and now we have a reliable 1st baseman who can come in and give Cantu a day off when needed (other than Helms)
