Armando Benitez

This further makes me question... how did we not make the playoffs in 2004?

And I've gotta say... the FO is absolutely infatuated with him arent they? Hope for the best but prep for the worst!

This sounds more like a smart, Marlins signing. Say what you want about the cheapness, this is actually a cheap move that could work out. Benitez has had success at this level before, and he's been having success in the minors the past couple of years. It's a lot better than giving the Jorge Sosa's of the world a chance, as we have been doing.

Say, when's Ugueth Urbina's prison sentence up?

The Marlins are actively filing motions for a temp release and to be sent back after October

They might be willing, but we'd have to send them Logan Morrison in his stead.

Signing a 38 year old who hasn't pitched in the league for 2 years is not exactly my idea of bullpen help :banghead

If anything he's NOLA depth but if he sucks I'm gonna be even further pissed that they released Pinto.

While we're at it, why not bring back Todd Jones, Joe Borowski and Antonio Alfonseca?

I don't mind this move at all.

Look, the team has been looking everywhere for quality relief help, but everyone has been asking for LoMo in return. Who here really wants to give up our future first baseman for a 7th inning guy?

Let's do the time warp again!

Let's see how he does in AAA. If he is serviceable, bring him up. Might as well keep the Wheel Of Torture, er, Fortune, spinning.

The Marlins re-discovered Benitez in the independent Atlantic League. In 17 games for the Newark Bears, Benitez had an ERA of 1.00, striking out 27 and walking four in 18 innings. He had six saves.

I proudly admit my undying love for these independent leagues across America and guys playing the game for the love of it. We've had some good luck in the minors with some of our signings filling holes created by guys being brought up or otherwise filling gaps in rosters.

Welcome back Armando, I hope you turn some heads.

I don't care what anyone else thinks but an ERA of 1.00 and 27 strikeouts in 18 innings is an impressive feat in any league, at any any level of the game. :thumbup
