December 11, 201411 yr Good Dee was his 2014, Bad Dee is the rest of his career. During the season he's known as Sucking Dee.
December 11, 201411 yr Anyone projectecting Kiké or Dietrich to have a higher WAR than Gordon is nuts and loses all credibility.
December 11, 201411 yr I haven't heard a single baseball person of note who thinks the Marlins didn't get fleeced here. Pfft... Frisaro!
December 11, 201411 yr Author Anyone projectecting Kiké or Dietrich to have a higher WAR than Gordon is nuts and loses all credibility. If they're all given equal playing time (which they won't) Gordon would be third in WAR amongst those three.
December 11, 201411 yr I always thought the fascination with fast guys who cant hit and batting them leadoff based on speed alone was a Admin Beinfest thing. The more time goes on, it seems to be an organizational creed. Dee Gordon is fast, yes. He also shouldn't hit any higher than 7th.
December 11, 201411 yr His bigger problem is that he doesn't get on base. Just because he hit .289 last year is pretty irrelevant when he doesn't hit much beyond singles, and strikes out a lot. As already mentioned his second half was bad and he only walked 5 times. Ideally if you are giving up this much for a guy who is a middle infielder (and who I assume they want leading off), you want someone who will get on base. For sure, I agree with all that. His OBP is his most troubling stat. Im just trying to make his line look better in my mind.
December 11, 201411 yr Did we just trade a number 3 starter(Heaney's floor) a omar infante type utility player ( Kike's floor) a solid reliever (Hatcher) and a bench player(barnes' floor) for a 1-2 war second baseman(Dee's floor) and a pitcher who will retire?

December 11, 201411 yr Jeez, guys, calm down. You're all acting like we traded our top pitching prospect and a couple other decent players for a speedy no-power second baseman. (secret serviceman whispers into my ear) ....... oh.
December 11, 201411 yr For those that didn't read the article, here is what Fangraphs had Gordon, Kike, Dietrich, and Solano to do next year if given equal Abs... Derek Dietrich: 1.6 Enrique Hernandez: 1.1 Dee Gordon: 1.1 Donovan Solano: 0.4

December 11, 201411 yr It would be cooler if his name was Gee Dordon. Also, just for fun, we should assign WARs to posters here.

December 11, 201411 yr this trade is worse on paper than the cabrera trade. The marlins FO are a bunch of fucking idiots. This is an outright disaster.
December 11, 201411 yr The 26-year-old Gordon hit .289/.326/.378 (101 OPS+) while leading baseball in both triples (12) and stolen bases (64) in 2014, his first full season as a big leaguer. He did struggle in the second half (88 OPS+) but his speed is well suited for spacious Marlins Park. Those big gaps will lead to lots of triples. Andrew Heaney is one of the best pitching prospects in the game, though, like many top pitching prospects before him, he struggled in his MLB debut this past season, posting a 5.83 ERA (66 ERA+) in 29 1/3 innings. Hernandez is an up-and-down depth player, Hatcher a nice middle reliever, and Barnes a soon-to-be 25-year-old Double-A catcher/infielder prospect. Miami's second basemen hit a combined .236/.303/.334 (86 OPS+) in 2014 and entire the team combined to steal 58 bases. Gordon's production can take a step back in 2015 and he's still a pretty significant upgrade, especially in the speed department. The Marlins gave up a quality pitching prospect in Heaney and a lot of other stuff, roster filler stuff that won't make or break the deal. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24879384/marlins-make-odd-trade-to-get-dee-gordon-and-possibly-retiring-dan-haren CBS much softer on the trade, pointing out that we aren't giving up nearly as much as you guys think.

December 11, 201411 yr wow I just saw all 6 players involved. Fuck this stupid as fuck FO. I'm becoming a dodgers fan.
December 11, 201411 yr What's mine? You're in Stanton WAR levels, my friend. I'd offer you 10/200 and pray you accept.

Derek Dietrich: 1.6 Enrique Hernandez: 1.1 Dee Gordon: 1.1 Donovan Solano: 0.4 That's a garbage projection. Gordon was a 3.2 WAR player last season.
December 11, 201411 yr That's a garbage projection. Gordon was a 3.2 WAR player last season. Dee Gordon fucking sucks. Stolen bases are almost as overrated as saves
December 11, 201411 yr Not really true. The article is pretty slanted by ignoring that Solano and Valdespin got the bulk of the playing time at 2B and the Dietrich and Hernandez both are projected to be better than Dee Gordon.
December 11, 201411 yr Just yesterday you all were bitching about our 2B being Solano, Hernandez or Dietrich. Now it won't be. Celebrate
