I wanted to be the first this year to say it.

The only problem I have with Fredi is where he's batting Maybin. Maybin is no number two hitter, he is a leadoff or seven hole hitter. The two spot is for a thinking hitter and that definitly is not Maybin. If I were Fredi, I would move Sanchez to the two stop and Maybin to the seven.

No, if anyone should be fired it should be Randy St. Claire! He OBVIOUSLY caused those pitchers to make those throwing errors with his mechanical "fixing" ... :p

Yeah I dont understand that either... cant have a strikeout guy batting #2. especially one who has the attributes of a leadoff batter with his speed and base stealing abilities.

Ok, I know the OP was being sarcastic and I found it pretty funny. But are you really complaining about Fredi's decisions after 1 freaking game? Maybin had a solid spring, hitting .300 with a .364 OBP in only 50 AB's, which is roughly 12 full games. In 12 games, he hit 2 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR's, 7 RBI's and 7 runs scored. He also stole 3 bases. I don't know if you can get any closer to a 2 hole type player than that. Maybin faced Santana in NY on opening day, he probably had a few jitters, as it seemed evident in the rest of the Marlins team. He'll be fine. We have 161 games to go for crying out loud.

Like I have been saying......Watch those IF throwing errors pile up.

This looks like a good game to blame on Maybin. Let's see how long he stays the "whooping boy of the year" after teams start watching videos and pitchers start to adjust.

It only took 1 game for this thread to start

As far as I understand flsportsfan83 started this thread as a sarcastic one.

This season looks looong.

By the way, is Fredi going back to Atlanta in 2011?

Maybin is not going to ground into double plays, and I have every expectation that Maybin should be a 70-90 BB player as he matures.

Rationality not allowed ITT

I think the arguement is about flopping Cogz and Maybin. And when you consider Maybin hits substantially more ground balls than Coghlan does, I imagine the speed difference is voided to the point where Cogz might hit less.

It's fffffaaaaaarrrrr from being the best way because it takes so little into context, but for their MILB careers, Cogs averaged 8.3 GIDP per 600 PA and Maybin averaged 7.7.

Gaby averaged 14.1 per 600 PA, for reference as he was only other name brought up.

Right now, Maybin isn't a 1st or a 2nd hitter. There's not much Fredi can do about this. Maybin, simply, has to start hitting. And if he does start hitting, he should hit 1st, with Coghlan 2nd. Coghlan seems like the perfect 2nd hitter, especially considering that he'd get much better pitches to hit, with Hanley hitting 3rd, on this team.

At least for the time being Coghlan and Ramirez and to a lesser degree Cantu help insure Maybin's development. as a hitter by creating a cocoon around him in the lineup.

When Maybin gets to a point where he doesn't need to be so coddled, sliding Coghlan into the two hole makes a lot sense but right now what I think is they are doing everything they can to make the Cabrera trade work and if that means building a lineup that pushes Maybin's career in the right direction, so be it. Someday if everything works as planned Maybin will be doing the same thing for some other rookie (yeah, yeah I know he's not a pure rookie, it's meant as a figure of speech).

Agreed, good post.

let see if Maybin dont start slow again like last year he was send down quick after getting hurt and starting slow last year if i not mistaking was after national series first series of season

I appreciate the sarcasm in the tone of this thread, but in all reality someone needs to start a fire Jim Presley thread.

Do it yourself if you feel so strongly...

Before people start calling for freddy's job ask yourself 1) what is the next best alternative(s) 2) Atlanta wants Freddy to take over for Cox next year, Ask youself why? 3) Any manager in Freddy's current role has to use the players his dealt, and our ball club has Alot of young talent that still needs development. With development comes mistakes... (Hermida most recently)

Loria runs this ball club (definitly micromanages, example is Girardi's short time stent here and public arguments on how each wanted to run the club day-to-day) and has the final say in all major decisons so you would have to be naive to believe that Jeff has not already giving his blessing on the openning day roster/line up/ bullpen usage methodology.

Also want to point out that Loria knows baseball inside out, knowing it will never happen I like to see Loria take over as the skipper in the future (after freddy leaves willingly for a better opportunity, hopefully the Braves mgr.)

I agree with this. This is exactly what the Marlins are probably doing. Giving Maybin some protection so he can continue to develop. Hopefully it works.

How about passing on Jason Hayward to take Matt Dominguez in 2007 ? I think that might be the biggest mistake of the Loria reign.

How about the MLB draft is almost a complete crap shoot and 13 other teams passed on Heyward?

What about the other 12 teams that passed on him? What about the fact that Dominguez still figures to be an above-average major league starter, an outstanding result for ANY draft pick?

Please don't be another one of these posters.......

The pickup of Chris Coghlan earns Loria a "get out of jail free card" that offsets passing on heyward!

Why just stop there? Bury the entire franchise and convert that piece of land over at the Orange Bowl into a set of lovely apartment blocks!
