April 8, 200917 yr It's hard to really say at this point. It's too early I think to tell which would be better after we have seen great performances from both variations so far.
April 8, 200917 yr Neither. Maybin, Baker, Hanley, with Boni 9th. That said, we (and I hate to say this) should keep riding the hot hand until Boni's done.
April 8, 200917 yr the first. Baker is a nice line drive hitter who can work the count with occasional pop. He has more patience than Maybin which should help Emilio feel he can actually wait first his best opportunity to steal. It also helps the R-L-R pattern for the lineup. I want to wait until Maybin can prove he can hit for average or shows some better discipline, no need to rush him into the 2 hole.
April 8, 200917 yr Regardless of who bats leadoff, Baker has to be in the 2 hole. He showed why he deserves this on numerous occasions last season and twice in todays game by driving in the runner.
April 8, 200917 yr Boni, Baker, Hanley Baker 2 two out rbi's were huge. Got us back in the game. His patience allowed Boni to mess with the pitcher's mind and steal again. If Maybin is in the 8 hole he is primed to score from either Baker or Hanley at 2 and 3. Isn't it great to be discussing this after a sweep?
April 8, 200917 yr Author Maybin, Baker, Hanley. Neither. Maybin, Baker, Hanley, with Boni 9th. That said, we (and I hate to say this) should keep riding the hot hand until Boni's done. You guys really think Maybin is a leadoff hitter ?? He's just like a Hanley in my opinion. A 5 tool player that can hit for average and power. I just think batting him leadoff won't give him many RBI opportunities which we know he can drive in. Bonifacio is the prototypical leadoff hitter and if he can prove he is the real deal and keep things up, a combination of Bonifacio, Maybin, and Hanley is just deadly in my opinion.

Well, he's not going to get many RBI opportunities hitting 8th. And since Baker is like a perfect 2nd hitter, I don't want him hitting 2nd everyday. If they plan on hitting Bonifacio leadoff everyday, what they're doing now is fine. So long as Bonifacio stays on this little hot streak...Baker should hit 2nd against righties, while Maybin will hit 2nd against lefties. Paulino should get the bulk of the starts against LH pitching. With that said...I'm still not convinced Bonifacio is THE guy just b/c of ONE GREAT SERIES...a series where he can thank Lastings Milledge for it being greater than what it was, as well.
April 8, 200917 yr For now Boni Baker Hanley vs RHP Boni Maybin Hanely vs LHP Later in the season i would love to see Maybin Baker Hanley Cantu Uggla Hermida Cody Bonifacio Pitcher With all of them hiting well this is one of the best possible lineups in the Bigs I like Bonifacio in the 8 hole for the run production think about it if he leads off an inning once he gets on base he can steal 2nd then pitcher bunts him over to 3rd then then Maybin Baker or Hanley can drive him in.
April 8, 200917 yr Right now ill go with Boni bake hanley. Mostly because it it aint broke dont fix it. i hate maybin in the 8 hole but bakers great in the 2 hole so until/if Boni craps out like many think i say just go with boni bake hanley.
April 8, 200917 yr its common sense to have your 3rd basemen leadoff followed by your catcher in the #2 hole.

Bonifacio is the prototypical leadoff hitter and if he can prove he is the real deal and keep things up, a combination of Bonifacio, Maybin, and Hanley is just deadly in my opinion. He might not be your prototypical leadoff hitter, but he sure as hell is more a leadoff hitter than an 8 hitter. Erick basically said everything. Baker is WAY too good of a 2 hitter to take out of there. Bonifacio will most likely prove to be more of an 8 hitter than a leadoff hitter. That said, he shouldn't be moved back there until he proves me right. We're in the rare situation that we have a great lineup for a position player as the 9 hitter, especially if that 9 hitter is Bonifacio. He'd still be able to be on with the impact players up to bat, and we'd be giving more AB to the better player in Maybin. We wouldn't have to move Baker to the 8 spot, where his talents would go to waste and we wouldn't have to keep Maybin to the 8 spot, where his talents are going to waste.
April 8, 200917 yr I'm in agreement about Maybin batting eighth (I don't like because to me developmentally it isn't going to help him which is the same reason I think it's a mistake for EB) but I wonder if the answer isn't to move him up in the order to fifth or sixth when the two spot is occupied by Baker? Either after Cantu (Cantu, Maybin, Uggla or Cantu, Uggla, Maybin) then probably Hermida and Ross and 2nd when Paulino is catching. Hitting ahead of Hermida and Ross conceivably gets a man on for two guys who have the power to get him home with an extra base hit. I wouldn't be surprised to see Fredi afford the kid some protection in the lineup as long as Bonifacio keeps earning the leadoff spot. Purely speculation, just throwing it out there.
April 8, 200917 yr Well, yeah... Maybin's going to need some semblance of protection in the lineup soon, I think about 6th during Boner's hot streak is probably sufficient... I just wonder how long this will take to unfold, it's almost a certainty it's gonna happen eventually...
April 8, 200917 yr its common sense to have your 3rd basemen leadoff followed by your catcher in the #2 hole. haha, but thats what makes this so awesome. its working.
April 8, 200917 yr What Erick and Rab said. Ride the hot streak now, but when/if he goes on a cold streak and stays on a cold streak, put maybin at the leadoff spot.
April 8, 200917 yr So what happens if maybin takes over the lead off spot and sucks it up more than boni if boni does suck it up like many think. Do we just leave him there or what?
April 9, 200917 yr I'm in agreement about Maybin batting eighth (I don't like because to me developmentally it isn't going to help him which is the same reason I think it's a mistake for EB) but I wonder if the answer isn't to move him up in the order to fifth or sixth when the two spot is occupied by Baker? Well, moving Uggla back is even worse than moving Baker back. Uggla should be up a spot as it is.
April 9, 200917 yr So what happens if maybin takes over the lead off spot and sucks it up more than boni if boni does suck it up like many think. Do we just leave him there or what? Over the course of a season, there's a better chance of this happening to Bonifacio. At least for those who still think stats are relevant. Like me. If Maybin has a terrible cold streak...no I wouldn't hope Fredi keeps him there forever. That's part of the manager's job. The lineup won't stay the same all year, regardless.
April 9, 200917 yr BONI WILL NOT FOLD, BONI WILL BE THE MAN ALL YEAR! I hope man so far in the series Boni has filled the spot we have been missing since pierre, a leadoff hitter
April 9, 200917 yr Baker has been so unbelievable that the only thing I know is that he needs to be at the top of the line-up, and he fits best in the #2 hole. And Hanley cannot be any lower than #3, obviously. So the only question, in my mind, is Maybin/Boni at lead-off.
April 9, 200917 yr BONI WILL NOT FOLD, BONI WILL BE THE MAN ALL YEAR! I hope man so far in the series Boni has filled the spot we have been missing since pierre, a leadoff hitter Whoever the Marlins put to hit leadoff this year will not come close to the production Hanley has given as a leadoff hitter the past couple years. So I'm not sure what that means.
