C.J. Wilson to Angels

Featured Replies

Oh, snap! I know he's a SoCal guy at heart, knows the AL West and enjoys surfing, but hey, Miami has beaches too. Now the question is how much the offer is.

Over lunch at Joe's Stone Crab and during a visit to their new stadium, the Marlins told left-hander C.J. Wilson that they want him in their starting rotation next year.

To emphasize the point, Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria led the ballpark tour Monday.

"They rolled out the red carpet. They seem to have a plan and made it very clear they'd like CJ to be a part of it,' said Bob Garber, Wilson's agent.

"I think he really impressed everybody today with his charisma. I think he'd be a great fit in South Florida.'

Garber wouldn't comment when asked if the Marlins made an offer to the free agent, but he said Wilson "probably" would make a decision next week during baseball's winter meetings in Dallas.

The Marlins face lots of competition for Wilson, who has been the No. 1 starter for the American League champion Texas Rangers for the past two seasons.

Wilson, a native of Southern California, had dinner with members of the Los Angeles Angels front office last week. Garber also has met with the Washington Nationals and New York Yankees.

Wilson has not ruled out returning to Texas, where he started his career in 2005 as a relief pitcher.

"It may be a deal where he comes back and says, 'I want to be in Texas,' and it makes sense and we're able to work something out, and it may not," Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels told reporters last week in Texas. "C.J. is looking for what the market will bring. He deserves to be well-compensated."

Wilson, 31, is 41-35 in his career with a 3.60 ERA. But he has pitched exclusively as a starter only since 2010, proving to be durable with 67 starts and 427 innings while going a combined 31-15 with a 3.14 ERA.

Garber also represents 34-year-old Roy Oswalt, who was 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA for Philadelphia last season. The Marlins have expressed some interest in Oswalt but have made it clear they prefer Wilson.

First baseman Albert Pujols, shortstop Jose Reyes and left-hander Mark Buehrle visited with the Marlins earlier this month, and all three have received offers. Miami Marlins court free agent left-hander C.J. Wilson

Fake David Sampson is my favorite kind of David Sampson.

Whos Sampson? :D

Well, it seems alot of guys are impressed with stadium and the rollout we have given them. Heres hoping we get someone that we fed.

Whoops. For some reason I thought the fake Twitter had a purposeful misspelling.

That's alright, fake Samson can be whatever you want him to be.

More Bowden on Sirius XM: The #Angels & #Marlins both want C.J. Wilson but not at his price, only team that may step up is Washington

He's going to end up wanting way too much. Stick with Buerhle.

Buerhle has 13 teams going after him. It's a bit more complicated than that.

I'm guessing his price is 6yr/120mil?

I read he's asked the Yankees and Angels for 100mil and the Yanks told him to f*** off

Perhaps, but I think Washington will gladly overpay for Wilson (a la Werth) and keep us out of the running for him. I'd still like to find a way to snag Gio personally.

Those pesky nats! But seriously, regardless of whether we get Reyes or even Pujols/Fielder (extreme longshots), this offseason is going to be a bust if we don't get Wilson and/or Buehrle, a much needed lefty ace. A trade for Gio is seeming more and more likely.
