dirtyarcade
No bandwagoners here. Following this team, and proud to call yourself a fan even though we're basically the laughing stock of MLB, and sports media is absolutely brutal to us right now. I currently live in Gainesville, born and raised in Miami. Don't see too many Marlin's fans up here, it's mostly Tampa Bay, and of course the random teams. Saw a guy with a Marlins cap today and asked him if he was a fan, or just wearing the hat for fashion. He then told me he was a diehard since '95, but that Loria made the Marlins too embarrassing to publicly like with all the colors and new age uniform design. Then he told me about how he couldn't follow this team anymore, calling this year the pinnacle of disappointment as a Marlins fan. He then explained how he was going to instead decide to follow the Rays since they were in a more exciting division, were AL, and were just an hour and a half down the road. The point of this thread is.......f***. I know it's just a stupid game, but hearing sh*t like this breaks my heart.

Ha you should have asked him if he will like the Rays when they are playing in San Antonio. Kidding. Its is frustrating, no matter the owner there has always been a general "f*** you" vibe directed from the ownership to the Fanbase. Atleast thats how some fans thin of it. I f***ing despise how the media lumps the owners together, like how they are bashing the team this year for the "firesale" while comparing it to the post 97 firesale like f***ing Loria had something to do with it. I just moved up to gainesville in february and i ALWAYS rock my marlins hat. And everyone tries to hate on it, and say the colors colors are "gay" this, lack of fans that. People are so damn ignorant. W/e dude, i dont really care, most people here in Gainesville are just transient college kids who dont matter anyway lol. The other day I went to applebees with my hat and jersey on to watch the game and we got destroyed by the rays. This dude next to me kept talking crap. I had the last laugh however as he was a cubs fan, and I took our little conversation 9 years into the past lol. But yeah, back on topic, i'm 22 and i started watching them when i was 6 (1996) and i've been through the REAL fire sale in 97, the mini fire sale in 05, and this overdue restructuring. Anyone who knows me will tell you, It is slightly disturbing how much I love this team. And I swear if my g/f tells me its just a stupid game one more time, well I cannot be held accountable for my actions lol (shes saying it right now cause I've got my finger glued to the F5 key on mlbtr.com lol)

Miracle Marlin
I will probably be lurking like I do 90% of the time but to me it's the best feeling when a bottom of the league team rises to greatness. I hope in the future the marlins/dolphins(especially)/Panthers win it all it will feel so good just like recent 2006/2012 heat. And you can add the USMNT soccer as well lol
Henry Jones
Born in '82, been a fan since the team's inception, all the while living mostly in Nebraska. I don't think any bandwagon or foul weather's going to push me in another direction.
CyggyMarlin
Followed baseball since 1980. Was a Phillies fan (by default) until expansion was announced; I had Marlins gear since '92 before the draft
canada-marlin24
Been a die hard since 2000-2001. Though it is tough to be a Marlins fan at a time when we should be excited about where we are nothing will change my love for the team. I am moving to New York later this year and I look forward to pissing on the mets in citi field. And I also look forward to seeing the panthers play the rangers, devils, and isles. All I can ask for is a dedication from the team to spend money wisely and show a continued commitment to winning every year and build the farm properly. Michael
January 2003 was when I got into Baseball, and I knew the Marlins were the closest team to me. So, a Marlins fan I became. I had no idea what a free agent was, I thought Rickey Henderson sucked cause he had 2 homers that season with the Mets, and it's a great way to stay in shape. Twins were an expansion team (the old Senators from DC,) so was a Twins fan by default until I moved to Florida in 1980. Went to a Yankees exhibition game at Robbe in '91 as they were gearing up for the expansion. Followed the Marlins ever since. Never expect more than one WS win every 30 years, or one could wind up emulating a bitter Cubs fan.

Guy might have said he was a diehard but true diehard fans don't do sh*t like that.
Sherman shill
true, i live in Tampa but have always been a Fish fan since the franchise was announced (lol, no, not the showtime event earlier this year). People here who are "Rays" fans always ask me why I'm not a Rays fan and I tell them it's because when I started following baseball it was with the Marlins and I don't change teams, it's a part of my heart. Then I get to hear how stupid it is and they don't understand why I won't be a fan of the local team. REAL FANS DON'T CHANGE TEAMS. It's as simple as that. You live, love, bleed, scream, rejoice, celebrate, and die with your chosen team. If you don't, then you're not a a legitimate fan no matter which way you cut the pie. JackRubysDog
I would love to support a competing team, and this year I thought I had, but ..... Being from the UK I had the choice of all 30, and most baseball fans here pick the Yankees or Red Sox. But in 2007 in my first vacation to the US, I was in the Sports store at Disney Broadwalk, and thought it would be cool to pick up a baseball jersey as a souvenir. Here in the UK it is rare for people now to support their local soccer team (most pick Manchester United or Liverpool) but I always have (Nottingham Forest). So I picked up the jersey with "Marlins" across the front and have been a fan ever since. I've even been to more baseball games in the last five years (okay, only six ) than soccer games. Hey, even my cat's called Emilio! We Brits are loyal, dumbly loyal. Even if the Marlins had a roster of 40+ year olds and ended 0-162, I'd still support them. Heck, I remained loyal to my soccer team when they got demoted to League One (which is like an MLB team having won the WS then twenty years later being kicked out and made an AA team). I'm here for the long haul .

EricWiener
Loria may be a bit of a putz, and his stepson even more so, but this ownership pays the price for Huizinga and Henry and it is not fair. This year's team was not ready. Ramirez was no longer what they thought they had when they signed him long-term, Sanchez was at the end of his contract, Choate was at the end of his contrac, and Infante is unremarkable as an MLB starter. The only "salary dump" was Hanley, and that was more like shedding a bad contract. It is almost as if people want us to be the Mets.

enterthemadness
Am I a true fan if I hardly have time to look at Gameday EVEN if the team was in first place? Yes...it sucks seeing the team lose, but there are things to look forward to.. Ruggs Petersen Stanton coming back. Cishek. Boni ....guess Turner coming up? Oh, and maybe Hayes will go on a homer sp--lol..I'm sorry.
enterthemadness
Oh, I a...some people know my story. Marlins from from like 99-01? Then became Expos fans..why? I dunno...I guess I like underdogs and Canada. After they moved to Washington, it took years off, became a Marlins fan again in 08 I believe...84 win season...didn't team have some tall pitcher Mark H? Who used to play NBA? And we traded him to the O's? I dunno, my memory sucks dawg. All of the seasons of the Marlins and Carolina Panthers blur together to me.
