June 24, 201016 yr This further makes me question... how did we not make the playoffs in 2004? And I've gotta say... the FO is absolutely infatuated with him arent they? Hope for the best but prep for the worst!
June 24, 201016 yr This sounds more like a smart, Marlins signing. Say what you want about the cheapness, this is actually a cheap move that could work out. Benitez has had success at this level before, and he's been having success in the minors the past couple of years. It's a lot better than giving the Jorge Sosa's of the world a chance, as we have been doing.
June 24, 201016 yr Say, when's Ugueth Urbina's prison sentence up? 10 yaers, 5 with good behavior :lol Worth a shot!
June 24, 201016 yr Say, when's Ugueth Urbina's prison sentence up? The Marlins are actively filing motions for a temp release and to be sent back after October
June 24, 201016 yr Say, when's Ugueth Urbina's prison sentence up? The Marlins are actively filing motions for a temp release and to be sent back after October They might be willing, but we'd have to send them Logan Morrison in his stead.
June 24, 201016 yr Signing a 38 year old who hasn't pitched in the league for 2 years is not exactly my idea of bullpen help :banghead If anything he's NOLA depth but if he sucks I'm gonna be even further pissed that they released Pinto.
June 24, 201016 yr Next up is Jorge Julio? Hey calm down the current list of signings are has-beens, not wanna-bes!
June 24, 201016 yr While we're at it, why not bring back Todd Jones, Joe Borowski and Antonio Alfonseca?
June 24, 201016 yr I don't mind this move at all. Look, the team has been looking everywhere for quality relief help, but everyone has been asking for LoMo in return. Who here really wants to give up our future first baseman for a 7th inning guy?
June 24, 201016 yr i actually like the signing and he has always had great stuff. he did pretty well with us back in 2007 bar a few rough outings.
June 24, 201016 yr Let's do the time warp again! Let's see how he does in AAA. If he is serviceable, bring him up. Might as well keep the Wheel Of Torture, er, Fortune, spinning.
June 24, 201016 yr The Marlins re-discovered Benitez in the independent Atlantic League. In 17 games for the Newark Bears, Benitez had an ERA of 1.00, striking out 27 and walking four in 18 innings. He had six saves. Read more: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/fish_bytes/2010/06/marlins-sign-reliever-armando-benitez.html#ixzz0roIHKpR8

We've had some good luck in the minors with some of our signings filling holes created by guys being brought up or otherwise filling gaps in rosters. Welcome back Armando, I hope you turn some heads. I don't care what anyone else thinks but an ERA of 1.00 and 27 strikeouts in 18 innings is an impressive feat in any league, at any any level of the game. :thumbup
June 25, 201016 yr You have to give it to this front office, they try through all channels and are smarter than everyone else.
