December 11, 201411 yr I'd be less pissed if it were just Heaney for Gordon. I don't like that deal either but it's less embarrassing.
December 11, 201411 yr Did Hill give Andrew Friedman a Blowjob in the trade as well, or did he only just let himself get raped ?
December 11, 201411 yr That's BS. Hernandez was set to be our starting 2B and he's actually pretty useful outside his so so first stint with the Marlins. When not accounting for stolen bases he could definitely surpass Gordon in total WAR and other statistics next season. Barnes is an undervalued player in our system and should probably be in AAA and possibly even the majors already. At the very least he's a very useful utility guy. Hatcher was one of the keys of our bullpen last season surprisingly and we know that it can be damn hard to find a consistent bullpen guy at times. We gave up value. Not A+ value outside of Heaney but solid B value with each player having a future in the majors next year. Even if Haren plays next year that's a lot of money to pay for a pitcher like him, and if he retires like he said he would it is just embarrassing for the team. Gordon is a decent addition, but this is the kind of thing that I was afraid of happening. The Marlins buying high on other teams players and selling low on their own players. They also need to learn to stop dealing with good GM's like Dombrowski and Friedman. If they're willing to take a deal from us it probably means we're getting f*cked in the butt. Just because Kike was set to be our starting 2B doesn't say a whole lot about his value. Our IF last year (and heading into next season) was beyond awful
December 11, 201411 yr This is all of course everyone assuming that we're done after this trade. We don't know. Really Heaney is the only real piece we gave up, and its not a small piece either. I disagree that Heaney is the only piece we gave up.
December 11, 201411 yr I don't think it's THAT terrible of a trade. *ducks* I don't either, but that's based on the contingency that more moves are coming.
December 11, 201411 yr Ok now let's assume Haren does pitch for us next year. What, if anything, does he do for our rotation?
December 11, 201411 yr I disagree that Heaney is the only piece we gave up. When I say only real piece, I mean only real "A" piece. Kike, Hatcher, Barnes are not "A" pieces.
December 11, 201411 yr Ok now let's assume Haren does pitch for us next year. What, if anything, does he do for our rotation? Eats innings until Jose is ready
December 11, 201411 yr Kike would've been a great utility player. He's already a better hitter than Dee. Not a better overall player, but a better hitter.
December 11, 201411 yr When I say only real piece, I mean only real "A" piece. Kike, Hatcher, Barnes are not "A" pieces. They're still big league caliber players. We just gave them away for nothing.
December 11, 201411 yr Frisario says its Gordon & Haren and 1 minor leaguer for Heaney, Hatcher, Barnes, Hernandez. I mean was Gordon for Heaney not enough?? Jesus. The frustrating thing is this exactly. It feels a little lopsided with just a 1 for 1 trade of Heaney for Gordon. I think we all would've accepted this trade since we've pretty much accepted the Marlins view Heaney less than they did in June and probably helped to kill his trade value through talks. We all would've liked Gordon and thought Heaney was a bit high but we were fine since it would've fit a big need and helped form the lineup. But we gave up Hernandez, which basically would've been Gordon's insurance plan and an insurance plan for a few positions since he's versatile (and a decent hitter too). Barnes was probably a year away from the majors but he's a pretty good hitter every step of the minors and the Marlins never seemed to view him properly (as an example he posted a .900+ OPS in a short time in Jacksonville after getting called up...only to be sent back down to Jupiter for doing so soon after.) And Hatcher we all know about given last season. It's frustrating since it feels like a desperation trade where Hill/Jennings felt like they HAD to leave the meetings with something and Friedman was toying with them that idea, and finally it feels like they caved. It doesn't feel like we got even close to the best offer we possibly could have. And we also traded a lot of useful players. #1 overall prospect, our starting 2B to end last year, our 7th inning guy last season, and a potential good utility guy and another potential starting 2B/backup catcher in 2016. You don't replace that kind of ability with Dee Gordon and whatever minor leaguer we get on the side (and maybe Dan Haren, but who the hell knows what's going on with that).
December 11, 201411 yr How is Gordon on defense? I don't really know how to read all the defensive metrics. I just know from what I see and hear and I haven't seen or heard much about his D.
December 11, 201411 yr Put it this way, if Gordon was a good defender, the Dodgers wouldn't be trading him.
December 11, 201411 yr Wow. What a complete disaster. You trade your best pitching prospect (who would have probably slotted into the rotation in 2015) for a guy who hit an empty .289? Not only that, but you're then trading for a guy making $10+ mil who is on the verge of retirement and could just decide not to play at all and retire without the Marlins receiving anything in return? Even better, you add extra prospects and a decent utility player on top of that? Unbelievable. This FO deserves to get shredded.
December 11, 201411 yr Joe Frisaro @JoeFrisaro Haren has said publicly he might retire. That issue is something #Marlins are still working through. #Dodgers So technically trade is still not official. I wonder if Haren balks, some pieces are pulled back.
December 11, 201411 yr I hate this trade. I really do. Just giving up quality players and prospects for Dee Frigging Gordon.
December 11, 201411 yr Ok now let's assume Haren does pitch for us next year. What, if anything, does he do for our rotation? Haren doesn't do shit for the rotation he will probably hit the DL 2 days into Training Camp...we don't have to worry because he is retiring
December 11, 201411 yr Wait. So we get a young in control all star 2B and a Number 3 starter for prospects? Yea I'll take it. Now just need a 1B.
December 11, 201411 yr Just had a thought, and I know this is somewhat offtopic but the lack of solid drafting in the 1st round from 2002 to 2010 has set this franchise back in a similar way it did the Florida Panthers with their terrible drafts in the same era. That's really depressing.
December 11, 201411 yr Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS as of 445 pt, haren hasnt been told of trade agreement sending him to marlins. he's said he'll retire if not on LAD/LAA
December 11, 201411 yr What is going on with the front office? What is the thinking here? You can't seriously give up this many pieces to *hope* you get slightly better at one position. And even that point is arguable. You guys think Casey McGehee reverted to form in the 2nd half? Gordon's 2nd half 284 .300 .348 .648 Just really disappointing. Hopefully there's some other moves to come that lessen the blow here.
