Posted July 5, 201311 yr Two of three from Atlanta, only second home series ATL has lost this year. :sax
July 5, 201311 yr Is this team for real now? Who knows, but it's a young team with vets so exciting times. 32-52.
July 5, 201311 yr Author We were a season low 28 games under at 16-44 ... We've gone 16-8 since then.
July 5, 201311 yr I was flipping around tonight, but keeping tabs on the game. Saw that great catch by bigMike! Definitely game saving right there.
July 5, 201311 yr The team is playing well against good teams as well. Too bad we had a shitty April and May.
July 5, 201311 yr Obviously Stanton helped tonight, but Cishek got his ERA under 3. There's no way that contending teams don't have a lot of interest in a reliever like Cishek. All things considered, he would be the best reliever on the market if the Marlins decided to listen to offers. I wouldn't be sad if he were still here after the trade deadline because I think he's good, but we could get a very good return for him right now.
July 5, 201311 yr Morrison on base 4 times, including 3 walks. Good stuff.  Small sample size be damned, he's been fantastic since coming back. He's been playing like we've always hoped. Really hope he can keep it up.
July 5, 201311 yr Morrison on base 4 times, including 3 walks. Good stuff.  He's a bit shaky at 1B, but he looks really good at the plate. He's cut down on his strikeouts, as well. 13.4 BB%/13.4 K%.
July 5, 201311 yr People were bashing me when I said Morrison would be putting up Votto type numbers with his new stance:Â LoMo: .328 AVG | .418 OBP | .569 SLG | 13.4 BB% | 13.4 K% Votto: .323 AVG | .432 OBP | .511 SLG | 15.6 BB% | 19.3 K%Â Granted it is a small sample size, but LoMo was always known for good patience. I think a tweak in his stance was just what he needed to raise his BB% whilst lowering his K%.

July 5, 201311 yr It was a great series win for the youngsters to go into Atlanta (a 1st place team) and compete with them in all 3 games. Even in the 1st game, the Marlins were 3-3 with them in the 6th before it went to sh*t. A good experience for them to not be intimidated and know that they can win. Not going to get carried away, but its a good thing in our hopeful development of a winning culture. And, yeah, small sample size on LoMo, but he does look great so far and we're all hopeful this is the real deal for him.
July 5, 201311 yr I missed most of the game, but how did Alvarez look after the 1st?  He looked very good after the 1st (but it was literally batting practice in the 1st)

I wouldn't be sad if he were still here after the trade deadline because I think he's good, but we could get a very good return for him right now.   We know what a good relationship Beinfest and Dombrowski have. And we know the Tigers are willing to ship top prospects if it means winning now. If they want to move Castellanos, I am all in on moving Cishek. I think anything short of that return doesn't make sense to move him.
July 5, 201311 yr Arizona (their bullpen sucks) and Boston (Uehara durability issues/Cishek's hometown and favorite team) are a couple more contending teams having issues in the closer role. Even teams that could use him as a setup guy (that would basically mean that just about every team would have interest) would give up a prospect of interest in return. Good setup guys have brought back lots of quality over the years at the trade deadline.

I think one way or the other we're going to be happy. Keep him, great. Trade him, the return is going to be fantastic.

July 5, 201311 yr How bout Cishek for Skaggs straight up? D backs might do it... We did get Penny for the Ice man years ago.
