I kind of get where you going it was fun watching guys like Redmond, Berg and Millar play you knew they would play hard despite knowing there was a better than average chance they were going to lose.
July 27, 201214 yr Been a fan since the beginning. I was 4 years old when the team came into existence in '93. Still have the teal snapback hat from the inaugural season that my dad gave me. Thing is in awful shape and I will probably never wear it in public again, but I love that cap so damn much. I am from Orlando and back in those days of course we didn't have the (Devil) Rays, and like many of you have said already a true fan doesn't just switch over on a whim and root for the "local" team. Being from Orlando I like to consider myself a fan of just whatever team appeals to me, not necessarily the local team (the only local sports team we have are the Magic, and I can't stand them). Marlins fan for life. It is extremely painful at times, just like this year, but I could never root for another baseball team. Ever.
July 27, 201214 yr Wut What im saying is that if we are going to go cheap again, we shouldnt go after "prospects" with "high ceilings" who are just big players. we should go after players that hustle everyday because those types of players deserve major league positions, not "potential" players who some ignorant scout had a crush on and felt could become babe ruth.I hustle. You want me playing over someone with real talent? If you can hit above .230 and you hustle and play good defense (or at least makes effort to play good defense) then yes, i would think you are more qualified than someone else hitting .230 (who someone else says has "potential" to hit .300) but doesnt hustle.
July 27, 201214 yr I was 12 when the Marlins first entered the league. I loved and played baseball so I had been into the game since I was about 5 or so. Before the Marlins I was a Dodgers fan because I grew up in Vero Beach where the Dodgers had spring training every year. When the Marlins came I was so excited. Finally, we Floridians had our own team. They might suck from time to time, but they are still our team. Sports are a civic thing to me. The Marlins, the Dolphins and the Heat are not just franchises to me . They represent my home and it will always be my home. It's my city against your city. There could never be another baseball team for me. Just like no other place could truly be home besides South Florida.
July 27, 201214 yr I'm a fan no matter what. I was proud even when we had Todd Dunwoody in CF and Brian Meadows as our ACE. I loved the Marlins when Chuck Carr ran towards the wall everytime to make a beautiful catch. I've followed this team forever and players won't ever change a thing, this is like a marriage except it's a guys dream way beyond a woman, it's BASEBALL! LOL!
July 28, 201214 yr 22 Now. I Was like 6 or 7 in 97 and I was watching Game 7 of the WS with my parents but then I fell asleep before it ended. Been a fan ever since.

I was 9 and I remember walking in on my mom in her room watching the iconic "Jeff Coinine Relay to Pudge Rodriguez" and the epic collision at home plate where victory was sealed once Pudge stood up and showed the Giant's dugout and the home crowd the ball that he held on and defended with his life. I'll never forget that day, along with Beckett's complete game after he tagged out Posada and Jumped in the air with all of the guys dog piling in the middle of the diamond. One of the happiest moments I've ever had as a child.

Gainesville might be a college town when classes are in session, but when the college crowd leaves, Gainesville is a very backwards place. I could never stand the "dry laws." There were plenty of times on Sundays when I wanted to get a drink, but they have this silly law banning alcohol sales on Sundays. The locals are friendly enough, but most of them have never left the state (and much less the US) and think that the US is the only civilized country in the world, and everyone else is just lucky that the US is here to take care of them.
July 28, 201214 yr Fan since day one, I still have the newspaper announcing MLB's decision to give Miami a team! By luck I was at JRS the day they started the construction to make it baseball usable. Lots of good times through the years, the inaugural season, the 96 season where they almost finished .500 of course the building of the 97 Champions. Sadly the dismantling of that team too, different ownership, but it stung. Probably most proud of the 03 team when they won because I felt so vindicated in my support of the team, friends and acquaintences were also impressed with my ability to stick with the team. Through the years this team has ripped out my heart by trading some of my favorite players, I took Louis Castillo and Cliff Floyd pretty hard, similar feelings this week with Hanley, even if he wasn't the player he had been. I know its not a fire sale, but it kind of feels like one, sadly without the championship that usually goes with it. I will continue rooting for the team, because they are my team! Im most upset about them dumping eric owens. this team from top to bottom besides reyes, big z, ruggiano just aint got that hustle. when we sucked all those years in the late 90s/early 2000s we hustled. everybody hustled. now we got a bunch of self-entitled slow primmadonnas. im not talking hanley, im talking the players that got rid of hanley and they themselves suck as well and dont hustle. wheres the "everyday every game all heart". i remember when we sucked they use to run this commercial with some bummed out fans watching at a bar and its playing "you gotta have hope, you gotta have hope, cuz without hope life is meaningless..." and then they show a walkoff marlins when they had the black sleaves on the pinstripes. the fish tank seats were $2 behind home plate at the very top. when we won we "the marlins are in the WIN COLUMN!!" now we got rich players who aint got no heart or hope. #CUT HEATH BELL Worst post ever? The irony of this post is that Heath Bell actually hustles out of the bullpen like an idiot. At least he used to. I've only been to like one game this year so I don't know if he still does. The problem with this team is that it lacks talent.
