SilverBullet
I actually think this is the start of pampering up Stanton to stick around. Remember Stanton was tired of losing as well as inconsistencies with both his teammates and coaches/managers. Next Yelich please. Then we target the big guy. Admin
I think this was slightly premature. He still makes some really off the wall decisions.

dim
Good move. His in game decision making got better as the season went on and the players seem to like him a lot. He also has shown that passion when crap happens that you want to see from managers (a fire that Fredi never ever ever showed). Given his history with the Marlins, his player friendly demeanor, and the improvements he showed as the season went along, this is definitely a solid move. Have to show some stability at the manager position and Redmond feels like the right guy to do that with.
dim
All I want from a manager is for the players to rally around the guy, be a good teacher for the younger guys, and for him not to completely F up in game decisions. We saw the team rally around Redmond after the Rule 7.13 game. Season could've fallen apart then but Redmond kept the team chugging along. Never got that big push towards the playoffs but we never fell out of the race until very late in the season. He and the coaching staff have proven to be very good teachers for the younger guys, as we've seen big improvements this year from Yelich, Ozuna, Alvarez, Hand, Cosart, hell even Hechavarria. Redmond got to choose his staff and it seems like he has put the right guys around the team to succeed. I feel like Ozuna was the biggest example of what the coaching staff can do with our players. He became a totally different hitter when he came to the majors last year. He improved his contact ability and became a more well rounded hitter. This year they worked on bringing back that power stroke without sacrificing the improvements in his contact, and he's had a very successful season. Overall this team is moving in the right direction. Obviously this season wasn't a massive success because we're under .500, but the season never really imploded until Stanton left. It's amazing this team is over 70 wins with Fernandez gone most of the year. Going into next year the biggest improvement needs to be a 1B and maybe 2B and a SP, but I like the outlook of the team. Redmond is doing good work despite how much everybody on this board seems to hate him because managers are easy targets to hate.

fanofthefish
Lock up Yelich and Ozuna too, maybe that will convince Stanton to stick around for a while
JackRubysDog
What dim said. Not that bothered about Redmond but I REALLY want to keep the rest of the coaches.
pollythewog
Questionable decisions absolutely, but I love him as a manager. He's got that fire.

canada-marlin24
So long as the players are for him then thats all that matters. And that he gets the best out of them.
SilverBullet
Also I didn't realize he only had 2015 left on his original deal. Now knowing that it was definitely smart to extend him before next season. And doing it at the very end of 2014 shows a positive reaction to the year, as if the extension is a reward for this season as opposed to something like doing it as a formality just before spring training next year or so . Also, very pleased to see the coaching staff returning. This has to be the best overall coaching staff beyond the manager that we've had here in seemingly ages. Piazza31
With his contract on the last year, it was a good thing to not even have to contemplate a lame duck season for him as stability is one thing this franchise has lacked at the manager position. Have we ever had a manager for four years straight? I think Freddi got the most time at three years. Lacheman, boles, Leyland, boles, torborg, Mckeon, Girardi, Gonzalez, rodriguez, Guillen. Am I missing any other full time managers?

Piazza31
Looks to be right - Marlins went 54-60 that year under his command. Full time. McKeon made a comeback roo- and I'm sure we've had a few managers for a day because of suspensions as well.
SilverBullet
I'd argue a case for Perez being full time even though he was labeled an interim. He was there in 2001 about as long as Edwin was in 2010 when he took over for Fredi. I know Edwin did go into 2011 as the manager too but I think Tonys got a case.
