If the Cubs are paying all or at least most of his deal, I see no problem with it. Low risk, potential reward.

I like Iowa's point. Trade Nolasco and free up money to sign Buehrle or Vasquez. We may even get back a good piece that can help our team next season.

Not if your a guy like Zambrano who consistently gets himself into stupid situations. Same goes for Milton Bradley and Nyjer Morgan. Zambrano has a bad start and he tears up clubhouses, blames his own teammates, picks fights with his own teammates, and of course thinks about quitting on his team entirely. He can pitch... and a happy Zambrano wouldn't be the worst guy in our rotation... but he just seems like too loose of a screw for my tastes. I'd consider him a time bomb waiting to explode

At times he'd cramp up during Cubs games and have to come out because he doesn't drink enough fluids. You want to rely on this guy? He abandoned his team. His gotten into fights with teammates, more than once. Really? I'd take Nolasco over this clown any day.

I certainly wouldn't replace Nolasco with Z, but I'll take him in addition to. For cheap, of course.

@Lord Magnus - Technically they don't, but I think it'd be much easier to fill out a rotation via FA with 3 SPs rather than 2. And there is no way Zambrano will be more expensive than Nolasco. I think the fish will be on the hook for a max 3 mil.. while Nolasco is owed 9 mil next year and 11.5 (!) in 2013

I'd make a call to the Yankees about the availability of Brett Gardner. They could use some starting pitching and an upgrade at DH. Nolasco/Gaby for Gardner would save the Fish a lot of money and really give them a lot of flexibility when trying to sign a FA bat.

 

For instance:

..signing Prince (Prince at 1B, Boni at 3B, LoMo in LF, Gardner in CF)

..signing ARam (LoMo at 1B, ARam at 3B, Gardner in LF, Boni in CF)

..signing Reyes (LoMo at 1B, Reyes at SS, Hanley at 3B, Gardner in LF, Boni in CF) - That'd be an interesting one.. lol

The fact is this guy won't get us into the playoffs. Obviously nobody here has watched him play. He's lazy, his delivery sucks, he has ZERO stamina, struggles to get through innings, and he's a cancer in the locker-room. If I were the cubs, I'd cut him.

 

If you want to be a serious contender next year and want a veteran, go after Chris Carpenter, CJ Wilson, etc. sh*t, Sergio Mitre probably has more upside than this nut-job. How can anyone seriously want this guy?

Why do people keep assuming it's an either/or thing. We either trade for Zambrano, or we go for Beurhle, Wilson, et al.

Somebody has to fill those other 2 spots, it is obvious that this board does not want it to be Ricky or Volstad. Zambrano instead of Ricky could be millions of dollars to add to efforts to chase after another notable veteran.

I've watched Zambrano play plenty... he was bad last year overall but had some nice starts mixed in where you could see his ability.

 

FWIW, I probably wouldn't go near him unless Ozzie was our manager.

 

 

I don't see what the big deal is about him if he comes here for next to nothing. If he flips out, cut him. If Ozzie reigns him in and zambrano realizes that his dumbass is playing for a new contract, hooray for us.

Lomo's twitter account could have some epic tweets with Z and Ozzie in the clubhouse.
