Don't know if anyone has mentioned this. I just noticed that on October 29th Rotoworld mentioned that Jason Churchill said the Athletics could trade Gio Gonzalez for offense this offseason and that they may be interested in Gio for LoMo. What would you guys think of that deal?

I would love it. Gio is only 26, a lefty, has had back-to-back 200 inning seasons and is from South Florida. JJ-Gio-Anibal-Nolasco-Vazquez... damn good rotation right there.

I doubt Oakland gives him up for just LoMo.

I would do it. It would be hard to let Logan Morrison go, but it's worth it for Gonzalez.

I'm torn. I love LoMo but Gio has such great promise. They both do actually.

And the kicker is that I'm likely headed to Berkeley for college next year and Oakland would be my new "local" team.

I think this is a no brainer. There are very few players I would trade LoMo for, I think his future is that bright, but Gio Gonzalez is one of those very few. Age, salary, skill, potential, all those factors make this deal very favorable. That's why I doubt it happens...

Shoot, I'd do it. Give us a strong, young lefty in the rotation and a hometown guy.

Why do people still think we're re-signing Vazquez? It's not impossible, but there certainly have not been any indications that we're going to.

Talent-wise, this might be a no-brainer. It seems like Gio is a Super 2, though, at will get expensive fast with those numbers. That might make Oakland more willing to deal him, but it of course makes him less attractive to the Marlins, as well.

There's also the question, who do we sign to replace Morrison?

The top 3 options might be Willingham, Beltran, or Seizmore.

Guys stop trying to trade Morrison ...He isn't going anywhere

Stirring analysis.

f*** LoMo

Don't know if just LoMo would do it. Gio does have one nasty curve though. Man does it bite hard.

Combine this move by signing Prince and now we're talkin.

Curious.. have we made any trades with Oakland before? I can't think of any off the top of my head

That still leaves us with two 1B.

We traded Jason Stokes for John Baker.

If I'm not mistaken, outside of Baker the Marlins have only dealt with Oakland during the Beane era when they traded away Mark Redman.

Other than that you have to go back to the Kurt Abbott (twice) and Walt Weiss days.

Also, based on the posts we've been seeing lately it's pretty obvious that Morrison, Gaby, and Nolasco aren't fan favorites. It seems like people here can't wait for those guys to get out of town.

I doubt that would leave us with two 1B for very long if it were to happen.

I really like LoMo as a player. I think he has a bright future and am not actively looking to move him. But if they could get a guy like Gonzalez and follow it up with a big move on offense, I'm all for it.

I like Gaby but think Prince would be great for the franchise.

Nolasco.. Not a fan. Seeing next years FA pitching class makes me sad that 11.5 mil is guaranteed to him in 2013.

Has Gaby played any position other than first in his career?

I think he played some third at UM and in the minors with less than satisfactory results (apparently he caught a little too). I don't see the Marlins moving him to another position, but then again I never expected Chris Coghlan to be made a centerfielder.

Gaby was arguably the second best defensive first baseman in the National League in 2011.

I don't want to get rid of Morrison personally. We don't have that many great left-handed options and he's starting to show some power. Besides, we'd have to give up more than just him to get Gio.

Get the Cubs to eat Zambrano's contract and you can always move him to Chicago. Granted, Zambrano isn't worth Gaby but its an option.

Hell, if they'd take Nolasco's contract, I'd give him up too. That'd leave the Fish free to hand out another decent FA contract.. or at the very least give Sizemore a nice one year deal.. or at the very very least bank it and use it for next years strong FA class because they'd still be in a good spot with regards to their payroll.

They're at $63 million for next year, given arbitration estimates.

Prince is getting at least $20 million per year.

So if they add Prince, they'll be at $83 million.

What do you think the payroll is going to be? We can't build a winning team by just adding Prince Fielder and Gio Gonzalez.

Which is why it'd be nice to shed Nolasco's contract.

We can't? :)
