Stanton Rumors

  • Gammons believes the Marlins can’t trade Giancarlo Stanton before his contract expires at the end of the 2016 season. “If they do, owner Jeffrey Loria’s credibility will take such a further hit that he may have to sell for the Marlins to ever be accepted,” Gammons writes. I’m not necessarily sure this would be the case — if Stanton makes it clear he won’t sign an extension with the club, Miami fans obviously wouldn’t be happy, but they’d understand that a trade would be a logical move for the Marlins to get a big return.

I think I've heard "Loria's credibility will take such a further hit that he may have to sell" enough times to know that it means nothing.

So has the line "Loria's credibility will take such a further hit than he may have to sell" taken such a further hit to it's credibility?

If we can't sign him, we have to trade him. As much as it sucks to know that this is all the FO's fault, there is no way you let him play out his contract and walk. That would be an absolutely stupid baseball move.

Uh oh...that means that's exactly what's going to happen, isn't it?

Well in the Marlins defense, they're probably way closer to credibility now than they've been in years, not including the false credibility we had just prior to the 2012 season when we thought we had a dream team.

I'm just saying, if 2015 is another improvement and Stanton is still around, I'd say we''re pretty credible again. Enough people both in and out of baseball took notice of our 2014 for this to be the case .

Dont know what the Marlins will or wont do.

I dont, however, understand why so many people are clamoring to sign Pablo Sandoval and even more perplexed that some seem to seem willing to make it a "whatever the cost" type situation.

Well, I understand the interest in Panda. He's exactly what we need. I do agree that it's not a situation where we should overpay, he does bring some risk, but at the right price it should be done.

With that said, if they over pay for him, I'd be fine with that as long as they sign Stanton. I've come to learn that when this organization is willing to spend, we should just enjoy it and not analyze it too much...
