who wants to join me on the Cubs wagon when the Mets get more from the Jays for this one pitcher than the Marlins did for Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, and Bonifacio combined?

Who wants to keep acting like it's not a MLB team's obligations to spend tens of millions of dollars every year to stay competitive, rather than "saving money" for a future plan that will never happen and/or pan out?

I didn't say I liked (or didn't like) the move from any particular standpoint; but, it's pointless to only compare the outbound talent when there are contracts also at issue.

I dunno if this is a wise move for Toronto. Theyve already got a stacked team and rotation, I dont think Dickey should be worth so much to them. In the AL East, is Dickey/JJ/Buerhle/Romero/Morrow really that much better than JJ/Buerhle/Romero/Morrow/Happ?

And its not just as simple as Dickey > Happ. There's too many factors to consider. I'd keep D'Arnaud over Dickey for a year.

@mystikol. Yes there were some big contracts in play in our deal. But the larger point is that the Marlins ownership could have gotten better talent from Toronto if they'd have been willing to eat more of the contracts.

Loria and Samson are a bunch of cheapskates. They put profits before winning. Period.

Usually teams don't like to pay a good portion of contracts for players to play on other teams.

Paying a lot of money for players to play elsewhere doesn't help a team win. We can't do things like that. If we're paying a lot for Reyes, Johnson, Buehrle, etc to play in Toronto -- our roster will be more depleted in the end.

We could have probably gotten a better return had we split up the trades. I don't really think there was a 'bad contract.' Contracts that teams wouldn't give up anything of value for - yes, but I don't think Reyes or Buehrle had undesirable contracts.

I think they should have gotten more for Josh Johnson. By that, I mean, they should have gotten back at least one player I was actually excited about.

I really wish they had traded him at the deadline as I was hoping they would.

I think they should have gotten back more for Johnson and Reyes. At least get back Syndeegaard. Or Aaron Sanchez.

At least we have Mathis, though. Almost lost him.

Buck is part of the deal to the Mets, that was a quick return to the NL for him.

I will love watching him take at bats for a rival.

I actually liked buck, despite his pitiful performance. This is a stark contrast to bell, the biggest piece of shit ever to wear a marlins uniform

Agreed, personality and attitude have a lot to do with it. How you handle your failures is a big part of who u are.

At least he's gone from the National League. Watching the Marlins fail against this guy time and time again got a little old.

Damn you Dickey! You cold-heartedly crushed Adam Greenberg's dreams! You are the single reason he will never have that coveted 2nd at-bat! Ugh!

the return the mets got for dickey along with tampa's return for shields and davis really highlights how inept the marlins front office is. johnson/buehrle/reyes is a better haul then either of the packages above, yet the mets got not one but two prospects who are better than any prospect the marlins received. embarrassing. for those who want to harp on "but the jays took on more salary blah blah blah", check the going rate for starting pitchers in the league today. look at what anibal sanchez just signed for in detroit; career ERA of 3.75 and he's getting 16 million per. that's what quality starters (not even elite starters, just quality ones) cost these days. buehrle's deal is about what it costs for a sub-4.00 ERA starting pitcher, and johnson is an absolute steal. the only horrible contract was buck, which, ironically, they've already dumped. so let's stop with the "jays took on more money" canard and just admit the marlins got fleeced because the owner's number one priority is shedding salary, not improving the team.
