I think people are setting themselves up for some major heartbreak.

And certain people are negative, lack faith, and are Debbie downers.

Guys, you aren't allowed to enjoy baseball ever. You should never be excited that your team is winning, even if for a short while.

You should only ever think about how they will most assuredly crumble and fail.

I find your abundance of faith disturbing.

And I find it refreshing!

First place, all by our lonesome. And some people said not to start this thread... LOL at them

I will be quoting this post again later in the season.

Please, feel free. Regardless of where we finish, as many have noted, we should enjoy this team right now.

"The Straw Man fallacy is committed when a person simply ignores a person's actual position and substitutes a distorted, exaggerated or misrepresented version of that position. This sort of "reasoning" has the following pattern:

  • Person A has position X.
  • Person B presents position Y (which is a distorted version of X).
  • Person B attacks position Y.
  • Therefore X is false/incorrect/flawed.

This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because attacking a distorted version of a position simply does not constitute an attack on the position itself. One might as well expect an attack on a poor drawing of a person to hurt the person.

Examples of Straw Man

  • Prof. Jones: "The university just cut our yearly budget by $10,000."
Prof. Smith: "What are we going to do?"
Prof. Brown: "I think we should eliminate one of the teaching assistant positions. That would take care of it."
Prof. Jones: "We could reduce our scheduled raises instead."
Prof. Brown: " I can't understand why you want to bleed us dry like that, Jones

I personally am enjoying watching Giancarlo mash and the good things the team is doing. I also understand that it'a reasonable to expect it to not last. It doesn't have to be either/or. There is a reasonable middle ground a reasonable person might find appropriate.

Being a "FAN" means cheering for your team to win and improve. It's seems to me that you are rooting for them to fail just to prove you are right.

He seperates reality based on objective projections from emotions. He wants whats best for the team but he isn't dishonest or disingenous about where they stand. I don't know why that's been difficult to grasp by this crowd who resists common sense.

So if the Marlins win the division we have no common sense? And... what about you?

The point of this nonsense is?

The only "reality" is that today we are in first place. That is the here and now. After that it's anyone's guess where the fish will finish this season. Why is that so hard for you and your straw man to grasp? As far as Squall's post, there's nothing positive about it. To suggest he wants what is best for this team is what's disingenuous. He and others like him only want what's best for this team if it fits with their perception of the team.

Never thought being in first place would cause such an issue. f***.

That's MarlinsBaseball.com for ya! :p

Half of these forums are going to stop liking the Marlins once this team gets good.

And the other half are going to die of heartbreak on the bumpy road to getting good.

So once they get good, there will be no fans left?

So once they get good, there will be no fans left?

And such is the struggle of Jeffrey Harold Loria.

From what I can see is that there are posters on here that are either:

A) Overreacting to the start we've had so far, thinking that we are playoff-bound today

B) Anticipating the eventual free-fall with discouraging degree of negativity

or

C) People who aren't saying anything because this is stupid.

So if the Marlins win the division we have no common sense? And... what about you?

I don't get what you're doing.

It's 'anyone's guess,' but reasonable projections based on past performance suggest it's improbable. You aren't really addressing my point. I doubt anyone here doesn't want Miami to win.
