Chris Volstad

He really really sucks.............Please tell me why we cant stretch b. sanches out and then put him in the rotation for this scrub

Volstad has pitched fine for a number 4/5 starter. Tonight he was pretty bad but other than that hes been just fine.

I don't like having a pitcher like Volstad who is bound to have about 50% of his games ending up with him giving up (8 hits and 4 ER's or more) but as a 4 preferably 5 starter it's whatever.

This is his first poor start in like a month. Yes, his first 3 starts were ass, his past 7 have not been. He is a 24 year old #5 starter that is performing at a #4 starter level.

We can do better than him at some point

I don't think we can, to be honest. Well, unless we trade for someone.

Hes not pitching at a #4 or #5 level, he has a 5.9 ERA, hes pitching at a scrub mop up long reliever level. Meanwhile, Sanches is pitching great, has the ability to start, and has no significant role in the pen. Why not give it a try???

Volstad is a #5 at best, if Javi has good outings the rest of the season Volsucks games will be less important. I think Javi starting out so sh*tty puts more pressure on having another sh*tty pitcher like Volstad.

Off topic: So is there not going to be a post-game thread, cause I totally had a question...

Will I be able to watch John Buck try to say miccosukee anywhere else?

Do NOT start Sanches. He is a very good reliever, but he is NOT a starter. In fact, you could argue that the team is still feeling repercussions from that misguided spot start Edwin gave Sanches a couple of days ago. When Sanchez only went 3 innings, it forced Edwin to have the bullpen pitch 6 innings. Because of this, Edwin did not want to take Ricky out yesterday even though he was obviously being smacked around. When Edwin did go to the bullpen, he asked Cishek to throw several innings, which, combined with his appearance in the Sanches game, made him ineligible for tonight's game. Which meant that when both Dunn and Webb scuffled today, there was one fewer reliever to turn to (really two, since Sanches was still not able to pitch either). Dunn and Webb then wound up themselves throwing many more pitches then they otherwise would have.

No more Sanches spot starts. He is not a starter. He has never been a starter. There is absolutely no chance that you can expect more than a couple of effective innings from him, and you cannot sacrifice your bullpen like that.

Whatever happened to the 2008 Volstad who had a 2.88 ERA in 84 innings?

Obviously I am not suggesting that he should have continued that success, however it is frustrating that he has never since come even close to breaking the 4 ERA barrier.

Get used to seeing him around...he's cheap for a while now.

This. And it's not like we have starting pitching knocking at the door waiting to get in.

The way he's pitched the last 3 years, he's never going to get expensive.

can anyone pinpoint volstad's problems? a good sinker coming from a 6'8" guy should be doing a lot better than what he's shown. it seems like on his "bad" starts he has one inning where he blows up and gives up 4 or 5 runs. is it just mental and inability to make pitches under pressure?

I never really thought his sinker was that good.

this whole 1,2,3,4,5 starter sh*t is so stupid.

you have a guy starting every 5 days and you need the best one out there. obviously you have your ace but after that it doesnt matter what stupid number starter you are.

its like people use the "#5" tag to give him an excuse to accept mediocre pitching.

not meant at you but just saying in general.

better command and better use of his curve and change.

No team really has five good starters.

That's why everyone uses the whole #5 thing.

Even "the greatest rotation ever" has Blanton/Kendrick/Worley filling out the five spot and getting blasted.
